The sky was grey as the clouds loomed overhead. The night before had rained heavily; still leaving the mucky residue of smog and humidity in the air. The sun couldn't be seen and the sky looked like it could give a heavy shower at any time.

Nes, clad in his rubbery raincoat, matching boots and clear straight umbrella, was jumping from sidewalk puddle to sidewalk puddle. His dad put him to bed early the night before due to a headache and an insane amount of work, so the little pocky boy was hyper and full of energy. Even when he had his rain gear on his body, he was still soaked from the knees down. Puddles had their own way of creeping up the legs of the jumper and then making them soaked in rain water, even though they are fully protected.

"DAD, DAD! LOOK!" Nes said happily towards his father as the two of them headed down the street towards the mall. He had run out of children's shampoo and Nes refused to use the adult ones after the first time he used it and it stung his eyes until he started crying. "COME JUMP IN THE PUDDLES TOO!"

"Don't talk so loud, it's making my ears ring." His dad, also holding an umbrella, said; following slowly behind as he felt the aftereffects of headache medicine. "You'll catch a cold, just keep dry until we're at the store" He pleaded the little Pocky boy.

Lyell stood at the doors of the mall, looking out at the misty grey that hung like a wet blanket over the world outside. He'd come to the mall with Mari, seeing it as a wonderful chance to look around, but had eventually grown bored of the things he'd seen before. He supposed he could travel further into the mall and visit new stores, but... it was crowded on this day, and Lyell dared not stray terribly far from Mari if he were entering the crowds.

He knew the option was available to him of leaving early and walking home. It wasn't too far, after all. However, looking out at the dismal weather made this seem like less of a good idea. He hadn't brought an umbrella or raincoat for the trip, having intended to ride in a car both from and back to his home... If it started raining during his walk... well, okay, he wouldn't mind it too terribly. However, he would mind getting a cold, or having to dry off and change his clothes when he did get home, rather than heading straight into some activity more interesting than sitting at the mall.

Well, okay. So people-watching wasn't so bad.

Sitting on a bench, Lyell absently swung his legs over the ground, looking out at the parking lot. He blinked as he saw a new pair approaching the doors of the mall, the younger being his age and jumping about in puddles while the older trailed behind at a more leisurely pace.

Approaching through the parking lot, Nes looked for larger, deeper puddles to jump in. But before he knew it, he was at the doors of the mall. He looked left and right for something to splash in before his dad had caught up to him; one last splash to end for a few hours of shopping. Instead of finding a puddle, he found something better; a Pocky boy! He ran up to the boy as he closed his umbrella. a large smile plastered on his face. It had been so long since he'd met another of the kind.

"hi! I'm Nes, what's your name? Why're you sitting out here? Are you all alone?" He said as he didn't even realize he was bombarding this boy with questions at nearly the speed of light. "How'd you get here? Do you like to splash in puddles too?" Seeing this, Anthony ran towards them faster than Nes could spout more questions that may or may not have offended the other party. He pressed Nes' head down to get him to be quiet for a little bit.

"I'm sorry if Nes here was a bother to you." He said as he held Nes down and nodded a small bow towards the Pocky boy. Hey, even children need respect and love equal to an adults! "Please don't hold it against him if he has said anything bad to you." He said as he let go of Nes to let him at the boy before them. Nes said a small sorry to the boy before him, but snuck a small smile of eagerness to get to know the other party.

Lyell blinked as the boy crossing the lot seemed to take notice of him. More confusing was when the other hurried up to him. There was a brief moment of stillness, the calm before the storm, as the other closed the umbrella he carried with him. Then, before Lyell could react, he found himself bombarded with questions and yet given no time to respond. Waiting quietly, trying to keep track of all the questions, Lyell felt a small wave of relief as the older male had caught up and ceased the stream of questions.

The pocky boy gave a shake of his head at the man's words. "He hasn't been a bother, or said anything bad," he assured, legs giving an idle swing, seeing as in sitting on the bench they dangled just above the ground.

With the quiet that fell after his words, Lyell took the time to answer those questions he'd been asked as best as he could remember them. "My name's Lyell and...... I'm waiting for my mom to finish her errands, so no, I'm not all alone...." Every now and then Lyell would trail off, recalling the questions that he'd been bombarded with. "I got here in my mom's car... and who doesn't like to splash in puddles?"

Nes smiled happily as he seemed to say he wasn't offended. In his eyes, that was good. His dad nodded and sighed in relief. "That's good. He can slip out of my fingers every now and again, that's why." He said to the boy. "Lyell. That's a very nice name. It's good to meet you." He said. Nes on the other hand wasn't as calm as his high-strung father. He wanted to play with the boy who sat before them. Eagerness built inside of his little heart until it burst. "But why didn't you go with your mom? It's dangerous for a young boy to be out by himself, and especially in this weather." Anthony said to the boy. But before he could continue with anything, Nes had cut into the conversation.

"Lyyeeelllll, let's plaaayy!" He whined to the other boy; completely forgetting the reason why they came to the mall in the first place. "It only rains once in a while. The puddles will disappear and we'll have to wait and i might never see you again and it might never rain again!" He took a deep breath after to make up for the lack of air in his lungs from the previous phrase. He didn't even ask his dad if he would let him play with Lyell or stay in the rain more.

"Nes, you have to be more considerate. Lyell doesn't even have a rain jacket or umbrella. If he gets sick, i don't think his mom would like that at all." Anthony said to Nes. He didn't listen. He just wanted to play with Lyell. "hmmm... I can give my rain coatie to him! I can use the umbrella!" He said with a large smile across his face; thinking his idea was brilliant.

Lyell shook his head, feet continuing to absently swing as they dangled just above the ground below. "I went with her, but then it was boring so I came out here because I was going to walk home." But then, of course, it was wet and rainy. "I can take care of myself," he then added after a pause, words meant to be an assurance that he wasn't just a little kid. Even if he kind of was.

And then the other child cut in once more, and Lyell couldn't help the smile that blossomed upon his features. Enthusiasm, excitement, a hurried need to do rather than just think about it... yes, he could work with that. "I do hope it rains again..." he mused aloud. After all, what would happen to the plants if it didn't? Oh, that wouldn't be any good. Lyell spared a glance out to where Nes had come from, to the puddles that were scattered about.

Nes's suggestion earned another smile, Lyell's gave moving to the older male and blinking curiously up at him. "Wouldn't that work?"

Anthony nodded as the boy narrated his day's story. "Well, as long as your mom doesn't worry about you." He said, not wanting to question the boy's freedom from his parents and his mother's way of taking care of the boy. Anthony, being a dad, didn't want to leave Nes. But it's not out of if Nes would get hurt... it was because he was scared that Nes might harm someone else and get himself into something he can't get out of.

After hearing Lyell seem to want to splash with him, his eyes glittered with anticipation. "Please, please, please, please, please?" He said as he pleaded his dad. Not wanting to disappoint, he sighed and agreed, but with a few conditions. "Only for 5 minutes. When I say we have to go, we have to go. and if Lyell gets sick, you have to take responsibility for it." He said sternly to his son.

"okay, okay!" He said as he seemed to have tuned out after his dad agreed to letting them play. He put his umbrella on the ground and took off the rain coat quickly. He wanted the most out of the five minutes he had. "Here!" He said as he handed the rain coat to Lyell. "It'll keep you dry!" He said with a happy smile on his face.

Lyell slid off the bench he sat on, stretching slowly once back up on his feet. He briefly wondered at the time and how long he'd been sitting there, but decided it was irrelevant, really. It wasn't like knowing the time would tell him if Mari would be done within the next five minutes.

A smile came to Lyell's own lips as he fussed with putting on the offered raincoat. "Thanks!" he chirped pleasantly as the material set in place to protext him from the rain. Bright eyes spared a moment to look out at the lot.

((xD Anthony's warning makes me think of a father giving up his daughter or something, all "TAKE RESPONSIBILITY"
x__X Sorry it's so short. Brain shorted out.))

Nes, not wasting any time, grabbed his umbrella and dashed out into the puddles that sat on the sidewalk and nearby area while his dad closed his umbrella, shook it a little and took a seat on the bench that Lyell had sat on before he went to put the raincoat on. "Remember, only 5 minutes!" He said. but what he really meant was so long that they got bored or until it was almost time for Lyell's mom to come out. He felt a little guilty for letting a young boy sit out here alone and just walking off.

With a push of his legs, Nes jumped from where he stood into a clear puddle on the sidewalk made by the dripping water from the roof to the ground. "Come on!" Nes said as he landed inside of the puddle. He smiled towards Lyell as he didn't even think that the umbrella only protected him from the falling rain and not the ones on the ground. His shoes were already soaked from ankle to toe as he stood in the puddle of rain. "There's large puddles there, Lyell!" He said as he pointed where the pavement blocks sunk in a little, creating a trench filled with water.

Lyell followed Nes away from the bench and the "safety" that had been provided by the awning spanning over the bench. He unconsciously stepped back from the puddle when Nes had jumped in, sending water around himself. Yet this was ironic, seeing as moments later Lyell had joined the other boy, splashing the clear water about as he too jumped into it without hesitation.

Eyes flickering over the pavement as Nes drew his attention to more appealing (and by that he meant bigger and wetter) puddles, Lyell was growing more than enthused by this whole activity as they proceeded to the larger puddles.

Nes didn't normally have anyone to play with him because his dad was always at work or doing work on the computer at home. He had Seraph, which was quite a nice kitty, but he liked sleeping more than playing. So Nes really wanted to play the most when he went out and saw others. he too approached the larger puddles with this other pocky boy by his side. "Do you wanna jump into this one together?" Nes asked Lyell as he pointed to the deep one before them. He offered out a hand for him to hold onto so that they could jump in together. "It'll be fun!" He said with a large smile on his face.

Anthony sat on the bench as he watched the two play, making sure that they didn't play too close to the street or anywhere dangerous. It would be his neck if anything happened to a woman's beloved son.

Ah, at the very least it wouldn't have been a pleasant result. Sure, Mari had left Lyell to his own devices and given him the freedom of choice, but on his own Lyell liked wouldn't have gone frolicking about in the puddles left by the rain.

Left to himself, Lyell was often fine with entertaining and occupying himself with little things. However, this wasn't saying that the boy didn't enjoy being with others, nor that if the opportunity presented himself that he wouldn't leap upon it. And so, as he looked to the deep puddle, a smile spread across the boy's features and he accepted the offered hand. "Sure!" he chirped without hesitation, with no worries of colds or being all wet or whatever else may come of the action.
