Xiu watched as the two humans conversed among themselves about the possibility of a cure with ice. Turning to Zul, the white frei regarded him quietly. The frei seemed to be resting.
And no wonder thought Xiu. Zul was hit hard by Lazarus and the dislocated jaw proved it. The white frei couldn’t help wincing at the image. It was…just so violent. Worse still, Xiu had not done anything to stop it but instead had wanted it to go on until one of the raevans perished.
That, Xiu decided as he floated beside the resting frei, would be something he’d keep to himself.

Pale blue eyes opened and turned upwards towards Xiu, his pupils small and slender. "Hey...Xiu," he greeted his white friend as if he wasn't struggling just to keep his wits about him. "What're you here for?" The demon smiled, although the expression was thin and barely touched with humor. Zul rested his head to the side so he could look up at his friend, lifting his hands weakly to brush the already dried and brittle blood from his face.
"Shh...I know, Laz." Alex couldn't entirely find it in her heart to be okay and forget what had happened, but she'd be quick to forgive once it was all said and done, barring any further incidents. She continued to brush through the Sigel's hair even as he passed out, lifting her green eyes to meet Kyou's intense ones. At the question, she bit her lip, trying to think without emotion. Like it was her job. Her eyes flicked to the side as she recollected all that had happened and put it in chronological order, and only when she was confident did she begin to speak.
"It started when he stopped Cordelia with his ice," she began to explain, small pieces of the puzzle falling into place that she'd missed before. "I didn't think anything of it because she doesn't like ice, but since he had stopped her, he expelled most of his ice capabilities. He couldn't absorb it after that, either." She distinctly remembered that and how odd she'd found it. "Within a few days, the molten part of his essence began to leak out of his body, forcefully. He had no control over it. I had to drag him into the ocean at one point because he couldn't move, it was so bad." The crater of her efforts was still there, and would likely be for many, many years.
"He was incoherent from that point on. I started to put him in the tub with ice at that time," she glanced over towards the Frei to make sure he was okay. It seemed Xiu was keeping him company. "At first, it seemed like he was feeding from it, but eventually the heat from his body got so bad that it just began to melt a half dozen bags within minutes." Alex turned her eyes back down to Lazarus, watching his stilled features. "It was during one of my runs to get more ice that he lost it. But until then, it had kept him calm, and in some semblance of control of himself." Just as with Cordelia, she had assumed it had to do with his nature; now, seeing the facts laid out before her, she was beginning to realize there could have been more to it.

Quietly, Kyou listened to Alex's words, collecting information and confirming symptoms are the first steps to creating a cure. So with ice Zul was able to control himself, but with it spent the demonic Frei lost control of himself and his powers. The fact that it stopped Cordelia too reinforced the possibility. The scientist wasn't sure if it is really the cure for the virus, but having a clearer direction now definitely helps a damn lot. Not to mentioned the shriek just now that emitted from Lazarus, it was too high pitched for Lazarus's voice, and it sounded very unnatural. Could it be that the virus's core is still inside the Sigel?
However, now they have more important things to do while the two Raevans are temporarily incapacitated. "Alright, thanks for the information Alex. Ice would probably be our answer after all. Its definitely worth a try." he said, nodding. "But right now we need to quarantine the both of them separately while I work on the cure." And the only way is to put them in separate barriers, Kyou wouldn't risk another fight like that again.
"We will leave Lazarus in this barrier." the scientist said, looking around the room. The Sigel already did all the damage that he could do here, he won't provide another fresh room for him to burn. Hopefully Zul will behave better than Lazarus. "Alex, can you move Zul to the empty room next to this room? I will set up a new barrier there for him, it'll take about an hour or so for me to do so. Do you think Zul will be able to... control himself for that long?"

“Hey,” replied Xiu surprised that Zul was still conscious. The white frei had assumed that after a fight like that, the other would have been knocked out. Zul was definitely much stronger than he looked and Zul had never looked weak to being with. Settling himself beside Zul while the humans conversed over a knocked out Lazarus, Xiu looked sheepish when asked for the reason of him being here.
“Would you believe me if I told you that…I attacked the Doctor?” Xiu asked looking really embarrassed. “I guess I lost my head…,”
Meanwhile, the conversation had turned interesting and Xiu couldn’t help but listen as Alex recalled her tale and how the cold seemed capable of countering the virus. That…made sense…Xiu remembered Hazeline explaining the purpose of refrigeration and how molecules were not as active in cold temperatures. Perhaps…this could be applied to the virus as well? Well…he definitely was not attempting to murder the Doctor so…that was a start?
The Doctor had then mentioned of shifting Zul to a different barrier and Xiu couldn’t help but give a glance to his friend and although inwardly glad that he was not trapped within a barrier as the others were, Xiu felt a small pang of annoyance. That would imply that…unlike Lazarus and Zul who were definite threats, Xiu was…barely a threat. A soft growl was beginning to form when the white frei cut himself short. This was not the time for such selfish thoughts.
“Anything…I can help with, Doctor?” asked Xiu hopefully.

"No," Zul replied with faint laughter. The answer was immediate and without hesitation; Xiu didn't attack anyone! In his middled mind, he remembered the night Alex was out late and that she'd had to help Xiu...had he attacked her, too? The idea was so ridiculous that the demon couldn't seriously consider it as an option. He exhaled slowly with a smile towards the white Frei, a small plume of smoke curling out of the corners of his lips. "Hopefully, it didn't...look like this." There was another short laugh before Zul fell silent, also listening.
He heard all they had to say, but unlike his docile friend, the demon had no qualms with being quarantined. He knew well that he was a danger and that he couldn't trust himself, but he wasn't sure he wanted to let his woman and the doctor know that. The look on her face while she fussed over Lazarus, her injuries...and who the hell was that man hanging around her? Zul's lips parted to ask, but he coughed instead, a rattling sound that had no basis without lungs. Forgetting the apparition, he closed his eyes and went still.
The woman nodded grimly to Kyou, her smile thin. "I'll compile a proper report for you," she offered up, glancing again to her charge and watching him speak with Xiu. "It's the least I can do, to help them when I've endangered them equally..." Alex sighed softly. At the inquiry, however, she bit her lip, but didn't get to answer right away.
"I will try," came the musty response, Zul still stationary and his eyes remaining closed.
Green eyes softened with open fondness. "If he says he'll try, then he'll try. I'll help him get to the other room and get him a pot of ice." It might not last long, but any time bought would help. Alex glanced to Xiu at his inquiry, carefully removing Lazarus' head from her lap and resting it upon the ground, drawing the debris out of his hair. "If the doctor doesn't need you, Xiu, I'd be greatly appreciative if you could get that pot of ice for Zul." She'd rather the Frei retrieved it than stay with Zul while she did it, believing her injuries couldn't really get any worse. Standing slowly, her adrenaline finally running low, she again crossed the room to her charge and prepared to transport him.

"Okay." Kyou nodded once at Zul and then at Alex, they are such strong people. "Let's get moving then." Giving one last look at Lazarus, the scientist rested the Sigel's hand on the floor and stood up. He was still a little shaken from the incidents that just happened, but he must be strong now, and retain a clear mind. He has a job to do.
The first thing he needed to do is to break the barrier again, at least this time he wouldn't need to worry about any danger breaking out. Stopping by the door frame, Kyou used his sleeve to wipe out the newer part of the red markings that he drew on just minutes before. As the string of markings broke, so did the barrier.
"There, you can exit now. Please carry Zul to the room next door." he instructed Alex.
"Xiu," turning over to the white Raevan, Kyou beckoned him over. "Aside from the pot of ice, that you could probably get from the freezer in the kitchen, could you get me a pack of blood from Tsu's office as well?" It will be used to draw the exact same string of markings for the other room. "And... do you mind making me another cup of your strong coffee later? After this all is done." The scientist couldn't wait, he knew that ever familiar feeling very well, the adrenaline and inspiration rush. He know he won't be able to rest until he comes up with a working cure, and Xiu's strong coffee would definitely keep him up for quite some time.
Kyou also made a mental note to throw in a box of match and some firewood later, in case Lazarus is too weak to conjure fire to feed himself.

“No, not as damaging as this,” agreed Xiu with a wry smile at Zul’s statement. Then nodding to Alex, Xiu rose. He knew where a bucket could be found and it was a good thing that the Lab’s freezer was large. Xiu only hoped that it contained the ice required to help keep Zul under control.
The Doctor had then spoken, asking him to bring along a pack of blood in addition to the pot of ice. That could be easily managed as well. It was the next request of the Doctor that made Xiu pause to eye Dr. Kyou thoughtfully. He…actually wanted the coffee the frei made?
Xiu couldn’t help himself as a small trace of a smile formed. “Understood, Doctor.” Xiu said before floating out of the barrier and towards the kitchen. Along the way, the frei picked up a rather large bucket from a closet. Filling the bucket with as much ice as he could find (including a packet of popsicles), the frei then made his way towards Tsu’s office. Grabbing a blood pack and tossing it onto the ice pile, Xiu hefted his load up the stairs. The temperature of the lower ground as well as that of the passageway was higher than the room Lazarus was trapped in and the white frei found himself growing apprehensive as he neared the corridor containing the two demonic raevans. Shaking his head, the white frei uttered a soft growl. The two demonic raevans were in no condition to fight and if there ever was a more perfect timing…
Xiu grabbed at the chilled blood pack and placed it against his face. The coldness of the blood pack calmed the white raevan somewhat but that feeling of dread would not leave. The frei hastened his stride. Arriving at the room beside the one that contained Lazarus, where the two humans and Zul were, Xiu offered the bucket of ice to Alex and the partially melted packet of blood to Kyou. At the sight of Zul however, Xiu could feel his body going rigid as adrenaline rushed in and his mind screamed out instructions to eliminate the threat. It was all Xiu could do to back out of the room with the weak excuse of preparing the coffee. What the frei really wanted to do was to put as much distance as possible between himself and his two demonic friends.
Should the Doctor and Alex enter Kyou’s room later, they would find a pot of steaming hot strong coffee, two empty mugs, a pitcher of cold fruit cordial (just in case they changed their minds), a few neatly prepared sandwiches, some cut fruit and couple of cake slices arranged neatly on a tray. Meanwhile, the white frei had resigned himself to the confines of Tsu’s office with the temperature of the air conditioner turned to the lowest possible figure.

Alex touched the demon's face, feeling the heat that was already beginning to surge through his skin. He looked so weak and sickly, resting against the wall and staring at her in knowing silence; there was no way for her to ask if he remembered why he was in the room, why her arms looked like she'd dipped them in red paint. Instead, the woman slipped her arm around the Frei's back, ignoring the gentle bump of his spine and the heat that seeped more obviously from the spaces between the bones, helping him get up. It was no effort - he was so very light - but she kept her arm around him all the same, walking them out of the room. "Thank you," she said to Kyou as they passed, her emotions once again tucked away in favor of business, her expression grim.
Zul only felt the briefest inkling of freedom as they entered the hallway, just as briefly entertaining the idea of fleeing then and there, but he was not yet so far gone to act upon it. The Frei leaned against his woman gratefully, wanting to apologize but not; it might be best if they thought he had no memory of what happened before the last portion of the fight. "How long," he breathed, his voice all smoke and whispers, "will this be?" He didn't want to be confined. He didn't want to feel like he was being left behind or was unimportant, or...he didn't know what he'd do, but it would be bad.
A soft sigh escaped her. "I...I don't know, Zul," came the honest reply as they entered the spare room, "but I promise you this: we're going to fix this. We're going to find the cure, and we're going to go home, and we're going to be happy together." The Italian's voice was strong and pointed, a far cry from the tired look in her eyes and the weak set of her lips. "I just need you to hold on a little longer, and trust me. Trust Kyou. Trust Xiu. We're all in this together."
"I will...go with you," he panted softly as the woman rested him against the wall again, barely paying any mind to his surroundings, "to Riv. To Airy. To any of them..." Zul closed his eyes as Xiu came in, his muscles slowly relaxing. The wallpaper at his back began to peel and burn, but he paid it no mind; that would be the least of his concerns, soon...
Alex dipped her hands into the bucket, giving Xiu a grateful smile and a soft word of thanks before resting one of the cubes against her charge's face, watching it all but evaporate from existence. That was a good sign, it meant he was feeding, for now. She hoped it meant he'd be able to gather his wits about him again when it was time. "Okay," she replied to the Raevan's words, using the wet on the bloody tatters of her shirt to clean some of chest, "we'll do that. It's the least we can do..."
She simply rested on her haunches next to the demon, alternating between cleaning and 'feeding' him for the hour it would take to set up his ward. Afterwards, she would have many hours of furious typing to get out her report for Kyou and help him all she could with the cure. They were her family, too.
