Do Mormons really dislike black people? I read that Mormons believe that they are direct decedents from Cain >>
Please post references from the Bible or Book of Mormon, I have both >>
Brigham Young seems to have been a racist, but I have met a Mormon girl who was SUPER sweet..So hrrm...I am hoping today's Mormons are not like that ><

No the LDS don't dislike black people.
I will have to find references about your question with the decendants from Cain. I was just reading about that the other day in fact....I will see if I can find where they are.
And as for Brigham Young, he was a different prophet. The way he spoke was/is very hard to understand, and often times the things he has said are taken out of context. He wasn't racist. He was stern, but that's because he had to be. He was sustained as prophet during the time where the Saints were being persecuted the most.

I know which verse you're talking about that gives the impression, and it was actually changed so as to not give that impression anymore. Something about how a true convert to Mormonism would appear 'light and delightsome', which one could translate as their skin tone turning lighter. What I've heard is that it means they appear lighter on their feet and happier.
As far as Brighaim Young, he also stated that the ultimate Mission would be teaching the people who live on the surface of the Sun. I believe he's the reason Mormons accept that their Prophets aren't always talking as Prophets, but sometimes as Men who shouldn't be talking at all. sweatdrop
Edit - My Wife wants me to point out, also, that by the supposed logic of someone becoming 'light and delightsome'(as in skin tone) means that Michael Jackson was the most righteous person in the world.

Militant Christian I know which verse you're talking about that gives the impression, and it was actually changed so as to not give that impression anymore. Something about how a true convert to Mormonism would appear 'light and delightsome', which one could translate as their skin tone turning lighter. What I've heard is that it means they appear lighter on their feet and happier. The verse she is referring to isn't in the Book of Mormon. It comes from the Pearl of Great Price. And the one that you referenced is talking about their works and deeds being white and delightsome. Yes, I know there is one in the Book of Mormon that talks about their skin color, but skin color doesn't determine some one's righteousness/unrighteousness in the Mormon religion. Quote: As far as Brighaim Young, he also stated that the ultimate Mission would be teaching the people who live on the surface of the Sun. I believe he's the reason Mormons accept that their Prophets aren't always talking as Prophets, but sometimes as Men who shouldn't be talking at all. sweatdrop Let me say that one of the greatest astromers of Brigham Young's day believed that people lived on the surface of the sun. John the Revelator also claimed to have seen an angel on the sun. The prophets are just men, they make mistakes and are not inerrant. They are able to be influenced by the superstitions of their day. Mormons don't think they are gods that are perfect. Quote: Edit - My Wife wants me to point out, also, that by the supposed logic of someone becoming 'light and delightsome'(as in skin tone) means that Michael Jackson was the most righteous person in the world. The mormons don't believe in that logic.

I am LDS, and I can answer other questions. I'll come in just to see what comes up now. The most important thing to note with the "light and delightsome" part is that it is speaking generally of their works. It would be symbology, and the Bible is chocked full of symbology also.

Shadows-shine Isaac488 Are Jehovah's Witnesses Mormon? No they are a separate and different sect. To clarify, they are not LDS by any means, they are their own church, with really possibly no affiliation with any other Christian denomination.

No, I like making words up, it tends to be more fun and exciting.
