It was a clear, crisp autumn morning and the wind made Kaibab’s nose tingle pleasantly as she strode along the woodland path. Pale sunlight shone through the branches of the trees spotlighting falling leaves as they danced in the breeze. It was a fine morning to go looking for apples.
The familiar trail to her favorite tree of wild apples was still wet from the previous day's rain. Suddenly, a rodent burst from the undergrowth and skittered off down the path ahead of her. Kaibab halted, her blue ears flicking this way and that, trying to discover what might have startled the small animal.
The spotted blue Adahy didn't expect to encounter any predators in this area of the woods, but it was never wise to let your guard down. Satisfied for the moment that there was no threat, she hurried on to find her apples.

Just like the nearby female, Muad'Dib knew that it was the perfect day to go out looking for food. He'd been spending a lot of time foraging for fruits and vegetables lately so he thought it was time to look for something with a little more... substance. Not knowing that Kaibab was nearby he careful scouted his prey, a reasonable sized rodent, and after a bit of stalking he went for it. The smaller animal's reflexes bested his own unfortunately and it fled, bursting out of the brush near to the female. With a growl Muad'Dib followed, scattering the bushes and undergrowth around him as he exploded out onto the path and almost hit the wandering female. Luckily he caught himself at the last minute and went skidding into another bush as he avoided a collision. Muad'Dib growled, not out of aggression but sheer frustration, as his meal fled and he was left in a pile of leaves... looking rather foolish in front of the opposite sex! He didn't say much in his annoyance, but just enough to not ignore her, "Sorry.." He was a little huffy, but mostly because his hunger was overwhelming his reason.

Kaibab had barely convinced herself that all was safe when the bushes exploded and a dark-colored Adahy burst past her and crashed into the bushes on the other side of the trail. She was torn between fleeing the unknown intruder or satisfying her curiosity of who now lay topsy turvy in the bushes.
His gruff apology didn't do much to allay her fears, but her caring nature wondered if he might be hurt. Kaibab took a few tentative steps forward. "Are you okay?"

Muad'Dib straightened himself, trying to regain the smallest bit of dignity, and fluffed his colorful feathers out as he stood. before he answered, he looked over the female in front of him. She was colorful and seemed as if she would be no threat to him. He was a rather grumpy and solitary sort.
"Yes.. yes.." His voice was very deep and gravelly, "Still hungry but physically intact." He couldn't same the same for his wounded pride. If he was someone concerned with first impressions, he was sure that was a bad one.
"I hope you aren't looking for meat because it just went that way." He flashed his golden eyes down the path which his meal had fled. "I suppose its another fruits and vegetables day.." The last comment was said in more of a frustrated grumble.

Kaibab wasn't sure what to make of the stranger. He seemed a little rough around the edges, but she didn't feel threatened by him. Her curiosity was starting to get the better of her.
"I don't care much for rabbit myself," she said. "I like fish now and then though." After the words were out of her mouth, Kaibab felt a bit lame. This male certainly had no interest in her preferences of meat when his dinner had just eluded him. "But I could show you where to find wild apples. They're at their best flavor now."
The teal-colored Adahy tipped her ears forward and tilted her head, wondering if the male would accept her offer. She was willing to show him where to find the wild apples, though she'd keep her favorite tree a secret.

"Uhh.." Muad'Dib looked around and tried to think. He was starving but the inner hermit told him to just make up an excuse to get away and find his own food. Of course his male instinct was also strong, and that told him to go with a pretty lady whenever she invited you anywhere.
"Sure.." He attempted to not grumble quite so much and even fluffed out his sunset colored feathers one more time. "Maybe.." should he? "Maybe I can show you a good fishing hole.. later I mean."
Since he'd already decided to go with her, Muad'Dib's mood shifted ever so subtly from grumpy hermit to grumpy gentleman. He dipped his head and nodded forward on the path.
"Lead the way, m'lady." His tone was still gravelly but at least the words were nicer!

Kaibab was still a little unsure about how much to trust this male. He seemed polite enough despite his stand-offish manner. Well, she did offer to show him the way to food and it was getting later by the minute. She dared not dally too much. With a quick glance at the shadows to determine how much daylight was left, she started down the wooded trail.
"It's this way," she said, walking past the dark Adahy. Passing close to him, Kaibab took in his scent. Something about him intrigued her. She kept an eye on him now more out of a deeper curiosity than the wariness of a stranger.
"Your rabbit went this way too," she added. "Maybe we'll find him." With a backward glance, she said, "I'll help you catch him, if we do."

Of course the best part about walking behind a female was the pleasant view. Muad'Dib enjoyed it, without being too obvious. Mentally he slapped himself for being so led on by his base instincts. Sure, maybe if he interacted with other more often he wouldn't have as much of an issue.
He decided to distract himself, looking up at the waning daylight.
"I thank you." He replied to her offer of assistance. "I prefer to hunt at dusk. In fact I am usually sleeping through the day. I find it warmer." And less likely to run into people.
He paused, just for a second, to get in a good stretch and yawn, before jogging back up behind Kaibab.
"My name is Muad'Dib, by the way." He had just realized that no introductions were made. His strange name sounded lovely with his own gravelly voice. "Mahdi or Dib for short. May I ask yours?"

She called back her name, "Kaibab", in response to his question. Stealing a glance back, she didn't miss his interest in her rear view. Her feathers fluffed in response and she walked a little taller. Now why did she do that, she wondered to herself.
"I don't like the dusk. It's too close to nightfall. Many, many strange things come out at night." While the blue Adahy spoke, she seemed to be on the lookout for things around her.
Bringing her eyes back to the trail, she announced, "The grove is just around this bend."

"As long as the treaties stay valued, there is nothing too dangerous." Of course he meant the treaty with the Di'taki. It was one of the only subjects on which he had a strong opinion and was driven to act on.
"The best part about night time is the stars. They are very pretty.. If you ever just come out to look at them." He walked a little faster as they rounded the bend. Something about how he talked about the stars sounded somewhat like an invitation. "Winter reveals the clearest of skies, very crisp. But my favorite are summer nights. Chasing the lunar moths.." He chuckled deeply. It was the most he'd said to anyone in a long time.
Mahdi's golden eyes peered ahead of them, his nose picking up the scents of the grove before his eyes could find it.
"Smells lovely." He was next to her now. Did he mean the trees.. or her?
