To be clear, I'm talking about the early Germanic language, not Victorian poetry xp
I just got the books I ordered on Amazon, and I shall now attempt to learn the language. I've been interested in Old English since some discussion in a college linguistics class I took a couple years ago. Since I find myself with a great deal of free time these days, I figured now would be a good time to learn it. One of my books also discusses Gothic, Old High German, Old Norse, Old Frisian, Old Saxon, and Old Low Franconian (all related variations of the huge Proto-Germanic linguistic mass).
We'll see how it goes, but I'm excited to dive in and learn some useless cool stuff. mrgreen

Well, best of luck. I remember reading Beowulf in its original Old English. Even with massive amounts of footnotes provided in the book, it was a chore-and-a-half to get through. Even Middle English is tedious for those not familiar with it.

Have fun with your book! Less so than Old English. At least you see Latin everywhere. Scientific names of things, quotes or mottos on money and monuments around Europe and the U.S, movies/books/video games/metal bands that try to be cool by using a dark-and-mysterious-sounding language, lots of stuff. Before now, I hadn't even known about the existence of a distinct language called Old English, just that English is completely different from what it used to be.

Now that's what I call useless... I love it xd
