 Humdrum, humdrum, humdrum…
To Taj, that was the exact noise that the wind made as it blew through the dried yellow grass of the Pridelands. It was amazingly appropriate, he thought, seeing as that was exactly what he was experiencing: a tedious humdrum of nothing. And he couldn’t stand nothing. Nothing was boring! The young male snorted a little, which quickly turned into a sneeze at the dry dust of the place. Well, he would take care of that humdrum! He would drum it out of… of existence, that’s what. Ha! Nothing would stand in his way in his war on… uhh… nothing.
Ok, so he knew it needed work, but that was alright. Shaking his dark coat free of dust motes, the dark-colored lion padded off, his tail twitching behind him. In this vast, wide world, there was always something to do. He just had to find it. And, hopefully, he’d find someone else to drag along with him. Having fun alone just wasn’t as good as dragging someone else along, you know? At least, that was Taj’s plan, but he shortly got distracted by a small bug that happened to be fluttering by.
Oh, now that was a mistake, little bug! Taj immediately darted after the innocuous insect, determined to bring it down. Hey, at least it was something to do while searching for someone!

Mivu, again, was in a rather grumpy mood. His little falling-out with his youngest sister had not improved his outlook on life. Rather, it had deeply darkened it. For a good reason. Dayo had spent much time away from her family, and had just now decided to return...
And he was supposed to welcome her back with open arms?
He closed his eyes in frustration and stood at a complete stand-still for a moment. He couldn't believe that his youngest sibling, his very favorite and the one he had spent the most time with when they were cubs, was now fully grown. It tore at his heart, to be quite honest. Maybe that's why he was in such a pissy mood all the time, nowadays.
When he opened his eyes, the strangest sight was a little ways off, in front of him. A grown lion, black with a yellow mane, was flitting about like a girl. Chasing...something that Mivu couldn't see. The lion didn't really move towards the other, but squinted his eyes in slight confusion.

At first, Taj didn’t realize he was being watched, mostly because he was focused on the bug. But this little flitterer got lucky. At some point, it landed on the ground, leaving Taj utterly clueless about what to do next. He batted it a few times, trying to see if it was still alive or not. And then he lost interest. Abandoning the bug, Taj glanced around for something else to do, if only to fight off the demons of boredom a little while longer. Since a big yellow lion tends to stand out, it didn’t take Taj very long to notice the stranger.
“Oh, hi!” he said cheerfully and then, by way of an explanation, he added, “There was a bug. It’s gone now. But it was there, so I wasn’t just chasing after nothing. I’m Taj.”

Surprised that he had been caught watching the other male (so quickly, too), Mivu stuttered for a moment, blinking. What did he say to that? Sure? He didn't really believe the lion--Taj, he introduced himself as--when he said that there was a bug. Why would a lion chase after a bug?
"Mivu," he replied, rather to the point. He looked around the area for a moment.
"Did...did the bug fly away, then?"

So the other was named Mivu then? At least, that was what Taj assumed the other lion meant, unless he had some sort of condition that meant he’d say random words at inopportune moments. Since Taj had been taught to be polite----especially to other Pridelanders who might know where he lived----he nodded in a friendly manner towards the other lion. “Alright, Mivu. Nice to meet you.”
He glanced back at where he had seen the bug which was actually still there. But it wasn’t moving, so that meant it wasn’t fun and therefore was not actually there. “Hmm… nope. The bug’s still there. It just stopped moving and there’s no fun in chasing something that isn’t moving.”
