Jaws snapped together as flies seemed to attack his eyes and face. What did he ever do to them?!

"Noooo," he whined, lowering his upper half and attempting to shield his face with his paws. It seemed to be of no use, however, as his legs proved too spindly to completely hide himself from the insects' attacks. The male whined some more before jumping back up onto his paws. He continued to snap as he began swatting at them with his paws. But alas! They were far too quick for him, and would always move themselves from his attack range before he had even gotten halfway through his motions. It was amazing to see how something so small and insignificant could move so quickly and be such an efficient attacker.

"Leave me alone!"

Did he smell? The wolf sniffed, but was rewarded with a fly zipping up into his nostril. Immediately, Tor sneezed and laid his ears flat. It appeared as if he were fighting a losing battle, and he would have to make a respectful retreat.

After eyeing the flies and assuring himself that they suspected nothing, the brown and black wolf darted to his left and ran as fast as his long legs could carry him. "Can't catch me!" he cried back at the flies, who, in his mind, were giving chase after their quarry. It didn't occur to him that flies had nothing in the way of brains and wouldn't care if some wolf left their presence or not. But to Tor it was a fantastic game, one that he was now winning.

Yet his victory would be short lived as he tripped over a protruding tree root, tumbling head over paws before finally landing in a dusty heap of fur and limbs. He groaned, simply laying there.

"Flies win," he mumbled.

It was quite some time since Keara had seen another wolf, but when she caught the scent of another, she couldn't help but be very excited~ Her naive nature kept her thinking the best of every wolf.

She listened quietly and heard the wolf fighting with flies. It made her giggle a little and she trot out once the wolf hit the ground. "You let yourself be beaten by flies~? That's so silly. "Let me help!"

The femme moved close and tried to attack the flies that rather seemed to like the other, biting and pawing at them, but managing not to hurt the other. The last thing she wanted to do to get in trouble, or make the other wolf hurt her. She laughed a little as she caught a fly.

"They don't taste very good." Her tail wagged a little, trying to scrape the taste off her tongue with her teeth, plopping down onto her butt in front of the other.

"My name's Keara."

Tor hadn't even noticed the presence of the other wolf until he had fallen over and she had chosen to reveal herself. He felt rather stupid, making a fool of himself like that in front of such a pretty female, but his short attention span soon let him forget all about the embarrassment.

"The flies are quick!" he spoke earnestly, attempting to explain himself. He felt as if he were being scolded by his mother, but he had honestly tried his best to win against them. There had just been too many and they were all too speedy for his rather slow reflexes to follow. Yet he was grateful when the other wolf began snapping at the flies, and was impressed when she managed to catch one within her jaws. He wondered how she could have caught one, and thought that she must be a very skilled wolf indeed.

The brown male thumped his tail against the ground as his tongue lolled out of the side of his mouth. "Could you teach me to do that?" he asked, despite Keara saying that they weren't tasty.

As she introduced herself, however, he forgot all about the flies in his flurry to remember his manners. Tor scrambled to stand upon his paws, before bowing slightly before her. His father had always told him that ladies should be treated with respect and chivalry, and so he made it his mission to be polite to any and every female that happened to cross his path.

"Nice to meet you, Keara! I'm Tor," he replied, holding his head somewhat high. His mother had told him that his name meant something good, but at the moment he couldn't remember exactly what.

"What brings you here?"

"Tor." She repeated before bouncing around a little bit, nodding her head. Keara was never one to act her age when she didn't have to, she was glad that this male seemed to be like her. They could have a lot of fun. "I wonder by myself all the time.. I was looking to make friends with someone. Anyone." The female gave a shy smile, showing that she had been lonely for quite some time.

"Catching flies? It's not that hard.. You just have to practice. Flies are really dumb." She giggled at that, nodding her head a few times and, "Move your mouth and close around them. Pretend you're fishing and you have to catch a fish fast."

Her head nodded a few times, tail still wagging about behind her. She was thrilled to have someone to talk to, especially someone as nice as Thor. This was definatly something she had needed for quite some time.

"You don't smell bad though, why are the flies picking on you?" She looked very curious, sniffing a little at the other. "You actually smell really good~" Her tail wagged even more at that, her tone holding a distinct innocence.

The male's tail thumped the ground a few times as the wolfess repeated his name. He didn't know why, but he always seemed to grow happy when his name was spoken. It stirred some sort of childish excitement within him, and he couldn't help but wiggle a little. He almost yipped, but managed to hold himself back. He figured she would think he was a little weird for responding to his name in such a way, and he didn't want to feel embarrassed.

"All by yourself?" he questioned, tilting his head slightly. He wasn't sexist, but he just always felt that females should have someone around to protect them in case something went wrong. He knew that he would do anything to protect his sisters and mother, and would never forgive himself if any harm came to them. "Don't you ever get scared being away from your family?" Tor would never admit to being scared, as he was manly and wasn't supposed to feel fear, but he admitted that he got rather lonely on his travels.

Watching Keara, he tried to take in everything she was saying and doing in order to learn how to catch flies. The buggers often bothered him, and he wanted to be able to rid himself of them.

"Oh, but I've never fished," he spoke, looking rather ashamed. What sort of wolf didn't know how to fish? But the truth was that he simply didn't have to. His mother still treated him like her little baby and did anything and everything for him. He felt rather bad about it, having his mother running around like that for him, but he couldn't really get her to stop. All of her kids were grown now, and she needed someone to dote on.

When asked why the flies chose to pick on him, he honestly didn't have an answer. And when she told him that he smelled good, he looked at her quizzically. He hadn't really taken the time to sniff himself, but he didn't think he had a really distinct smell. He glanced at his paws, before lowering his nose to take a whiff. Nothing. He couldn't smell himself, and so became rather confused.

"I do?"

Keara tilted her head back at him, before nodding it and giving a big grin. "A good smell, it's nice." Her tail wagging picked up a little, eyes glowing brightly at him. It was hard not to be excited, Tor seemed really nice and he was spending time talking to her.

"Yeah, all by myself." She admited softly, her ears lowering to show she was lonely, and that he managed to figure that out fast. "I'm.. not really scared, but it's just.. difficult."

She decided to change the subject back to something positive.

He didn't know how to fish? She giggled a little and shook her head. "I can fish.. sometimes. Sometimes I just get too excited and I move too much. Being calm has been rather difficult for me at times.." It didn't matter that she was fully grown, it was her heart that was truly young.

"We should go fishing together sometime! It would be so much fun." This was assuming that she would see him again. If she was allowed, she would pause her travels to get to know this friend better. Finally having one.. it just meant the world to her. Hopefully he didn't find her annoying like everyone else did. It made her a bit more nervous, even more on edge. And slightly loud.

"The fishies are some times really cute, though, so I feel bad eating them." Though she felt that way about many animals. Not exactly a tough wolf, but that's just the life that Keara lived.

"Well, then," the wolf spoke, his tail wagging a little quicker, "thank you!" He had never been told before that he smelled good. His mother was constantly grooming him, so he had originally thought that he was always smelly. But Keara seemed to think that his scent was a good one, and that boosted his confidence somewhat.

But his mood quickly changed as she seemed to grow slightly sad talking about being all alone. Tor whined, feeling sorry that he had brought it up and even commented about it. He didn't really know what she was going through, as he had a huge family that was seemingly everywhere. Even if he managed to sneak off on his own and do some exploring, he always wound up running into one of his siblings. There were quite a few of them, after all. Three litters his mother had had, and none of them very small.

The brown wolf was about to offer his assistance, but she had changed the subject already. He found himself being able to relate with her on that, at least, as he often couldn't find the patience to sit still for very long. His mother had always chuckled, saying it was his puppy personality shining through.

"I can't really sit still either," he spoke, shifting his position to prove his point. His siblings often got annoyed with him because of it, but he hoped that this female might remain a little more accepting. She was, after all, more like him than any of his siblings had ever proven to be. They all seemed to be general fighters or leaders. Big, strong wolves, smart and quick on their paws. But not Tor. He had remained close to home because he feared he wouldn't be able to fend for himself if he were to strike out on his own.

"Cute?" he questioned, tilting his head once more. "I don't know if I've ever really looked at a fish closely," he admitted. He never really thought to look into the faces of his prey. But, then again, that was probably for the best. "Well there are other things to eat. It's not like you have to eat only fish, right?" He had heard of wolves that ate only certain prey, and wondered vaguely if she was one of those wolves.

It seemed like her tail would never stop wagging, Tor just had that affect on her. He was genuinly very nice to her, there were very few wolves that were nice when there was no benifit from it.

"Next time you should." She nodded knowingly, as though she was an expert on the subject. "Fish are really cute, But you're right. I don't eat just fish. It's hard, though! I try to only eat adult-ugly animals. I don't wanna eat the babies!"

Her father, Haku, would be a bit confused by this. Most wolves were. It was all about getting any prey possible, usually the young were slow and sweet. But once you looked into their eyes, they would guilt you so much! It would make her stomach bubble in a weird way.

She was a strange one. Maybe that's why she didn't have friends?

But she did now, Tor was a new wolf that she wanted to spend some time playing with.

"Do you hunt on your own a lot?"

Tor never really thought about situations in the measurement of what would benefit him and what wouldn't. To him, life was just something meant to be lived, and if he went through life calculating then he wouldn't ever be able to relax and simply enjoy the finer things in life. Like meeting someone new, even if they weren't what one might call "normal" by general standards.

He nodded his head, although questioned himself about whether he would actually want to look at the fish in the face. If they really were cute, as Keara claimed them to be, he wasn't sure he could ever bring himself to eat them ever again. And, if that was the case, he worried horribly that he might starve because he'd have something against eating cute things. But he didn't want to make her sad by disregarding her suggestion, so he nodded enthusiastically and smiled broadly. "I'll try to remember to do so!" And it was true, when he had said that he would try to remember. He found that he often forgot even the simplest of things, so he would have to work to remember this.

"Oh!" he cried, as she talked about eating babies. He normally ate whatever his parents brought back, but he had to admit that there was a certain line he wouldn't cross when it came to food. Sometimes his parents brought back something that looked rather young and robust, and he had a hard time tearing into the flesh. Was that the same feeling Keara got?

When asked if he hunted a lot, Tor looked down at his paws quickly, embarrassed by the question. Most made fun of him when he told them that he still lived with his parents and depended upon them for everything. He didn't understand what was so wrong with it, but he supposed it was just that he was expected, at his age, to be able to live on his own. But he loved his mother, and his father of course, and couldn't stand to make them sad simply because others thought he should be alone.

"Well," he spoke, dragging it out, "Not really. My mom and dad usually get stuff for me." He looked up at her cautiously, wondering if she would have the same reaction as other wolves.

When the male wolf agreed to remember her suggestion, her tail wagged so much she swore her butt was wiggling a bit too. Even if he never did it, he was really listening to her and thinking about what she was saying! It was tempting to let out a cute little bark, but she didn't. It was a pup-like feeling, though.

When he gave off the cry about the babies, she nodded once more and calmed herself a little. It was a tragic subject, really.. eating babies was just hard for her. At least he seemed to agree.

The instant he got sheepish, she tilted her head and looked very curious. Her ears twitched as she heard what he said, and she wagged her tail slowly at the words. "Really? I remember when my Papa would hunt for me.. No one could ever hunt like him. He brought home the best game in the whole lands!" It was obvious she admired him, it showed through her eyes.

"I think it's really cool that your Mama and Papa get stuff for you. I bet they're really good at hunting! Sometimes it's hard to compare with parents, they just know what they're doing so easily." Another nod was given, rapid and happy.

"Plus, sometimes I swear I get sooooo hungry that I wouldn't be able to -move-! It's so hard to hunt alone then."

Tor was encouraged by the female's response to him and his words. Never before had anyone been so accepting of him. Normally, they used a mean tone of voice and looked at him strangely. More often than not, they simply chose to walk away because they just couldn't comprehend him and the way he saw the world. Yet Keara was the closest to his mindset than anyone else, and he was relieved to know that he wasn't alone in the world. He had a friend, someone who could relate to him, and it made him feel more secure.

Even more comforting was the fact that her father had hunted for her also. It made him wonder where her father was now, since she spoke of him in the past tense, but he didn't want to pry too much into her private life. Something terrible might have happened, so he didn't want to risk bringing up painful memories.

"My parents, too!" he spoke excitedly. "I don't know how they do it, but they know just how to pick the best tasting meat!" He was astonished and intrigued, always wanting to learn whatever tricks his parents had up their sleeves. But he had always been too embarrassed to ask, wondering if he should have been able to instinctively know how to hunt. All of his siblings knew how to do it, so why didn't he? Perhaps it would come to him in time. But, meanwhile, he had his parents to fall back on.

"They are really good," he replied, obviously very proud of them. They had successfully raised three litters, a total of twelve pups, and they seemed to always have enough energy to pick out the best game in the herd. He could also relate to her feeling of not being able to move when she was hungry. He took after his father and brother in that he seemed to hold quite a bit of weight around his belly. Round and sometimes rather lazy, his stomach always seemed to be gurgling for a meal. It was never satisfied!

Chuckling, he nodded with boundless energy. "I know what you mean! Sometimes I don't even want to get up, I just want the meat to come to me!" And, oftentimes, it did. His parents were magical like that.

"It's good that you have help," he nodded, tail tapping the ground with new enthusiasm.

When she heard Tor speak excitedly about his parents, she wiggled a little in her spot. Another thing the two of them had in common, seeing their parents as amazing beings that accomplished unreal goals.

Their energy seemed to bounce off one another, growing in a positive way that made her rather content, perhaps he felt just as happy! "Yeah!" She chirped in agreement, her tail going a mile a minute to show how content she was. "I would love if I could get someone to hunt for me more often. It would be nice to wake up from a nap and have fresh meat." She laughed a little and shook her head.

She wasn't a bad hunter, she could catch small game by herself. It would just be nice to relax every once and a while. Unlike the other, she had a small belly, showing that she hadn't had many satisfying meals lately.

The female crawled a little closer, nudging at him with her nose in a playful way before rolling over and kicking at him softly. She was just playing around, acting more like she was a pup. She wiggled around a little on her back before turning so that she was laying on her stomach once more, her paws tensing so she could run off to play chase if the other wanted to.

Anything to play.

Tor almost couldn't believe that he had found someone who could have so much in common with him. He had always thought that he was unique in the strangest way, and that he would never be able to find anyone that could relate to him. His parents understood his somewhat strange behaviors, but they could never really relate. He hadn't minded so much, as they accepted him for him and didn't bother him like the other wolves did. But with this female he could be himself and he didn't have to worry about being judged.

"Isn't that just the best, though?" he laughed, swaying side to side with the rising excitement radiating between the two. He could sense her growing more and more happy, which in turn made him even happier. He hadn't ever really had a positive impact on the lives of others, and it was a nice change of pace.

"I know it always makes me happy when I wake up or come back from a walk and my parents have food waiting for me. I wonder if maybe they know I'm coming, since they almost never fail to bring me food when my belly starts grumbling!" Unlike Keara, Tor couldn't even catch small game most of the time. He was rather uncoordinated and clumsy, and much too loud to be any sort of talented stealth hunter. Oftentimes he tripped over his own paws or stepped on a twig that alerted his prey to his presence. Perhaps he just needed more practice, but for the time being he was unable to successfully obtain a meal on his own.

As the female scooted closer and rolled over, pawing at him, he admitted that he was rather surprised. He hadn't expected that, but his tail immediately began wagging as he attempted to catch her paws with his mouth. He wouldn't bite hard, but it was instinct to try and n** at them as they were waving around in his face. Unable to catch them, however, he resorted to pawing at her in turn. Then he suddenly leaped upwards and back, his rump raised as his front half lowered in a playful bow.

"You're it!" he called, waiting for her to give chase. How long had it been since he had played tag? Far too long.

Keara swore she was having the best day of her life. When he nipped at her paws, the mix coloured female kicked a bit faster to make it harder for them to catch them. His pawing back at her brought an even larger smile and she have a playful growl.

"Cheater!" Came her call back to him as she took off, moving as quickly as she could after the other. She was giving playful growls, her tail wagging and her eyes glowing with a new found happiness.

Finally, she had someone to play with. Tor seemed just perfect. As soon as she was close enough, the female pounced onto the other and sent the two in a session of growling around in the grass. She bit playfully at the furr around his neck, not doing it hard enough to hurt him. Any time she grabbed a bit of flesh, she gave a playful tug to it.

Finally, she sat atop the other and grinned down at him. "I win!"
