Falsequivalence

I don't know of very many celebrity pagans. I would like to know more besides Sully Erna (who owns, and is the singer for the band Godsmack.) Please list any others you know of. (Oh yeah, PM me if you think Godsmack is good, or if you like my new name better than Uless.)

That's because celebrities are usually Scientologists or supposedly follow Kabbalah.

Fairuza Balk is a Wiccan. I'll see if there are others, but that's the first one off the top of my head.

Some Jewish Mysticism type thing. I'm sure someone here will be able to provide you with a good description, I don't know too much about it.

Yep, Jewish mysticism. I am an outsider to this as a whole, so be prepared for corrections from people who are way more in the know, but...

Very hard to understand, supposedly - Jewish people generally aren't allowed to touch it until they're over 40 and have a really good grounding in Judaism and its teachings as a whole. From what I gather, it's basically a hugely involved series of esoteric teachings that attempt to explain how the immortal and unknowable creator interacts with his rather mortal creations. In coming up with an answer for that one, they'd pretty much get the reason for existence. 3nodding

And the term is also applied to a watered-down, simplified Hollywood version run through an outfit called the Kabbalah Centre that sells celebrities peace of mind through 'special healing Kabbalah water' (at least $1 for a bottle) and red strings they can wear on their wrists for some sort of protective charm. That bottled water, by the way, was at one point sold to cancer sufferers in the UK for 'hundreds of pounds a bottle', under claims it contained cancer curative properties.

Needless to say, I have little to no love for this version of it.

"Explain" is kind of a misnomer sense there is really no way to explain God but rather it offers tools and perspectives on how one can experience God directly. The grounding of one in Judaism is required to fully grasp what the various texts within Jewish Mysticism because without such grounding, study of such texts can lead to understandings which are counter to Judaism or in extreme cases can even drive a person insane.

And that right there is why I made that qualification of 'someone else might be better at this' - thanks, rmcdra!

I like how celebrities also will pay a lot of money for some nice, red string, when really, it's the cheapest of cheap strings.

Theres a great song called "the Christians and the Pagans" by Dar Williams. Its about a family of different religions coming together and getting along. Loreena Mckennitt does alot of Wiccan songs, and charlie Murphy sang "Burning Times", a really sad song about how pagans were killed, and how the earth is "pagan", a mother and a healer, and is being killed slowly.

"the Christians and the Pagans" by Dar Williams, well where to start. First Christmas is not like "the Solstice". Next one does not have to be a Pagan to be a witch. Witchcraft is not a religion, it's a craft. Finally it was Christians that burned for, not pagans.

"Burning Times" by Charlie Murphy, you know Tea dealt with this song best.
TeaDidikai
It brought tears to my eyes, but it was a function of how ignorant the writer was and how prideful they were to co-opt other people's tragic deaths for their political agenda and persecution complex.

Let's examine these shall we?
Quote:

In the cold of the evening, they used to gather.
Neath the stars in the meadow, circled near the old oak tree.

At the times appointed.. by the seasons..
of the earth, and the phases of the moon.

In the center, often stood a woman,
equal with the others, respected for her worth.

One of the many.. we call the witches,
the healers, the teachers, of the wisdom of the earth.

And the people grew in the knowledge she gave them,
herbs to heal their bodies, smells to make their spirits whole.

Hear them chanting healing incantations,
calling for the wise ones, celebrating in dance and song...

I want to know what ancient religion this was.

Quote:
There were those that came to power, through domination.
They were bonded in their worship of a dead man on a cross.

Ah yes- of course there couldn't possibly be any valid spiritual calling to Christianity, there has to be manipulation and deception- after all, only Us Cool Pegans have real faith.
Quote:

They sought control of the common people,
by demanding allegiance to the church of Rome.

Yay bigotry! Those evil Catholics, it wasn't as though anyone heard about a loving deity and were spiritually called to follow him.

Quote:
And the Pope, he commenced the inquisition,
As a war against the women, whose powers they feared.
The VULVAS R TeH EVIL!

Let's just ignore that the bulk of the Inquisition was leveled at Christians and Muslims, and that it was largely a State issued act, not a Church based one- but of course, this interferes with our persecution complex, so Shhhh... don't tell anyone.

After all, we can't be the modern survivors of the poor pegans if we have to acknowledge that things such as the Spanish Inquisition was actually an attempt by the Spanish Monarchy to regain their thrown from the Muslims.

Quote:
In this holocaust, in this age of evil,
Nine million European women, they died.
Do we get to explain the population statistics now? Or how about how Mary Daly had to have been SMOKING CRACK to exclude the numerous men that were slaughtered in the name of their faith?

The heretics- such as various smaller Gnostic sects, groups like the Cathers or other good Yeshua following Christians!

How ******** dare they defame the loss of these people.

I mean for ******** sake, isn't it bad enough that some 40,000 or so lives were lost? We have to LIE in order to make our Tragedy Dicks bigger?
Quote:

And the tale is told, of those who by the hundreds,
holding hands together, chose their deaths in the sea.

I'll wait for the historical record on this one. stare

Quote:
While chanting the praises of the Mother Goddess,
a refusal of betrayal, women were dying to be free.
And who is this mother goddess? Did someone fail to tell me that Allah had a sexual reassignment?

Quote:
Now the earth is a witch, and we still burn her.
Stripping her down with mining, and the poison of our wars.
Is now a good time to point out that any method to communicate this trash of a song is a good example of turning a blind eye to one's actions?

Quote:
Still to us, the earth is a healer, a teacher, and a mother.
A weaver of a web of light, that keeps us all alive.
Hear that pagans? If you're not an Earth-Worshiping, Light-Loving, Gynocentric pegan, you're not cool.
Quote:

She gives us the vision to see through the chaos.
She gives us the courage, it is our will to survive.
Oh spiff. Someone turned my gods into chicks too!
