Hello band peeps!! This is the thread of where to share your beloved band traditions!! The craziest, the funniest, the coolest, it all wants to be heard! ^-^
For our band, we do this tradition called the Ice Cream and Cake Dance. Its this song kind of like PPJ Time. The lyrics go "Ice Cream and Cake and cake, ice cream and cake and cake. x2. Ice cream and cake do the ice cream and cake x4. Now slip slip slip slide slip slip slip and slide slip slip slip slide STOP! Hold up--tag team!" And we do this dance to it and it's so much fun!!
Also we have this think we do called Chiquita Banana. It goes like:
Drum Majors: CHIQUITA!!
Band: BANANA!!
(same thing again)
Together: Bananas UNITE!! (clap hands over head)
Everyone: You peel it to the left and you peel it to the right (bring arms down like a banana peeling). You peel it down the middle (act it out) and om! Take a bite!
(then the band goes bananas for four 4/4 measures)
Everyone: BANANAS BANANAS UNITE!! HOOH!

We did the bananas thing too before they told Mr. Hodge ((band director)) it was inappropriate.
Traditions....hmmm. I got it.
Our band director began a game he does every year...I can't remember what it's called at the moment.
He plays music, 2 people are standing up playing the game, 1 person is spinning...the teacher tosses a quarter, calls heads or tails and what he calls and the person closest moves on to the next round.
That's a bit confusing, but it's hard to explain.
Also, before our first marching competition, we listen to this sort of music...I can't remember what it's called.

Our marching band has skit night at camp, and its traditional to do "Slogan in my pants" to every new bandee.
You have to say a slogad, like "I'M lovin it," and then add "in my pants." But when they first say the slogan, they dont know there gonna have to add in my pants.

I figured out what that game we do with the quarter again...if only I can spell it!
I'll ask i n s t a n t mistake again today and re-re-remind her to get her posting done for the tek-tek contest.

We do skit night every year, we do the bananas song, and our newbie boys have to wear dresses and compete in the Miss Band Camp Pageant and the winner gets to say screw seniority and be first in line for food the next day.

We have 2 in my band
1) Fun fests- they sound awesome but they are really playing tests. The fun thing though are the tie breakers. People*cough*trumpets*cough* wil sometimes try to beat each other up over 1st chair and then make the loser bow down.
2) We used to only have 9 people in my band since i was in year round school and the schedule was wacked up. We would be playing when suddenly the director would stop to ask us something like our favorite donut or tell us a story. it was so much fun

Before we go on the marching field, the flutes do a song called the Piccolo song, and the seniors stand in the center of the circle while we hold our flutes out and bob them up and down in time.
P I C C O L O
Thats the way we spell piccolo, piccolo
Lets go piccolo!
Then the oldest piccolo squiggles the backs of all the flutes.
Also, during concert season, we have Krazy Tuesday. We are allowed to sit anywhere we want to, and it definitely switches it up for us.

Halloween day (: Our eldest Tuba player ALWAYS dresses as Hitler to make fun of our drum majors; because they are like hitler during summer because we are a competition band ;~;
Then one guy, dresses as batman (he has a replica of everything, including the little bat boomerangs, those things are so sharp .-. )
We also do the massage line [:
We don't do a lot of funny stuff, because we have to work a lot talk2hand
