What I usually do is just write whatever comes to mind and then work with what I have because if I try to change things around I never get anywhere as whatever comes to mind I first write then change it around later sometimes if i dont think about it too much then things just naturally happen.

The advice depends on your style...
You could:
Shift a lot of your explanation into dialogue and pepper that with action Try to make it a mystery by purposefully cutting out certain information Write characters' opinions about certain objects as they use them/think about them
As a general rule, I tend to not describe something until it comes into play. Information dumps are never fun, so I try to let a lot of info come out in dialogue or even in the action scenes. I hope that helps!

I agree with Alanora, the thing I usually do when writing anything is just put myself in the place of whoever is narrating so I can write better. Have you ever done that?

Actually, the only way I can write a decent story is 1st person, and mainly fantasy.
