what do you think is needed for one to continue with their lives?
what keeps you going every day you get out of bed?
how easily do you think this can be lost?
have you ever lost them?
if so, how did you get them back?
honestly, i think you need determination and optimism, maybe hope, too. at least one.
i suppose, really, you could be determined, hope to die, so do those count? who knows.
i think if you feel that way, you should also be willing - willing to listen, change.
with someone very close to me feeling like they want to die, i have been considering this very recently.

That's a very difficult bunch of questions to answer, and I think everyone considers them differently. For me the thing that keeps me most active and able to face the day is having dreams of possible futures, and really believing that it is possible to realize them. When I think that I might not accomplish what it is I want to accomplish, that's when I feel my worst and spend days straight in bed.
I have a lot of friends who have been or are suicidal, and all of them are so for different reasons. Some feel useless, or hate themselves, others think that they are stuck in a corner and can't escape their situation. I think the best thing that I or anyone else can do is accept that side of them, tell them you'll be there for them anyway, that you don't want to see them die but the choice is an intensely personal one.
We all keep living for different reasons. Sometimes it can be very hard to find that reason, but it helps to know that there are people who care about you and want to see you working towards happiness.

it is different for everyone and i know that, that's why i asked, silly. smile
very interesting answer, though.
heh, it seems it's a combination of all those in this situation. with him, it's really hard for me to understand where he's coming from, having an overall positive outlook on life and i don't think i can accept him for having something different. as ridiculous as that sounds, i think if he really wanted it, he could think of things more positively and try to help himself out of this mess. although he doesn't really want to get out of it, i suppose. i just want him to so badly and i'm trying to ??? word (i'm making these forward shoulder motions, if that helps) it onto him. it's a very difficult situation.

Yeah, the worst part about depression is that it feeds on itself. The more depressed you are, the less you want to be better. Good luck, and I hope he gets better.

Growing old doesn't scare me.
I'm willfully ignorant. I don't read the news. Some people think that is unforgivable.
But it lets me stay happy.
I am very positive.
I was very sad at one time, but time passed and I got over it.
I truly enjoy life.
And I get mad at my friends who say "life is terrible, life is pain, woe is me, the best days of my life are passed." I get pissed.

it's not getting old that scares me but what i'm going to be doing, really. it doesn't bother me otherwise.
i am usually the same way but now things are just s**t. hopefully this will all be resolved soon.
