Now, there is a long running debate at my school on the singular pronunciation of a specific word...TIMPANI. What do you think the singular pronunciation of timpani is?

It's one of those words that sounds exactly like it looks. It's really not that difficult. And the plural I'm pretty sure is the same as the singular. >.< or you could just do what my friend does and call them timpanougas.

Timpan is the singular.
To be completely correct, it's tympan and tympani. But somehow it's more commonly known as timpani and even less commonly known as timpan drums.

But yes, taking off the last 'i' makes it singular. Kind of like octopus and octopi. Octopi isn't technically correct but the 'i' at the end makes it plural anyway.

I'm the only perc. at my school who even knows any of this lol.

Although knowing this doesn't mean people are going to use it right...I still end up calling singular ones 'timpani' XD
