Perfect Pitch
It was officially the tenth weekly singing test that Conan had to do. Akiba had pushing him really hard,so he really hoped he'd do well this time. He was singing “Amazing Grace” for this test,which was one of his favorite songs.
Now that the test was only twenty minutes away, he decided to look back on some of his lessons.
Flashback
It was his first singing lesson. Nervously,he sang a little bit for Akiba. She just sighed and shook her head. Akeba knew right away it was the right time to talk to him about applying his perfect pitch.
“Conan-kun,” she began, “We should probably begin with applying perfect pitch. We'll sing a nursery rhyme together and see if you can tell the difference.”
As they sang,Conan listened very closely. His own wobbly voice was nothing compared to Akeba's strong,beautiful voice. He never really listened to himself sing, or anyone sing for that matter.
When they finished the rhyme,Akiba asked, “What'd you notice, Conan-kun”
“I noticed that when I sing, I'm not confident. You, on the other hand, are very confident in your singing and you're abilities,” replied Conan.
“Very impressive,” said Akiba,clapping, “You're doing well.”
“Thanks,” he nervously replied.
“Now let's try again but focus on doing the best of your abilities,”
He did a little better.
After his first lesson, he sang everywhere. In the bathroom,at school, even at night.
When his first test came around,he barely passed because he became nervous.
By his sixth lesson, he sang in terrific unison with Akiba, but still did poorly alone.
So to help Conan out, Akeba found a song where the singer made errors in the tone. Conan would have to use his perfect pitch in unison with his voice to pass this test.
That's what got him really trying. Things went on like this for several weeks,until it came to his tenth test. He had been trained hard for this test. So he wanted to do his best.
End Flashback
Conan took a big swig of water. Then,he cleared his throat for his test.
“Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,” Conan sang,voice full of confidence,emotion,and best of all, his voice had gotten a lot better. No longer was it wobbly, but it was strong.
“This is a fine example of what you can do if you try," thought Akiba.
