Lyric let out a long breath. The sky was growing dark and the moon was rising, shedding a soft glow around its edges. The Bae let his eyes shut, feeling the cool air fill his lungs. For a moment, for one short moment, he felt at peace. Stepping forward, he raised his head toward the sky, noting the one star that was shining.
Lovely, so lovely was the day. All to, all to break away. What I see is such a lovely stray. The first sign that day is fading 'way.
Beautiful star in the heaven's sky. What I see that holds the bearer's eye. Sweetly we sing all to thee. To the moon and far beyond to see.

Duchess had been wandering through the lush grasses of the D'ob Valley, picking at a few stalks here and there, slowly making her way towards her favorite pond. Upon reaching the edges of this stand-still water, the gray Bae dipped her head down to take a drink of the cooling water. A few minutes passed as the thirsty Bae gulped down more and more water, then one of her ears perked and turned forward. She had heard something, but had she imagined it, or was it really there? A moment passes and she decided she hadn't imagined it; it was still there.
Duchess lifted her head back up, licking her lips of the remaining water droplets and began to walk once more. Her ears were trained forward on the sound and her eyes were searching. Such a beautiful sound she had never heard before, at least, not to her immediate memory. It pulled her in and guided her forward until she reached the plateau where there stood another Bae. This, she was not expecting.
Duchess silently walked toward the stranger who was apparently the owner of such beautiful tones. He was tan with white patches with grey wings, but from where she was, she couldn't see his face. Not wanting to interrupt the song, Duchess stopped a good distance behind the male and listened. And as she listened, her head tilted to the side and her eyes drifted up to the moon that this male was singing to, until she too, closed her eyes and let the cool air fill her lungs.

Lyric continued to sing, pouring out his heart when he suddenly stopped after spotting the female. He instantly trembled, his mouth wide open for good long moment as he stared with a dumbfounded expression. How long had she been there? He slowly shut his mouth, swallowing slightly when he got up the nerve, "Uhhh... H-H-Hello Missss." He stated. A part of him had to wonder why he was so nervous all the sudden when he had sung around many Nequus before. What was different this time? Was it perhaps because before him was a very beautiful Bae... a bae! One of his own species...

Such beautiful words and notes calmed Duchess, and made her breathe big, slow breaths of cool night air, but then the music came to a sudden stop. Her eyes snapped open and her head tilted back down to look to where she had last seen the male. There he was, facing her this time. She couldn't hold back a smile when she looked into this Bae's handsome face as he stammered a greeting.
Duchess didn't think twice. She trotted upto the male with a warm smile playing across her lips as she returned his greeting, "Hello! But... why did you stop? Music that pretty shouldn't stop! Not when it can paint such beautiful pictures in my mind..." As she mentioned these pictures, she tilted her head back up to the sky, reared up and began to turn in a tight pirouette.

"W-Well... but... I-I..." He stuttered, shaking his head back and forth as his cheeks flushed a deep color. His mind went suddenly blank, unable to think of anything else to sing. The female was pretty, and it made him uncomfortable thinking about the whole thing. "W-Whattt... issss your n-na-name?" He tried changing the subject. Maybe he could sing more after a moment, but that would be a little while, after he could think up something in his head. Could he think up anything while she was standing in front of him?
He smiled slightly, his head turning back up toward the sky to that one star, "Did-did you reaaallly... think it-it was p-pretty?" He asked. He felt his cheeks turn brighter but his eyes were away from her. Perhaps if he kept his eyes off of her he wouldn't be so nervous?

Duchess finished her pirouette and softly guided her front hooves back to the ground. Her eyes made her way back to the male's face as he continued to stammer. Her smile broadened when his cheeks turned red, but she waited patiently for him to finish speaking before she introduced herself. "My name is Duchess," she started, with a little bow of the head and a bend of the knee. She straightened back up and looked this Bae over, almost having to giggle at his nervousness. Why should such a lovely voice stumble over words when they weren't musically inflected?
"Of course! It was beautiful. Those words and that voice together paints pictures of unbelievable majesty. But..." She tilted her head to the side, hair sliding into one of her eyes in the process. "You didn't tell me your name. You have a name, don't you?"

Name? Had he forgotten? What a dolt! He had been too busy focusing on the mare that he had completely forgotten. He felt like an idiot. "M-my n-ame is L-Lyricc, Missss Duchesss." Giving a brief smile, he tried his best to look confident but he knew that he hadn't come across that way. How could a stuttering Bae ever look confident? It was enough to make him muse.
Shutting his eyes, he took a deep breath,
How beautiful be the one, The one with such a wondrous gaze. Her eyes like the ocean. Her voice as beautiful as the breeze...

A thoughtful look came into Duchess' eye when he told her his name. It seemed to fit so right! She giggled softly at the thought that his name even reflected his singing. But that giggle was quickly stifled when he closed his eyes and began to sing once more.
Duchess stood there, swaying a little from side to side as he sang such beautiful words. She was not yet aware that the song was about her, but even so, she felt drawn to this Bae, and she took one step closer. And then another, and another. By the end of that verse, she was standing mere inches away, and had caught on to the song's subject. She whispered softly, "Go on, Lyric," hoping to encourage him to keep singing. She had never had anyone sing to her before! This was wonderful!

Lyric smiled and felt his cheeks grow rather warm. The female's attention had been more attention than he had received in a rather long time. Closing his eyes,
To her a many may sing Just to catch a sight of her serenity. Her wings the color of a day lit sky. How I would love to catch her eye.
He continued to hum, his eyes closed so he could concentrate on the song. For once his confidence seemed to shine through, which was a rather rare sight for him. For some reason he felt at home, right here, right now. Singing and luring this Bae to his song. His song, a peace of his soul and his heaven.

Mesmerized, the mare took another step closer, her muzzle having found it's way to Lyric's neck. Eyes still closed, another step, until her neck was wrapped around his so that her muzzle rested on his upper back. From there, even the dappled mare began to hum, not as melodic and charismatic as the stallion's voice, but a hum of similar tune, none-the-less.
Duchess felt very at peace with this stallion, calm and secure. It was the same sort of feeling that she remembered as a foal, nuzzling something large and warm, loving even. She felt like a foal now, nuzzled up against a figure that sang to her softly and with passion. She could stand here for hours listening to that voice... "Oh!" She pulled back and took a few steps back, looking a little bashful. "S-s-sorry..." she shuffled her hooves and began pacing back and forth, silently, not sure if she should explain herself or not, but hoping she had not pushed the stallion away. But his words had just pulled her in, and without thinking about it, she had found herself nuzzling him!

Having the feeling of the other Bae this close to him made Lyric's own cheeks flush. He smiled, letting his eyes shut as he pulled his own neck closer to hers, enjoying every moment of her attention. It had been so long since anyone had shown him affection, it had been since his mother died when he was a foal.
After she pulled away, his eyes flipped open almost immediately. He regarded the female carefully, watching her pace. At her apology he found his cheeks growing warmer, "It-its finnne Milady." He stated, his eyes upon her with a smile on his face. "Hon-est-ly I enjoyed it." Swallowing, he was only faintly aware that he had hardly stuttered with that statement. Taking a few steps toward her, his eyes met hers and for a moment he felt as if in a trance, "You... you r-really are... quite-quite beaut-iful."

She paced back and forth, thoughts milling about inside of her head making her dizzy. She never had this much of an attention span! How long had she spent out here with this stallion already? Listening to his words and his song under the beautiful starry night sky? Well... he was really sweet... but she didn't know him! But he sang to her, and beautifully! But she had nuzzled him! Nuzzled! Her thoughts broke off when Lyric spoke.
Her eyes snapped up to his and her pacing stopped so that she could just focus on what he had to say. Her worried expression faded into a soft one, when he spoke. Her eyes never broke contact, but she began digging slowly with her left foreleg like foals do when they don't know what to say but feel obliged to say something.
As he strode closer, Duchess stood still once more, not sure of what to do, but then his words melted her heart. No one had ever called her beautiful before! And by a Bae! At least... not that she remembered. But she knew that this moment would stay in her mind forever.
Duchess wanted to say something, but nothing came to mind, so instead she took a few steps toward Lyric, conquering the space between them so that she could bow her head just the slightest bit until her forehead & forelock were touching his.

Blushing profusely, Lyric smiled and let himself enjoy her company for a bit longer until his head raised to notice how late it had become, "Mi-ladddy..." He began rather carefully, he didn't want her to think he was trying to get rid of her, this had been the most adventurous thing he had done in quite a while after all! "It issss... becoming ra-rather lattte... Perhaps, we should p-p-part our separate wayssss... and meet again? Ifff you w-w-w-w-would... I would love to seeeeee you again." If he were a cat he'd surely be purring at this point. She really was the most beautiful Bae he had seen in a rather long time, but sadly he was also getting rather sleepy the longer the night wore on.

A smile played across the female's lips too, but her eyes remained shut. This was the calmest she had been in a very long time. Usually, her body would be a constant rush of movements, trotting here, sniffing at that, chasing those, but not right then. Right then, she felt completely content just standing there, close to this near-stranger that she felt very strong feelings for. She hardly knew him, and yet she knew that she would have to see him again.
She didn't interrupt when he spoke, merely enjoyed the last moments of this night's magic before pulling back from Lyric, and nodding, just once as her eyes opened to look into his during her goodbye.
"You are right, Lyric, it is late and I should be going too. The night is dark, and sleep is calling me clearly now." With one last soft smile, she turned around and began to walk back towards the way she had come, back towards that grassy lump next to the old oak trees that she called home. But as she strode away, she looked over her shoulder for one last glimpse of this mysterious singing Bae and said, "I will see you again, Lyric. We will meet once more, soon." And with that, she brought her pace up to a trot, as she made her way home with a newly heavy heart and a mind full of confusing and new thoughts.
