I need a good name for my mad scientist character. Originally, I named her Dr. Josephine Doosleberg, but I found out that on the cartoon show Phineas and Ferb, there's a character named Dr. Doofenshmirtz. The two names are too similar for my tatse, so now I need to think of a new surname for my character. I was thinking of making her surname Nachash, which is the Hebrew word for snake (because I'm Jewish and I also like snakes), but I tried Googleing it and the first few things I found were related to the biblical story in the garden of Eden. I don't want people thinking of biblical stories EVERY time they hear my character's name, so I would like it if you could give some feedback as to what you think.

She is female, yes? I would suggest something German. Those crazy Germans, always coming up with silly names i.e. the Untersee Boot, Literal translation: Undersea Boat. Lol.

Shalom, sister!
Why not go for something Yiddish, then? It's a mix of both Hebrew and German, so you can't go wrong when coming up with a name for a mad scientist!

I'm thinking of using "Dr. Josephine Yashcherke" as my character's name now. Yashcherke is the romanization of the Yiddish word for lizard. (The Yiddish word for snake was shlang, and I am NOT going to be Dr. Shlang. rofl ) So, I'm wondering what everyone else thinks of using Yashcherke as my character's surname.

Behind the Name has a surname section. You can look for ideas there and it'll give you some history as well. Surnames

I'll have you know, I was going to suggest that link. But then I saw I was too late. But yeah, that is a good place to try out. I tried it twice, and didn't particularly care to use the names it gave me, so I'm saving the names for later, because I know I could use them. So, tell us how it goes if you use the generator!

I played around with the name generator at Brass Goggles, and decided that I liked the name Gertrude Latimer. Thanks for your help, everybody! smile
