Ellandra nodded. "Yes, them," she said quietly. "Not all of the story is true, though - even I don't know much about what really happened and what didn't," she added thoughtfully, wondering if there would be a way she could ever learn more about what life was like before the Hunt. "But I know this - the Essentics - that's what they're called - they weren't bad, people just got scared of how special they were. They could do lots of different things, these Essentics, and do them better than most people. So people got rid of them." she paused for a long moment to let that sink in. "Some people, though, are trying to help bring them back, so they can be happy like everyone else. . . . Ziazan and Rhian are Essentics, and Faolan and I were charged with taking care of them and giving them a reason, a Purpose, to live."

Kelly blinked a bit, then looked to the door again. "They donnae really seem like th' people in th' story tha' could do all sorts o' magic things. They seem like kids."
"Because they are," Fao said, walking in. He set a bag of groceries and supplies on the counter. "Wish you'd waited fae me, love, before tellin' him th' family secret." He looked down at the boy. "Th' haircut looks good on you."

Ellandra looked up at Faolan and blushed. "Well. . . . I didn't really feel it was something that should be put off," she said quietly, and then added, "Besides, I think Rhian's trying to get Ziazan in a dress again. . ." She bit back another yawn, suddenly wishing she could li edown and take a nap. Oh well, it would wait until after the cake.

"Again? Tha' poor kid," Faolan laughed, walking over to kiss his wife. He looked down at his son, ruffling the boy's freshly cut hair. "Elle's right, though, laddie. You hae t' keep th' secret o' Rhian an' Zia in th' family. That's everyone in this house, your granda, Lee, Rory, an' Lauss. Tha's it. You cannae tell anyone else."
The boy nodded solemnly, understanding, then smiled at his father. "W're makin' a cake."
"Are you now?" Faolan asked, looking at Elle, smiling. "Well, I'm gonna gae wash up a bit an' check on th' babies." He kissed Elle again, patted his son's head, and headed upstairs.

Ellandra smiled after Faolan and debated calling him back to tell him - but decided against it after a moment's thought. Instead, she turned to Kelly and smiled. "I believe we need to get back to baking that cake!"
