Evie stared blankly down at the kitten in her grasp, her body still tensed from her expectations. She'd thought it was attack her. Claw up her hands as it'd done to Lucien's face. That didn't seem to be the case, and she had no idea why. Maybe it only liked girls..? Cautiously, she stroked her fingers over its fur, trying to keep it happy, as her eyes anxiously looked over Lucien's features. "A-are you okay?" Evie asked urgently, leaning a bit closer. But then she froze and tilted back again, keeping the feline at a distance. It wouldn't due to let it attack again.

She let out a yelp as he stumbled, and quickly stooped. She set the kitten down and shooed him off, then stepped closer and pressed a hand softly against Lucien's arm, trying to help balance him. "It's o-okay," she stammered, not sure why he was apologizing. She glanced over as he trailed off though, staring blankly at the exit sign. "...do you need help g-getting somewhere?" she asked quietly, eyes shifting back to peek worriedly toward his face.

[Another writer's block... it's long because it's just a lot to describe, but I couldn't help but keep it short and somewhat sweet.]

Lucien stumbled just as Evie ran up to his side to help. He'd been used to rebalancing himself that the sudden help seemed to put him out of balance and his feet readjusted themselves slightly. Now upright, he took a deep breath and smiled, his tone suddenly becoming somewhat weary, yet content, "I'm quite alright, thank you..."

He started to walk to the door, balance regained and wrapping an arm around Evie's shoulder in a quick hug just after they left and found themselves in the southern courtyard, "I'll be fine, thanks for the offer..." Lucien turned to address her properly, not used to speaking to women beside him unless the situation was somewhat different, "I would escort you to the dormitory, but it seems I have to retire to the Asura Laboratory." He stared at the looming shadow in the night sky- an orb of pitch black highlighted against the night sky, "While I do have an official quarter inside the structure, I've acquired a small room with a cot adjacent to my research station where I will likely spend a great deal of my time."

Lucien bowed his farewell, retrieving an object from his pocket just afterwards, "You are most welcome to drop by at any time. I can assure you, I'll both have the time and gratitude for your company... not to mention a small break." Holding the object towards her in a gesture of offering, she could clearly see a length of rope clutched in his fist. It would be considered an ordinary cut, if one end wasn't jerked to the side in the direction of the tower leading up to the dormitories. This end seemed to trail and fade away into nothingness, as if it was tied to a spot in a different direction and was forced to cross the threshold, "I would hate to leave you to cross the campus alone and without an escort, so I'd prepared this beforehand. It'll take you to the tower as soon as you grab the end and pull against the anchor."

As soon as the rope was activated, she would feel like she suddenly accelerated to unimaginable speeds, her body bound to the rope and held together by a seemingly magical force- one that would keep her shoulder from being dislocated or torn off entirely, though not necessarily pain free. The trip would be extremely disorienting and uncomfortable for someone not familiar with its use, the area in front of them contracting, as if space itself was being warped, while that behind her seemed to stretch itself over the horizon. At the other end, the rope was tied to one of the boughs of a tree that stood right next to the building, hanging limp now that it had been reunited with its other half

Alex nodded, without wasting time, sweeping his hands at the carpeted floor beneath them. Instantaneously, his green mist swirled around their feet and they rose from the floor by an inch. He closed his eyes in concentration, folding his hands into fists. He knew the working of a floating cloud spell to lift not only he, which had limited experience in, but also Kira. He had never been able to lift another person with his magic, and lifting himself had taken alot out of him before, leaving him physically exhausted and aching for days. He started a low chant to aid his concentration. "Meraphini, moraphino, muraphonu," he repeated, and strained his muscles against the imaginary effort.

Slowly, they rose above the ground by a foot, then by a yard. Within an arm's reach of the trap door, Alex risked opening his eyes and discovered they were higher than he'd estimated. He felt his heart soar with pride and he looked over at Kira. Her presence strengthened him in a way, he'd never done magic on another, and as such, had only his strength to ever draw on, making him only as strong as his emotional state would allow. But by unlocking his ability to affect others with magic, Alex found that their emotional strength added to his was more than the sum of the two parts, it became a swirling product of multiplication that allowed him extra strength and ability.

His cloud expanded in size and their ascent gained speed. Within a few eyeblinks, they were lifted from the dungeon and sat upon a carpet of green mist. As they sat immobile, levitating above the ground, Alex looked around the house and realized he knew not where to go next to get out of the haunted house. Kira had led the way to two of the three rooms they had occupied. "Well," he began, not quite looking at her. "Which way do we go now?"

Kira tensed a little, but her eyes held a small look of wonder or awe, as she stared down through the green misty cloud and saw the ground shrinking away. They really were flying! How exciting~ She had been watching him at first with a hint of uncertainty, because he'd seemed a bit strained, but he appeared to have it under control for now. Her ears kept twitching at the soft uttering of the foreign words though.

In the end, she was left feeling a little excited, spirits raised along with their forms, as they floated out of the trap door and even a little higher than that. "Hmm..." she murmured, peering around thoughtfully. It didn't take long for hereyes to return back to him, and though she was smiling, her words did not at all match her accomplished expression. "I have no idea!" she exclaimed, but then raised one of her rather scrawny looking arms and flexed it lightly. She had no visible muscle. It was just lightly toned, but hidden inside was a secret strength. "But if you want, I really will bash in a wall. Though... It might be better to find a window and just float out that way." Besides, she wasn't sure if she could break a wall in this state, and she definitely didn't want to change.

Alex caught the look on Kira's face. So, it seemed she, too had been caught up in the magic. He took even more joy in her expression and as such, his magic soared. It was part of the reason why they had ascended the last bit so quickly.

Now that they were up in the hall, and Kira offered to break through a wall, Alex had to admire her spirit. Only moments ago she had been catatonic in her own body, and now she was as full of life as ever, as if nothing had happened. Her resilience was simply astounding. Plus, the thought of her doing something like that made his heart lean a little more towards her. Still, he wasn't ready to admit to those feelings, he wasn't even admitting to himself he was falling for her.

But at her suggestion, he directed their 'magic carpet' down the dark hall, in search of an exit. As they were carried by the mist, Alex looked over to Kira and tried to recall how they had come to this at the end of the night. They had started out getting to know one another, even shared a classical dance, ala his upbringing, and they had wandered here to escape awkward conversation. Well, he admitted, at least it hadn't been boring. A smile crossed his face at that thought. No, there had been no dull moments.

His reverie was interrupted by a ray of moonlight catching his eye.
He raised his head and a tall, thin window broke the monotony of the wall before them. He needed no invitation to sweep the mist carpet higher up off the floor and up through the window, which they discovered had no pane, being a true gothic castle window.

A story off the ground, Alex found it hard not to get disoriented at this height and drop his concentration on the spell. The steady rhythm of the chant still droned in his head, even if he wasn't consciously aware of it anymore. But if something startled him, like thinking about falling to the ground, he would lose that object of focus and they wound indeed plummet down, as per the laws of gravity. Alex clenched his eyes shut and refused to look down once he opened them. He hoped Kira wouldn't see his nervousness. If she did, then the emotional turbulence her anxiousness added to his own insecurity would break the spell for sure.

Alex hesitated for a moment on thoughts of playing it safe and gently lowering themselves to the ground. But if he did that, he would give up a chance to see what his magic could really do when cut loose. Plus, he would get to do something for Kira no one had ever done for her before, and probably no one else could ever do again. The promise of a unique, breathtaking experience with Kira was too much to pass up. Alex focused on being confident, keeping the litany of 'Meraphini, moraphino, muraphonu' going in his head, set to the sound of his heartbeat like some kind on internal metronome.

They soared higher, feeling the cool air cut into them, giving them a bit of a chill. Alex gave Kira a confident look and said, "How would you like to ride to your dorm in real style?" And with that, he set his bearings for the dormitory ball, soaring over school buildings to get there.

[sorry for not replying sooner = w=; I think I'll post here once more]

Kira watched him quietly, waiting for a decision. Bash a wall to pieces or just find a window. Luckily, and much to her relief, the second option was chosen, and they began drifting along once more. She allowed herself to exhale a faint, near silent sigh, her arm lowering again to drape across her lap. The other she was leaning upon, pressed lightly into the mist to support her, another thing she found rather amazing. How was this mist solid enough to carry them along? Since it was working, she wasn't going to question it. It might end up realizing itself, and then creasing to function. She didn't want to put any ideas into its head. Not that.. it was living, or anything.

She glanced toward Alex again, watching him quietly as her ears flattened back to a neutral, almost lazy position, and her tail's end flicked idly behind her, ruffling the hem of her skirt. She really hoped she hadn't accidentally flashed him when she'd jumped without thinking earlier... How embarrassing. No more skirts, she told herself with a rather firm frown.

Wandering thoughts regathered as they arrived at a window, her look of relief spreading a bit. No wall breaking after all~ Still, she had to admit a fear of heights was slightly sparked when they drifted out, and she glanced downwards. She was trusting herself to the idea that he would be able to carry on with his spell. But, since she had nothing to say he couldn't, her confidence didn't wane. She just looked toward him with her lingering, soft smile. Besides, if they fell she'd just land on her feet, like a cat.

She waited for their descent, but it never began. Instead, they started off even higher, and she felt herself tense and press a little closer to his side. Though, as soon as he spoke, her face seemed to light up with further excitement. "That sounds wonderful~" she beamed honestly, even as she shifted her legs and skirt, tucking it in beneath them. It wouldn't do to have anyone look up and get a clear, albeit green, view of her.
