Altair shook his head in amusement at the small joke she made and turned in the direction he wanted to head. He looked towards his pupil to see she was starting to get the hint of the basic training. It was, however, obvious that she was still straining to keep her body in check when taking steps since her muscles tightened more than they should have. He was happy to see she was disciplining herself despite the leaf trail obstacle she had gone through the previous couple of hours.
He listened to her questions and observed her dark wings that fit the night. It would be easier for them if she took to the sky, that way she could spot their meal and have more aerial training. Thinking it over, Altair shot down that thought as he was helping her to improve her ground movement. She needed all the experience she could get and if going hungry for the night was the result, well that was experience as well.
"I believe we should stick to the forest floor for tonight. That way you'll get a feel for hunting on the ground in case there are obstacles that keep you from flying to catch your meal. Plus, you'll have to put all your knowledge into the real thing and whether you succeed or fail, it shows where you stand on your training," the male explained, walking in a direction that would lead to new territory.

Dark Myst glared at him. Again. Her muscles were already cursing her to the highest fates, and yet he was demanding more of her. She swallowed the growl and nodded. What didn't kill her certainly made her stronger, and she'd need to be if she would ever beat Ninja.
Her ears flicked following the male. As they moved into new territory, she had to be extra careful where she stepped and how she moved causing her muscles to strain even more. She was becoming tired, and slightly annoyed. She forced her body to stop radiating her mood and concentrate on complete neutrality of her body. If someone could read her, she'd been screwed. She needed to be as vague and unknown as the wind currents she often navigated.
"All right. What should we hunt? Boar? Fawn? Rabbit?" She looked over to him before putting her attention back on the terrain, her ears constantly moving as a radar.

As they moved through new territory, he could hear the improvements behind him when the feline made hardly any noise. He could sense fatigue but one must first be torn down before they can become stronger. That train of thought carried him throughout his existence and it proved a success. His body rarely became tired unless he exerted himself to the point of exhaustion, which rarely happened unless he was doing extensive training. It was one thing he prided himself with but that was all.
As they continued their trek, his hidden orbs trailed back up to the sky to see that the sky was illuminated with many different hues. The sun was setting but the moon was already out. He turned back to his student when she started speaking about what they were going to hunt. A smirk crossed his maw as he thought over the choices she gave. Oh was she going to hate him.
"Why only the most skittish creatures within the forest. One that you need absolute stealth to conquer. A deer. It only takes one slightly out of place sound to scare them off and so we will hunt them. You catch one of them and you might as well be a ground hunting professional," Altair mused, his smirk only widening as he was happy with his choice.

She stopped allowing him to continue forward. Did she hear him right? Did he really just say the 'D' word? She took in a sigh before catching up to him, quietly all the same. Her ears flicked a moment as she took in the sounds of the forest as it began to settle for night fall. Day creatures would find shelter and protection from the night predators.
"Umm...Ninja, whether you realize this or not, which I'm sure you do since you're so smart and everything, deer are going to be looking for their...homes or whatever to go to right now. It's getting dark and it is late. Where are we going to find that sort of game at this hour?" She hissed all the while still trying to remain quiet. Her muscles were starting to slow the burn, and she was getting used to the movements. Her paws seemed to automatically find the ground with surer and stealthier steps. She was learning, but her tail sometimes ceased to move causing little scratching noises thanks to her scales. Her wings shifted every now and then, a motion to her uneasiness.
He seemed to believe in her ability...why couldn't she believe in herself?

Altair merely laughed at the response he received. Such words coming from his pupil but he knew she had no experience in hunting the jumpy animals. He allowed them to walk in as close to silence as possible before actually opening his maw to speak. Her movements were becoming better but there were still the slightest noises that would have alerted any prey within a couple yards of their position.
"Your lucky to be asking me those questions and not someone else. Since you are not used to hunting any normal prey regularly, you probably don't take the time to study their habits? Correct?" Altair mused before continuing without giving the other a chance to speak on what he just asked. "Well, your assumption would be true since they normally are seen in the day but deer are not that predictable. The night is the perfect time to actually spot some since they go out into the open areas to feed. Most predators who have your mindset don't think to check for prey within the open spots of the forests. But with hours of meticulous studies, I have found out that deer take those thoughts for granted and go out into the field. Now, any more questions before we find an open spot for our prey of choice? They'll be easy to spot but challenging to catch so you have to get your mind right."
The male gave a small grin to himself as he found that this was probably the most he'd said at once to anyone in a long while.

Dark Myst listened to his mocking voice. He seemed to be toying with her and yet teaching her at the same time. Typical. With a gentle sigh, she took quiet note of the deer habits. So it was best to hunt them when they least expect it. Coolness... That would make things easier. As he asked for more questions, she began to ponder, but most of the questions she would want to ask he would have already answered.
"So basically we hunt in the open, and I can't use my wings. Can I use my tail as a weapon still?" The female b'alam tilted her head as she idly waved the scaled club she called a tail. It had some advantages as well as the horns atop her head, but she didn't even think to use those. She shook her head and gave a mild cough, her neck burning. She hoped it did not bother her this night.

Altair could tell by the way the foliage on the ground was shaped that they were getting close to a hot spot. Most of the dead leaves were flattened, fitted to the blemishes within the earth. Twigs were snapped into abnormal pieces not fit for an average twig. Clumps of grass began to collect in areas while other pieces of the same vegetation were bent in too sharp of an angle to be considered normal. This was a place that many have traveled through and that was a sign that may lead to a clearing. They would be reaching their target area soon enough.
"That is correct. We are going to simulate that you are deep within a forest and that your wings are utterly useless to you. 'Trees' will hinder your path and keep you from performing aerial actions to catch your prey. Now... on the other hand, it is entirely up to you whether you want to use your tail or not. I would prefer that you didn't so you could get the basics down but if it so important to you and you can wield it properly, I see no issues. Your prey might not be as delectable after you club them to death but hey... it's your preference. I'd prefer to have my prey intact when I hunt," Altair murmured, keeping his voice down so that only the feline could hear. He didn't want other creatures knowing of their current existence within these foreign parts.
His hidden orbs searched within the boundaries of his vision to see if there was indeed any animal nearby for their position to be compromised. There was none and therefore they still had the upper hand. The only thing that could go wrong would be them invading another predator's territory. He knew how to handle those type of situations since it was usually his stealth and patience that aided him to defeat these hazards. But now... now he had Dark Myst with him and she was new to hunting in general. Not even that but she was wounded and both facts were not going to aid her. He'd have to be extra cautious so nothing could go wrong.

Dark Myst couldn't help but feel as though their pace was starting to quicken, her tail flowing behind her quietly. Ears perked and swivled at noises that were not her or Atair's own. She often found herself holding her breath or walking with an open mouth barely breathing. She looked down and began to notice the way that the foliage seemed to be crushed or disarrayed due to something other than nature. It occured to her that as the forest carnage grew worse, the smell of deer and other prey animals was starting to grow stronger. She glanced over at her teacher for a moment before back to the trail.
Soon enough there was a clearing in front of them, and there was a small group of deer feeding. By just sight alone, Dark Myst could distinguish a buck, his two does, and a fawn sticking close to one of the does. Immediately, Myst crouched low starting to concentrate on her movements, her paws being placed with purpose and precision. Though her muscles still burned from previous affairs, she was not wanting to fail this time. Muscles moved under her pelt and clothes, ears constantly moving to get a better idea of where her prey may be.
She didn't bother to look at Ninja for any guidance. She was going to bring one down on her own. She viewed this as a challenge and a way to put everything she was taught so far together. She took a deep breath gazing over the chosen few. None seemed as though they were injured and all were quite aware that they weren't alone anymore. A few more doe and fawn came from hiding to crowd together in the open field as dusk descended upon the small area. Over the rim of her glasses, she could see the buck starting to root and form a circle. He was then joined by another buck who started to imitate his action. Strange. She never knew them to do that.
'Study...gotta study' Myst thought to herself, her body starting to tense and twitch. Everything in her wnated to run and attack, but she was trying to learn patience. She was trying to time herself, to study her prey, to learn of her best strategy of attack. 'No wings...limited tail use..ground hunting. Stealth, speed, power, and tactics...' Dark Myst continued to prep herself as she circled the clearing halfway getting as close to the beasts as possible.
