As I mentioned the other day, my computer is currently being s**t. I somehow managed to get three different instances of those nasty scareware programs that mimic standard antivirus alerts and try to make you enter your credit card details. After three days of thinking I'd solved the problem (much registry trawling and such), I give in. It is too hard.

Basically, these things were causing mass pop-ups and warnings with extreme CPU load (I seem to have pretty much sorted this). The main problem now is that any antivirus or antispyware software does not work (every time I try to deep scan the drive, it shuts the program and I cannot re-open it or re-install it). It's also still on my computer, possibly stealing any personal information I have. I find absolutely no sign of it in Task Manager, but I am suspicious it is somehow latched onto my AVG (if this is possible).

System Restore was not actually set up, so I have no prior state to restore (this computer was never intended to go online) and Safe Mode doesn't allow me any extra headway with the running of antivirus programs.

Somebody, please help me, before I cry.

You can set the functionality of safe mode. There are like, 3 different versions. Have you tried them all?

My message that disappeared without trace read as follows:

I am acknowledging your will to help me, but I am done with computers for the night. I will only cry.

Hey. Your first name is my middle name. Maybe we're related.

Probably. I have more extended family than Watership Down.

Mi madre es bueno with these problemas.
She says you could do a complete system reset, but that wipes your harddrive, so it's pertinent you take whatever you need off your computer before-hand so you can re-load it when the computer resets.
