ncsweet Based on discussions in a few other places - is it ok to call Samhain, Samhain? I mean I remember the whole Yule thing, and I understand completely the issue of cultural misappropriation, but there are valid paths that use those names for their sabbats/holidays. So it's getting a little confusing. Yeah it confuses me too. But there's no "general" term for non-solar holidays, so I feel at a loss for what else to call 'em, you know?

Well, unfortunately I don't think I'm going to do much, burn some incense and maybe visit a grave of a family member at most. I'm sure some of you are wondering why do so little but my reasons are mine and a holiday for the dead isn't my thing unfortunately.

I figure I'll just keep calling them what I call them. I don't mind simply using solstice, equinoxes and cross-quarters, but then I am also some what partial to Yule and Lughnasadh in particular, and Samhain/Beltaine to a lesser degree.

I've never used "Lughnasadh" myself because I understood it to be named after Lugh, with whom I have no relationship. I've always called it Lammas, because I always feel like baking on that day ^_^ I know it's a Christian term but they don't use it anymore, for the most part. So I claim cultural festival on it wink

Of course I do know a gentle man who is a Priest dedicated to Lugh, in fact I do recall him complaining about just that, if Lugh isn't included in the celebrations, please call it something else. A Beautiful Flower with Thorns

I should probably take some time to actually get to know him, but with the whole "closed culture" bit, I wasn't too sure about it. Though my understanding of it now, is that it may not/doesn't apply to him. So maybe it would be ok.

kage no neko How do you pronounce "Lughnasadh"? "luɣnəsəð" I'll post a video of the pronunciations when my throat works Irish has a phonetic alphabet that does not work in the roman written alphabet, at all. Sanguina Cruenta I've never used "Lughnasadh" myself because I understood it to be named after Lugh, with whom I have no relationship. Have my babies? No, seriously, I'm done with them. All out of baby blood, but you can have the baby fat.

I actually don't think I'd heard "Lughnasadh" before here.. so I had no clue about a guy name "Lugh". I'd heard it called Lammas.. which of course I didn't have a clue of that word's history either.
Maybe I should go another year before I start actively participating in these holidays.. learn more about them. And until then, I'll just do what I always have..

I participated in a kinda late Samhain ritual last night. First ritual for me but it was very mind opening and our mentor blessed the participants BoS since three of us were new.

As I stated before, I held my Samhain night on November 2nd under the light of the full moon. The Weather wasn't permitting a clear sky that night, Until the Ritual Started. Not even a minute after we started the sky cleared right up and there the moon was in all it's splendor, just as I had asked it to in a spell, But there was more to than that. We had afew close calls of keeping Candles lit and in my Frustration I asked "Please show us your presence by keeping the candles lit" And a nice breeze blew by and they all nearly blew out. Soon after which I heard a echoing giggle. Which lightened my mood. ^-^ I blessed and Consecrated my group's Books of Shadows and then we opened the circle, heading inside. I made my Alter cloth that night, Got my Candles, Rosemary and Sage and a group of friends who are willing to aid and learn the practice.
For this new year I plan to be more Serious, Collected, And Driven. I need a job by February. May this year bring forth plenty bounty in the months of darkness. ~Blessed be to all!~

OMG WINTERNIGHTS SNUCK UP ON ME gonk
But I have a few days leeway as Nordic holidays are a little shift-able. I'll honour Oðinn and Hel, and my ancestors, and if I had hay I'd leave some out for Sleipnir. I don't know how Oðinn feels about his horse having a little something, so I won't pour out for him. sweatdrop
Also a little for Loki, as always, because of the oath Oðinn made, and also because I'm honouring his daughter and I don't think he likes to be left out.
Brr. Was a warm day, but a cold night. And good thing I looked around online for inspiration because I'd forgotten: the Wild Hunt rides tonight.
