Sacrilege were a melodic death band from Gothenburg, formed in 1993 and disbanded shortly after the release of their second album.

Most notable for their member, Daniel Svensson, better known as the drummer for In Flames post-Whoracle. Don't be fooled by the relation with In Flames and the Gothenburg scene: Sacrilege can legitimately be called melodic DEATH. Sound is reminiscent of pre-Gallery Dark Tranquillity, Eucharist, or another IF side prpject, Dimension Zero. Melodic leads are certainly prominent, but they never hijack the songs and turn into pseudo-NWOBHM. Svensson also handles the vocals, and does a fairly admirable job of it. He reminds me of Henke Forss (of Dawn) more than anything else.

Either of their two albums are fine--they're quite similar. The production on "The Fifth Season" seems a tiny bit cleaner.

Note: The band was reformed in 2006 as Sacrilege GBG, so new material is mixed with stuff from the old albums on here.
