"No, this isn't where we live. I came here to get you." The older, fair-haired boy said to the young girl with the wide red eyes. "We live far from here, with a man who loved...loves you, very much." He explained "You may not remember him, but you were very dear to him." Koji concluded. Ani, the girl of the Wilted Rose nodded very softly "I...think I understand." She whispered softly. She looked around, they were heading out of a bustling town, and into a lush green field, with a small prayer temple in front of them.

In that field, attempting to keep from being noticed, was a young man and a small girl. The teen was seated neatly on the grass, a small pad of paper on his lap. He was slowly inking the scene of the prayer temple and field on his paper, the things sitting beside him showed that he'd previously been helping teach the girl her letters.
While the young man didn't know the soul he'd received for his young companion, he had realized one thing. She was foreign. Gui was lively and companionable and listened to him for the most part, but she was from another place. He often had to quiet the girl and explain traditions she did not understand. Quite like a true child in that respect.
He had also noticed that the young one - though truly androgynous - had already decided it seemed on what gender she preferred to lean towards. This made things simpler to him, as Long disliked the idea of referring to what was essentially his child as 'it'.
It was this little girl, that spotted the approaching pair. Since her 'father' did not truly want to be caught drawing by his relatives, and the child did not wish to learn any more today, the teen had told her to keep watch. As such, in her dancing about the field, Gui instantly spotted Ani and Koji, shaking Long's shoulder to alert him before heading over to greet the pair.
Bowing politely, the little girl hoped to be both a distraction so her parent could hide his things, and to make a friend. Ani seemed just about her age!

Ani blinked as the young...she was guessing girl, since where she lived, and in this area, it seemed a boy could look like a girl, and still be a boy, ran up to her. Ani smiled and watched Koji, who bowed, and then she bowed herself, speaking in a soft whisper "H...Hello." She said, tucking a loose strand of bright red hair behind her ear.
Koji was more interested in the person behind the young one who had just made herself known to them. He seemed to be packing and hiding things, in a sloppy manner too. From where he stood, he could see drawings, and symbols, Chinese he recognized. He turned his attention back to the young girl and bowed once again "Hello young lady. You seem very full of energy.." He raised an eyebrow as he caught a soft smell, but distinct. It was sugar...but thick, musky. And it seemed to envelope the girl like it was part of her body. Much like how Ani was...
Ani was looking over the girl, the lotus mark catching her eye. She had a similar one, on her stomach, above her navel. Was she like her? Were they related? She leaned in close and twitched her nose a bit "Are you...like me...?" She asked, wondering if she was, and if so, were there more?

Gui stared for a few moments, blinking. "Like...you?" Had she misunderstood the language? However, with Ani leaning so close, the other child could take in the smell of...rose? Something close to that at least. She knew that scent from Long's mother's garden.
"You...a scent you possess." Gui cocked her head to the side as she attempted to say she had noticed the rosey odor lingering around the other girl. Her language was a bit broken, formal words and improper use of the grammar showing she hadn't quite learned to speak Chinese properly yet. "Possess dissimilar one I do."
Long, by this point, had managed to pack his things and hurried over to try and save his 'child' from embarrassment. "Ah, good day." the teen said hastily, bowing to Koji and Ani.

Ani nodded, smiling. "Like me. We're...different. I'm not like Koji...I'm...different" She said, lowering her voice just a bit. Koji rubbed her back, smiling slightly. Koji looked towards Long and smiled.
"A pleasure to meet you. My name is Koji." He said, bowing slightly "I didn't expect to see someone else out here." He said "But I'm not complaining. I enjoy new company." he continued. He looked to Ani and Gui "And Ani could use a new friend." He pointed out, smiling at the two young ones.

"Different. Like you." Gui agreed, whispering too since that's what Ani was doing. It made sense to follow the other's lead, even if she was having a bit of trouble understanding her.
"The same to you, my name is Long." the young man replied, nodding, "Yes, I admit I hadn't expected anyone to head this way either, though it is nice to see you both. Gui is not very used to other people just yet, I'm afraid."

Ani had been taught Chinese by Koji, since she was like a blank slate, and she seemed to soak it up. But it would be more of a hassle to learn the two other languages she knew in previous life. Though, she had no idea of the life ahead of her. She was blissfully unaware. Ani's smile returned, and she spoke up. "My name is Ani. What is yours? I would feel foolish not to know my new friend's name." She stated, with a 'matter-of-fact' tone.
Koji laughed softly "They seem to be getting along. I'm glad for that. For both of them. Gui seems very innocent, and unsure of the world. I wish Ani was more the same. She's learning new things so fast...and sometimes, she doesn't learn the whole story behind everything..." He rubbed his temples, almost looking like he was trying to get rid of a bad memory of a foolish thing Ani did.

Gui's eyes were bright as she was referred to as a friend. That was a word she knew! Friends were good, and they were close to you! "I am Gui. We are friends, now, Ani?" she seemed very excited by this prospect, taking the other child's hands as she spoke and grinning widely.
Long chuckled quietly, shaking his head as he did, long dark braid moving behind him as he did. "Gui gets along rather easily with others. But I do believe her exuberance frightens many people. And she does not learn very quickly at all - I am not sure if I am glad for this or not."

"Yes. Good friends!" Ani said, smiling at Gui, wiggling around, stamping her feet in excitement. She was so happy to have someone she could talk to now. She was making friends quickly, and Gui seemed like Ani herself, easily excitable, and sweet. "What is your favorite color Gui?!" She asked hurriedly, smiling more and more.
Koji nodded in agreement. "Ani is the same. She instantly rushes to people and wants to know EVERYTHING about them. It's cute, but I'm so worried about the trouble she'll get herself into." He said, biting his lip, looking at Ani, forcing a smile for her sake.
