Lofrewth, surely, was the best dragon on the face of the earth. K'ae was in constant awe of her dragon. The brilliant striped green had a personality that shone as brightly as the sun, and was as good natured as could be, and so much fun! The party never stopped when Lofrewth was around, and K'ae loved it. Weyrlinghood was proving to be one, big, amazing adventure. <> Lofrewth requested, leaning against K'ae's hip lightly. Lofrewth was...not growing very much. K'ae didn't worry about. Lofrewth would be perfect no matter what size she was, and if she wasn't growing as much as those other dragons, well who cared? She was beautiful as she was. Besides, her slow growth meant that she didn't need to be oiled quite as often, and they had more time to spend together doing other things, like playing or causing mischief.
"Darling, you don't want to get wet. I just oiled you. Let it soak for a little while before you go for a swim," K'ae advised, rubbing Lofrewth's head fondly.
<> Lofrewth asked, not phased at all in her enthusiasm, and not at all peeved by the decline of her former request. That was one of the many things K'ae loved about her. Lofrewth didn't worry, she didn't brood, she didn't sulk. She was happy and loving and forgiving and wonderful. Then again, she supposed all of the newly impressed felt that way about Theirs. Who couldn't love their dragon?
"That sounds like a good idea, Lo'. Maybe we can make some new friends while we're there?" K'ae questioned, leading the way out of the Weyrling barracks, and starting out into the Bowl. Lofrewth trotting happily alongside her. It really was a nice day to be out. The sun was shining, there were only a few dabs of cloud in the sky, and it was relatively warm. For High Reaches, anyway. K'ae often missed the unending warmth that was a trademark of Southern and Ista. Oh well. Lofrewth was worth the weather. She was worth all of Pern.
<> Lofrewth commented, in her usual, energetic way. When was Lofrewth not energetic? Even in sleep, the petite green kicked and wormed, engaged zealously in her dream antics.
"Sure thing, Lovely. But you have to ask people too, especially if they have dragons. You can speak much better over distances than I can," K'ae remarked, lengthening her stride so that they would reach the lake sooner. Lofrewth increased her pace as well, but looked from side to side constantly, eyeing any potential pool party friends. She wanted to find just the right person to bring with. What exactly made someone the 'right' person? Lofrewth wasn't really sure. But she knew she would recognize it when she saw them.

Amelia actually had an opportunity to rest today - Sharath was both fed and oiled and the sun was bright, bathing the weyrbowl in warmth and light. Sharath, in a rare display of her youthful vigour, was bounding through the grass - a bright streak of buttery gold against the greenery of the grass. Her rider ran behind, keep pace as well as she could with her dragon.
You're slow Mine! Keep up! Sharath called, glancing back as she galloped around, leaning into her wild, playful run.
"That's because I only have two feet Sharath!" Amelia called back with a laugh, her smile broad and happy. It was so good to stretch her legs and the flood of warm feelings that inundated her through the link with Sharath buoyed her up into a truly pleasant mood. "Slow down if you want me to run with you!"
Why? I thought you were so fit Amelia! She slowed a touch though, wings flared as if she might try to leap into the air, Hurry up then, Mine!

Lofrewth was bouncing along happily, eyes peeled for potential playmates, when she spotted the best thing ever. Sharath. A gold. Wouldn't she be a wonderful playmate? That creamy gold was eyecatching, particularly against the vibrant grass. Lofrewth almost tripped over her own feet, because she wasn't watching where she was going. She was watching Sharath, of course. Lofrewth had a huge amount of respect for golds, after all, look how much power they had! Girl power for the win! Lofrewth put on the brakes, nearly tumbling over, as she turned and practically bounced over to the general vicinity of Amelia and Sharath.
<> Lofrewth adressed, wiggling in place excitedly. <> she complimented. But of course Lofrewth thought Sharath splendid. Didn't everyone know that dragons wore green and gold the best?
K'ae hurried quickly after Lofrewth, and almost did a double take when she saw what Lofrewth was after. Was it really the best idea to be disturbing Amelia and Sharath? K'ae didn't know either personally, but she didn't think it would be the best idea to bother them. Still, she supposed that since Lofrewth had come charging in, she might as well try and introduce herself. She came to a stop next to her dragon, and couldn't help but watch Amelia and Sharath's antics herself. It was...touching. A dragon and her girl having fun, wasn't that the best? Responsibility was for squares, K'ae wanted to enjoy life! "'Lo there!" she called, waving an arm energetically.

When Sharath's head jerked up, suddenly alert, Amelia nearly tumbled past the dragon when she abruptly stopped. "Sharath!" Narrowly avoiding the collision, Amelia had to let her hair down and put it back up as she puffed up her cheeks in mild annoyance, "If you stop so suddenly I might run you over. Be careful!"
The gold's gaze flicked back to Amelia, a sense of warm apology about her, I am sorry Mine. Lofrewth called me. See? You said I should not ignore others. She said we look very well.
"I did... but you don't have to try to trip me up too." Shaking her head, laughing slightly, the goldrider set a hand on Sharath's head. Grateful to know Sharath was at least trying to follow her advice, she just wondered how it might go. Small steps, small steps.
Following the direction her lifemate had indicated, Amelia caught sight of the bounding, bright green and smiled broadly. Offering a wave to dragon and rider both. "Hello! Enjoying the sunshine too?"
Greetings, Lofrewth! Her tone was pleased, perhaps even welcoming as she padded towards the green, As do you and Yours. Did you need something? That was two things she'd done now that Amelia had suggested - don't ignore people when you're called, and ask if they wanted something because people often called when they were in need. Puffing up slightly, Sharath seemed pleased with herself. As long it didn't mean she was subservient to the other riders and dragons, she was respected, and her goals were not jeopardized, she thought she might be able to make Amelia happy this way.
It had, after all, worked so far.

<> Lofrewth said again, bouncing up and down with energy and excitement. Lofrewth was all for girl power, and golds were the epitome of that, weren't they? Sharath commanded so much power and respect, Lofrewth couldn't help but idolize her. <> she admitted, ceasng her jumping but weaving back and forth in place a little. <> she declared, eyes whirling a shocking blue. <> Lofrewth reasoned, tilting her head a little to the side in thought.
<> Lofrewth added, trying to keep in mind that not everyone liked to have fun as much as she. How strange. <> she concluded, finally plunking down on her green bum as K'ae caught up with her dragon, smiling and offering slight bows to Amelia and Sharath in turn.
Well, they didn't seem too upset or anything, so it seemed Lofrewth hadn't said anything to upset them. Good. K'ae's fingers absently found their way to the green's eye ridges, scratching them gently as she glanced between Lofrewth and Sharath, noting the comical difference in size and pattern. Lofrewth was a little dragon, but next to Sharath, who wasn't even a huge gold, well, Lofrewth looked tiny! K'ae found it endearing, and sent loving thoughts her dragon's way.
"We're enjoying the sun very much," K'ae answered, "But please, pardon my manners, I'm K'ae and this is Lofrewth," K'ae introduced, in case Amelia didn't remember from Weyrling lessons. She also extended a hand for shaking, not exactly sure how to act around Amelia. She wasn't in the habit of associating with goldriders, was there some special ettiquete she should follow?
<> Lofrewth stated, leaning into the hip of Hers, but keeping her eyes on Amelia and Sharath. Honestly, Hers needed to learn to treat people like people, but that was okay. Lofrewth was teaching Hers that. She would be patient.
"Sorry if we're bothering you in any way, Lofrewth wanted to come over and say hello though, I think," K'ae explained, a little sheepishly. This wasn't something she was going to get in trouble for, was it? She'd been trying extra hard to stay out of trouble as of late, and it worked well...for the most part.

Sharath tilted her head when the other invited her to play, and the feedback of surprise from Hers once she informed Amelia hinted that this was an uncommon thing. It made the gold grin and she arched her neck proudly, bobbing her head before Amelia could suggest they accept. Swimming is not a good idea, but... Surging forward, Sharath bunted the green's shoulder with her nose and took off running, You wanted chase?
That someone actually wanted to just play with her... to get to know her put Sharath in amazing spirits and it stunned Amelia. The dragonet acted so high and mighty all the time... was this because she pined for the fame and glory of a beloved leader but had misconceptions about how to attain it? Either way, that her dragon was capable of silliness and childish play made the goldrider grin with pride.
"That was Sharath..." Amelia replied with a laugh, shaking her head, "Who is apparently in an exceptionally good mood. I'm Amelia." Taking the offered hand, she pumped it a few times as she smiled, "Nah, I don't mind. I like the company, and her hello worked... but her playmate's getting away." Nodding at the young gold, Sharath had stopped and turned sideways, head craned up high to peer in their direction.
"How've you been?" Tucking flyaway wisps of hair back, Amelia returned her gaze to K'ae, "I don't know about you, but I feel like I'm run off my feet most of the time. So busy!"

Lofrewth trumpeted with delight and raced off after Sharath, nearly upsetting K'ae with her sudden movement and a lash of her muscular tail. K'ae however, used to her dragon's sudden starts, was able to scoot away and avoid the swing of her dragon's tail, and watched with unmasked affection as the green's leg's blurred in the grass, only the flash of her neon green stripes visible.
Lofrewth was more than happy to attend to and play with Sharath. A feminist herself, Lofrewth approved of Sharath's lofty goals, and didn't find them unreasonable, nor her behavior offputting. Sharath would make a good queen, Lofrewth was sure, as she was confident time would smooth out any shortcomings she had. Besides, who wouldn't want to get to know their queen? The fact that Sharath was willing to play further cemented Lofrewth's opinions. <> Lofrewth taunted playfully.
She raced after the larger dragon, shorter legs working furiously to keep up. She was well aware that in a straight race, she would be unable to best the larger gold, but plotted instead to outmanuever her sister, if given the chance.
K'ae watched as Lofrewth bolted off, chuckling at the young dragon's antics. "Lofrewth's elated to play with Sharath, I'm sure. I think she idolizes her," K'ae remarked. "Especially after that incident at the lessons, between you and that boy...R'ysan? You should have heard her, she wouldn't stop talking about it," K'ae laughed, as a sort of explanation for Lofrewth's excitement. Then again, Lofrewth was happy and excited most of the time.
K'ae rolled her eyes for Amelia's benefit, and gave an exagerated sigh. "Good, I think, but between lessons and taking care of Lofrewth, I'm amazed I have any time for myself," K'ae confided, biting her lip a little as she thought of how badly her hair needed tending to. And her wardrobe! She couldn't remember the last time she'd actually had time to put a proper outfit on. It seemed convenience and functionality was all she dressed for these days.
"Though I shouldn't complain, Lofrewth is worth it. And besides, you probably have a worse time of it than I do, being a goldrider and all," K'ae mused, and shrugged. "Not to be nosy, I'm just curious," K'ae began, "But what exactly does that entail? What kind of stuff does Luci teach you? We wonder about it in Lessons, and I'm sure of the things that get whispered between us kids are rumors."

Doubtful! The gold called as she reared up on her hind legs and clawed the air, wings flapping. It reminded Amelia of some of the emblems she'd seen in old scrolls... a Dragon Rampant. Dropping back down to all fours, the gold ran off again only when Lofrewth was within pouncing distance in a game of tag and tease.
Amelia blinked at that and tilted her head, glancing at the gold, "Really? I thought everybody got the impression I was some kind overbearing brat. She actually likes Sharath?" Hope and pleased surprise were bright in her voice as she spoke, and she shifted her weight, lips turning up into a grateful smile, "I'm glad. I was beginning to wonder if she had any allies at all."
The goldrider laughed, "I hear you there. Sharath is growing so quickly... it's always feed, oil, lesson, rinse and repeat. I hardly have time for anything besides that." She didn't seem to resent the busy schedule, however, as she shrugged, "Sharath is definitely worth it. I... I don't know. It's hard to explain that security, you know?"
"I have a lot to catch up on, if that's what you mean?" Amelia tilted her head to the side, "The stuff I learn... mostly politicking, Weyr management, the expectations associated with being the lifebonded to a gold... that sort of thing. Management in general, really. It's a lot of information and formalities. I don't think it's much different then the lessons to get... just with a few added things that are specific to taking on the title of Junior Weyrwoman." She pursed her lips thoughtfully, "If that makes any sense."

Lofrewth let out a shrill cry as she attempted to keep up with Sharath. It wasn't the nicest sound to the ears, but it was a happy noise, at least; this was fun! Lofrewth couldn't resist a feeble flap of her own wings, and longed for the day when she could use them. Soon, Hers said. Not soon enough for Lofrewth. She wanted to fly now! With another shriek, a draconic version of a 'yipee', Lofrewth leapt up, clearing the grass as she tested how high her legs could take her. <> Lofrewth joked, hitting the ground and continuing her run, only to jump up yet again in a would be take-off. <> she broadcasted, for anyone in the vicinity to hear. Hitting the ground with a 'thump', she was delayed only slightly by the impact. What fun this jumping was! Distracted temporarily from her running game, Lofrewth jumped up and down, up and down, glancing between the humans and Sharath.
"Oh, Sharath has a willing ally in Lorewth, I assure you," K'ae said, turning to watch her dragon's excited jumping and beaming in response. How could she be so lucky, what had she done to deserve this? Surely something good, for everyday with Lofrewth was a treasure in itself.
"You know, it puzzles me sometimes; Lofrewth is so young, yet she knows so much; sometimes more than I do, I think. You'd never guess what she said to me the other day," K'ae began, wagging a finger knowingly. "I mentioned to her that she was growing so fast, and that it would be strange, once she got big, and we wouldn't be able to do all the things we do now, wouldn't be able to play all of our games, and that I was worried she would change, and wouldn't want to do those things with me anymore. Silly, I know, but this was late at night, when the anxiety bites, and I was just getting to thinking.
"And you know what she said to me? She said 'K'aeMine, please don't worry. You grew up and you are still the same person, and the same will happen to me. How big I am doesn't matter, it's who I am. And I will always be your friend.' Isn't that something?" K'ae questioned, eyes glazing a little as she recalled the incident.
"Sorry, didn't mean to drag on or anything," K’ae apologized. "I just meant that, maybe Sharath needs time. From what I’ve seen, her heart’s in the right place, and that’s the most important thing," K’ae remarked, with a nod for good measure.
”Sure it makes sense. I suppose as a goldrider, you have to be ready to take charge at any moment, and all of that stuff. That must be stressful, I can hardly imagine it. Everyone expects so much from you and Sharath...but you’ll do well, I’m sure,” K’ae added at the last minute, not wanting to seem rude.

The gold slowed to a stop when Lofrewth started to leap and bounce along, lifting her head high to watch the smaller dragon jump about like a some sort of mountain animal. Clearly confused, she turned around to watch, head tilted to one side - Lofrewth was getting pretty high!
"That's good," Amelia replied, honestly thankful for that knowledge, "Aye... Sharath is like that too. For all her vim and vigour, she's always concerned about my wellfare. And despite her getting to be Dorath's size, I look forward to the new things we'll be able to do. Like fly."
She chuckled, "I want to learn to fly. I've never been outside the Weyr or flown or taken Between because my life was here. I'm curious to see what it's like."
"I'm glad you can see that. She does have her heart in the right place, and I think she'd be a good leader, but... it'll take time. And a lot of effort." Amelia shook her head, "Or I don't know what will happen. Sharath's got such a strong personality."
Again, the goldrider smiled, brightly, "Thanks. I aim to do well and Sharath has already made her intent clear. Just have to get there, I suppose. And not screw up too much."

Recalling their previous game of chase, Lofrewth took advantage of Sharath's momentary fascination with her jumping, and when she landed, instead of jumping up again, leapt forward with great speed and purpose, her legs flexing and folding under her as she surged towards Sharath as fast as she could, seeking to close the gap between them, and aspiring to pounce on her larger sibling. She would catch Sharath! It wasn't in Lofrewth's nature to give up easily.
At the mention of flying, K'aes eyes took on a momentary dreamy, out-of-focus look as she imagined it. "Yes, I do look forward to flying," she admitted; and wasn't that the understatement of the century? If she and Lofrewth could have this much fun on the ground, just imagine what they could do once they could fly, once they could go between? They'd be masters of the whole of Pern! "I guess, I don't have to worry about her growing up too much. Not nearly as big as Dorath," K'ae laughed. "Lofrewth's just so tiny. I think she's the littlest dragon I've ever seen, ironic that she impressed to a big girl like me She doesn't let it stop her though. It's endearing, I think."
When K'ae heard that Amelia had never been away from the Weyr, her eyes widened. Well, sure, K'ae knew that some people spent their whole lives at the Weyr but, but...it was still strange to her. High Reaches was so...different. Not bad different, but it certainly didn't measure up to many of the other places on Pern. Rocks and the cold just weren't as fun as, well, the beaches of Southern. "Oh, really?" K'ae questioned. "That's...wow,' she paused. Sure, she lived here now, but...it was her life down south that shaped her character. Made her who she was. No wonder it felt like she stuck out like a sore thumb sometimes. "Well, this High Reaches place sure isn't Souther," she laughed, running a hand through her hair, which was losing some of its brilliant blond tone now that she was spending less time outdoors. "Tell you what, you and I, once our dragons can fly, need to go to Ista or Southern sometime. It's amazing! Not that High Reaches isn't," she added, not knowing how loyal or protective Amelia was of her home. "But it's...nice," she trailed off.
"I don't think you'll screw up, but if you ever need a helping hand or some support, just give Lofrewth and I a call. We'd be glad to help with whatever you need," K'ae said, proudly. She may be a green rider, but that didn't mean she couldn't perform well. And as Lofrewth often said, she could do anything just as well as any blue, brown or bronze. She was green, she was a fighter, and so was K'ae. Well, minus the green part.

Sharath bugled in protest as the little green was upon her in a flash. In trying to turn and run, the gold had tripped on her own limbs and the stumble had cost her the game. Rearing up when the green neared, she batted playfully at her clutch mate in a mock fight.
Amelia chuckled, "I don't know what I'll do when Sharath is full grown. We wrestle now and I hug her... but I'll only be able to hug her nose when she's bigger and that defeats the point. Unless you count being hugged by your dragon as the answer to that."
The goldrider's face lit up at the invite and she grinned broadly, "Really? I'd love to go see it. High Reaches is my home but I've always been curious about what else there is! It's a deal then, when we can fly and go Between, we'll visit your home grounds. I've heard it's hot though... hopefully I won't burn."
"I'll remember that." Amelia replied gratefully, "And if you need anything, let me know, hm? I can probably affect change if I put my mind to it." Winking, she smiled hugely. She liked Lofrewth, the greenrider seemed like a good person.
