The act of masturbating putting usual pressure on your sex organs (usually occurs in the face-down position). This is known to make sex unpleasurable. It's called TMS or traumatic masturbratory syndrom.

"concise" explaination: TMS is when you masturbate with pressire on your genitialia. It's bad because it usually makes you only able to orgasm in one position which is undesirable.

BUT if masturbating face down causes TMS, why doesn't dry humping in certain positions do it and why don't woman-on-top positions do it?

PhaedraMcSpiffy BUT if masturbating face down causes TMS, why doesn't dry humping in certain positions do it and why don't woman-on-top positions do it? TMS only happens because you do it that way constantly. If you masturbate in a handful of positions, then once or twice a month face down won't cause a problem. So dry humping is the same. Unless you are dry humping in the same position every day, it's okay.

PhaedraMcSpiffy BUT if masturbating face down causes TMS, why doesn't dry humping in certain positions do it and why don't woman-on-top positions do it? Yeah... I considered that also because I think I have TMS (I can't get off any other way than face-down and putting lots of pressure on) and the only time I've ever gotten off with my boyfriend was dry humping when I was on top (we've tried fingering, and oral and neither of those worked for me...) Since I promised myself never to masterbate face-down again, I guess dry humping in that position is kinda cheating.... But then again, it's probably only a problem if that's the only way you orgasm. I don't think it's really how often you do it that makes a difference - I think it's if you get to the point where nothing else works that makes it a problem. So I guess just vary different ways so you don't get stuck in the rut like I am.

TMS = Traumatic Masturbatory Syndrome
Traumatic masturbation is when you are playing with yourself and someone walks in on you! TMS is the lasting damage caused by such an intrusion. The *ewwwww* feeling you (and probably the other person) get just thinking about it.
So be careful, for the love of God! smile
Just kidding, TMS is supposedly damage done to the male sex organs by masturbating in a face-down prone manner. And I think it's probably not something to worry about, myself. There does not seem to be widespread support in urologic community for the idea that this type of masturbation is any more or less harmful than any other method. Do a Google search on "TMS masturbate" and the only "serious" link you get is the healthystrokes people pushing the TMS theory. If it was a real problem, you'd see links to a host of other sex info sites. At least that's my take on TMS.
I know of at least one person who masturbated this way all through puberty and he never had any trouble as a result.

And, Actually, Wikipedia has this listed: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traumatic_Masturbatory_SyndromeFor you information, I've witnessed first hand what this syndrome can do. My boyfriend had a lot of problem orgasming during intercourse unless it was in one specific position. TMS is not permitant. There are strategies to resverse the effect if caught early. I don't know about the impotency, however. Once you become impotant, you may need professional help. Also, here are several other sites pertaining to the issue: Answers.ComGovernment ReportSomaZonePartner Group TherapyJackin World FAQ Dear Jane

I agree, but stating that the issue doesn't really exist is dangerous in a forum used by people who may not be as educated on an issue. Because I have experience, and had dealt with about 30 couples with similar problems, I believe that there is some truth to this syndrome. You have to remember that a syndrome is "a group of signs and symptoms that occur together and characterize a particular abnormality" It's not a disease and it's curable a lot of the time.
For example, most of the couples I've counseled who had the male have problems orgasming during any other position other than the missionary position, said that they -only- masturbated in the prone position and that they masturbated at least once a day. In my opinion, I think that TMS is evident when the males who masturbate in the prone position do it once a day or more and I think that it probably is a very certain way in the prone position. For example, about 16 men that I talked to masturbated with thier legs together, face down, and made pevic-thrusting motions, simulating the missionary position. Since they got used to that way of orgasming, they found it hard to orgasm in any other positions during sex.
The way my boyfriend got over it was abstaining from masturbation for a while, and then changing the way that he masturbated (ie. in different positions). He still masturbates the same amount, but with more variation as to not get used to only one way.
As for Wikipedia, it is one of the best resources out there as it is peer-evaluated and peer-edited. That means that people are constantly changing the definitions to make them more accurate and more defined. Many Universities suggest to use Wikipedia as a starting for any research paper.
I respect your opinion on the subject, but I think saying that such and such is fake or what-not, when that have been some proof, however minimal one may think, is dangerous in a place where people who are uneducated about topics come to learn. It's the same as stating that one race is always mean becuase that was your experience, as someone who has never encountered said race may take your word on it completely. This is why people state the facts on both sides as objectively as one can.

Quote: In this case of TMS, even a controlled study may be difficult since it is just as likely that men who have the symptoms of this suggested syndrome masturbate this way because of the same problems that give them difficulty in intercourse. It might not be that masturbating face-down prone causes the difficulty, but is itself a symptom. That sounds like a good theory. Moirin TMS = Traumatic Masturbatory Syndrome Traumatic masturbation is when you are playing with yourself and someone walks in on you! TMS is the lasting damage caused by such an intrusion. At least that's my take on TMS...... Yeah, the only thing I've found on it is healthystrokes, and a LOT of their advice seems a little bit... paranoid. I don't think it's a reliable source. Because supposedly they can "cure" themselves of it by masturbating in other positions. Meaning, "get themselves used to orgasming in another position." So I'm not gonna worry about it. Healthystrokes ALSO says not to use a vibrator or running water because it's hard to replicate during intercourse.
