User Image Welcome to the Gardens User Image

You find yourself in a most magnificent garden, there are hedge mazes, ponds, beautiful ornate fountains, rows of flowers of all kinds line the paths and here and there are areas of wide open green scattered with the odd buttercup and clover. However as you begin to walk you notice something is different about this garden. The autumn trees sway gently blowing leaves to the pavement yet the cherry trees are in full blossom. The sun is bright and at a nice temperature but two seasons can’t happen at once can they? The garden holds yet more wonder still as you come to an archway covered in ivy. As you look through it you can see clearly it’s not the garden on the other side but in fact a small room, you move on to explore some thing that looks like another portal and peak through it. It’s not even Gaia! Beyond is a world of wonder and mystery that you have never seen before. Magic has happened here and a strong magic you can tell, it thrums through everything living; wait behind you! The path you came down has vanished and a crystal is in front of you, what a fantastic place indeed! User ImageThe garden you have entered is the guilds magical garden and was created with every race’s magic present. This clash of so many different magic produced wonders beyond measure! It has actually split the very fabric of space and time, creating little portals all over the garden and also some really nice tasting carrots!

User ImageBeginners Guide to Role PlayUser Image

If you are new to Role Play and want to give it a try or just need a refresh on the etiquette of RPing online then have a look at this guide.

Handy Hints Q+A:

Q: What is the talking in brackets all about?
A: The use of ( ) is mainly for OOC chat such as apologizing for going away for a while or making comments as yourself on the role play. Using brackets helps keep things running smoothly so that no one confuses your RL thoughts with that of your characters.
[e.g: Selene walked around the room a little bored (sorry my post is so late I had a lot of house work today)]

Q: Why are people putting actions in ** sometimes?
A: In light/semi RP/non text heavy RP These symbols ** can be used to indicate what your character is doing, this is often used when the main text is your character talking and when actions are minimal, again its to lessen confusion.
[e.g: Take that you villain! *Throws a table at your head* Haha!]

Q: People bold or change their text colour when their character is speaking, why?
A: In description heavy role play this can really help lessen confusion and may make what their character is saying easier to read (if it is hard to read leave them an OOC note and ask them nicely to change colour) it helps to do this or at least leave spaces between the story and the speech so that people know what is what.
[e.g: Mal sat on a log and let out a heavy sigh "why is it always me?" He asked to no one in particular]

User ImageQ: The role play asks for dice rolls what on earth am I doing?
A: Gaia has a handy feature to aid RP, when you make a post there is a post action box, this lets you choose the right dice and the right number to roll! It can make a role play even more interesting when you use dice for combat and such!

Q: What is a walk-in RP and how is it different to the ones you have to sign up for?
A: A walk-in RP is more causal, you can come and go when you like and its good for beginners since if you don't like your character you can normally leave and come back as someone new. Also as long as you don't overly break the flow of whats going on you can dip in and out as you please.
RPs that you have to sign up for will require your commitment as typically you are needed to post so that the story can progress. They will also require more detailed character info such as a back story and maybe a spell list or attack list.
Both are very fun to play but its really down to personal preference as to which you like best.

Building Character:
Different RPs will require different details about the character you are playing as. Some may want really in depth sign up sheets or some may be walk-ins where you can play any character(s) you want. However it always helps to really get to know who you are playing, what do they like/dislike how do they think/feel/react to things. Take a while to consider their personality when you build your character and you will find it easier to play as them and have a lot more fun too.

God-Modding / Mary Sue: What it is and why its NOT OK to do it:
It is against the subforum rules but why you may ask and what actually is 'God-Modding' anyway? Basically this boils down to being overly powered or not taking your hits. If everyone is human and has a couple strengths and some flaws it is not cool to play a thousand year old vampire lord that can kill everyone with a click of its fingers... this is because aside from being very annoying, it kills the fun for everyone else playing by the rules. Likewise if you are in a duel or a fight posting things like 'I don't take that hit because I am a god and I can doge everything, even bullets' is extremely unfair and kills the fun for other people, it also makes you look bad. So please avoid things like this, be sensible and polite about fighting, take your hits and people will respect you for being a good role player!

If you ever do need help with role-playing you can always ask someone more experienced as they are normally happy to help.
