The little man scurried around the room, preparing everything for his guests that were to come. He had spent many sleepless nights preparing the costumes for the ball, and now the big night was upon him. He was so excited, he could've gotten chills...
There suddenly came a loud thudding sound, and he nearly leaped out of his skin. Were the guests here already? It was still daylight out! Sure, it was nearly sundown, but still...
The thudding came again, and the old man became very nervous. He slowly walked up the stairs, which he had taken great pains to block off from the visitors and their dragons. He walked some of the hallways, shuffling his feet and muttering under his breath. And still the thudding sounded, a constant beat to his own racing heart.
He finally turned a corner, and looked straight into the eyes of the very creature that had plagued his nightmares for the past month. He barely had time to inhale before the creature was upon him.
The strange man threw wide the doors to his new mansion, and eagerly awaited the guests to come.
