Though Phoebe generally trusted her mother, she had to wonder about the catwoman's latest brilliant idea--to make a trek to the woods surrounding Mer Co. Mena had cobbled together some sort of plastic sheath thing for 'shoes' for her tentacles, but she could feel every stick, rock, and who knew what else she was squelching over. At first it had been sort of interesting, but now she found herself tired, cranky, and bored--not the best combination for a five year old. "Maaaamaaaa..."
"I know that voice. That is voice of defeat! Rise about it, Phoebe!" Mena said, obscenely cheerful in comparison to her little jellyfish daughter. The hybrid Turkish Angora woman had always been something of a ham, and now she had a new kid to shower dramatic tendencies on. "Come on, I think I see something moving up ahead."
"What if it's a monster? We could get eaten!"
"Like your mom would let you get eaten by some halfrate monster. C'mon, Phoebs, you know me better than that," Mena said, attempting to ruffle Phoebe's jelly-consistency "hair" and instead managing more of a massage. "Besides, if we really got into serious trouble Eli would come and save us."
Phoebe had to admit her mother had a point. Magical boys were handy to have in the family...

Awin was playing not too far from the small clearing she called home. While she wasn't as fond of the forest as her guardian, it was home after all. She had discovered a couple of streams that were fairly close to the clearing as well as a small pond a bit farther away. The pond was out of reach for her without a helping ride from Tuelden, but the streams were close enough that she could manage to crawl her way to them and splash in them.
That was where she was currently, splashing in one of the streams near home. Seawater was much better, but this was better than no water. She was trying to talk her father into moving them closer to the sea, or to a large stream that fed into the sea. No such luck thus far, though.
The girl had scared most of the fish out of the stream, not that she really noticed. She was having too much fun with her splashing and playing to notice much of anything at the moment.

The mother-daughter duo heard the sounds of splashing long before they got within sight range, and they'd slowed to a more cautious approach. Mena's eyesight was somewhat better than Phoebe's, so it was Mena who said, "Huh...Phoebs, I think it's another Mer Co kid. Wanna say hi?"
Phoebe stretched up on tip-tentacle to try and get a glance, but the girl ahead was mostly just a lot of blue from this distance. "Yeah!" she said, suddenly excited. She'd never met another mer but she knew they were hybrids of all kinds of sea creatures.
"All right then! Onward we go~" Mena said, pushing Phoebe out in front of her a bit. "Don't be shy, go say hello."
Phoebe nodded and merrily squelched her way over to the stream Awin was playing in. "Hello! I'm Phoebe, what's your name?" She waved with one hand, and one tentacle unconsciously waved as well.

Awin didn't notice that people were nearby until Phoebe spoke up. Eyes wide, she gave a bit of a start and looked around before spotting the jellyfish girl. "Hi! I'm Awin." She smiled, her hands still swishing about in the water around her. She was very interested in this other girl. She had funny legs, but it seemed she could walk, which was something the little fish girl couldn't do.

"It's nice to meet you, Awin," Phoebe said, very politely, before glancing at the stream and tentatively dipping a tentacle in. "Oooh, it's cold! But it feels nice." And it did, even despite the protective sheaths she wore on her tentacle-legs. She wondered how Awin got around...she did have a tail, so maybe she slithered like a snake? "May I play with you?"
Mena chuckled. If her other kids had been this unfailingly polite...well, maybe it was because of them she was overcompensating with Phoebe's social education.

Awin giggled. She'd been in the stream long enough to have adjusted to the temperature and hardly noticed it anymore. Grinning, she nodded. "Yeah! I was just splashing... it's fun!"

Phoebe hesitated only a bit before squelching full-body into the stream, her entire body quivering as she shivered, but she adjusted to the temperature quickly enough. "I have an idea!" she said, clapping her hands together. "Watch out, I'm gonna spin--whiiiirlpooool~" the jellyfish sang out, twirling around and around in the stream, her tentacles spinning around as if the girl was a merry-go-round.
