Alright so this isn't a small issue but it doesn't really fit in with any of the other catagories so i suppose it has to go here.
I'll try not to rant but this may take a while to explain. I currently work as a lifeguard for a large conference center. I've been there for two and a half years now, most of the newer co-workers respect me (I hope) and many of the older people there admire my spirit, however in the past six months have have been having a lot of issues that might make me want to quit.
o1: The manager of the pool staff, has been promising and promising that I could have full time morning shifts, however she began promising me these shifts last September and now that I am finally done school and able to work I still haven't gotten full time mornings. I've brought up the issue with her as nicely as I can but she always has an excuse and on top of that she tries to guilt me into staying on evenings, staying on evenings isn't an option however because I'm eighteen, and living by myself I need a full time job and the hours just aren't available in the evening shifts.
o2: We just recently got a new general manager to be in charge of the entire facility, he's been there for about two months. Every manager before him has usually liked me, respected me and they even brag about me, using me as an example for other employees, I don't want to sound full of myself but I've been there long enough that I know what I'm doing, and how to deal with customers. The new manager seems to think that I don't know what I'm doing and that I don't know how to deal with customers very well, he practically told me off today, and also asked me to work overtime when I had already been there teaching since six am, he was asking me to stay until two to help him out, when I asked to go home he asked me to once again fix it and call him when I was done. In short he's a d**k of a manager, if I can be so blunt.
o3. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgea (spelled that wrong, I know) and although it does not hinder my joint movement while I'm in the water, hence why I can still work, I find it's getting harder and harder to stand guard on deck.
o4:With only my high school diploma finding a more professional work place is hard and because I have seniority at my pool, along with a free membership, I'm reluctant to quit and find a new full time job else where. Not to mention it would waste all the time and money spent to get my certification in life guarding, only to work at Wal-mart.
o5: Lastly, most pools will pay lifeguards a few bucks over minimum wage, because of all the training we go through, yes it can seem like an easy job at times but if anything goes wrong we know what to do. My pool and all the pools that are all season operational in this area either pay minimum or just barely over minimum, being at my workplace for so long I know that raises don't happen, It's almost not worth it to stay there with all the extra stress.
So there it is, I'm been agonizing over this for a few months now, because it's a big decision for me.
pros about staying
>free member ship >they pay for all my re-certification >I'm friends with quite a few of the teens in the building >they will probably never fire me >most of the managers adore me >the pool manger values and needs me >I know how to do the job right. >Keep the job and my certifications in check means that when I move away for school (college/University) I can pretty much guarantee a job as a lifeguard locally within the city I move to and it will pay better then this one.
cons about staying
>I get little to no respect from the new head manager >I might be stuck waiting for full time hours >No chance of ever getting a raise >standing for long hours is getting harder >being that most of the employees there are teenagers there's bound to be drama once in a while (I've encountered a lot of it) >guarding lives can be a very stressful job if you care about the people your guarding >Having to constantly re-certify is becoming a drag
Pros about leaving
>stress level may drop and I'll get some breathing space to reassess my situation >I may be able to find better, after all I'm available full time, it is the holiday season and I've got a lot more to put on my resume then the average eighteen year old. >I'll be able to meet new people >I could get better pay if I work in a call center. >I'm not going to be stuck there for ten odd years like some of the others.
cons about leaving
>I'll lose my membership, which helps my fibromyalgea >The job I currently have was and still is my first ever job, therefore I find myself generally inexperienced in job hunting and going to interviews. > I'll miss quite a few of the employees and I know, because I'm a mothing type, I'll want to go back all the time to check up on them and make sure everything is ok. >I lose the seniority comfort thing >finding another job might be hard because I'm demanding full time hours. >no matter where I go there will probably always be drama, stress and stupid managers so I may leave and go somewhere else that is just as stressful and ridiculous, the difference, I have no seniority and I opinion won't be as valid.
So there you have it, I'm asking for people's opinions... I'm still trying to figure it all out as well, I'm hoping some third person opinions will help.

In this situation, I'd say the pros to staying outweigh the cons as well as the cons for leaving outweigh the pros. I personally think you'd be better off stickin' it out until you leave for college.
">Keep the job and my certifications in check means that when I move away for school (college/University) I can pretty much guarantee a job as a lifeguard locally within the city I move to and it will pay better then this one." <---- That's really the most important, at least, to me.
I pretty much stick to the phrase "Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger." I say tough it out. ;] As much of a pain in the a** it is, I'm sure it will be worth it in the end.
I hope everything works out for you! If you ever need to talk, feel free to PM me.
