I got two new reeds the other day and when I put one in my mouth, it remembered why I hate new reeds. And also, it wouldn't play. So I got to thinking, is there any one out there who actually likes new reeds?

Hm... Depends on the kind of reed. If I order them online I have little trouble breaking them in and it doesn't really effect me, but if I buy them from a local music store I usually end up with some that sound horrible at first. D:
Now I really do not like those. But a few weeks ago my old reeds died on me and I really needed some new ones. Even though I ended up with a store bought reed, it was better than the one I was using. lol

Vandoren Java reeds taste AMAZING when new. They are kept in controlled temperature packets. So it's REALLY fresh when you open it. Plus, i usually just leave my reed on my mouthpiece which seems to last longer and cleaner than taking off your reed, putting it in its case, then putting it back on when you use it again.

nah, i'm with you. i HATE new reeds. i hate changing my embecure (which i can never spell =[) to get my old amazing tone, i hate the taste, i hate having to constantly keep wetting it cuz it dries out faster since it's been in your mouth less.
and i played a half time show with a new reed and i wasn't able to get the last low B to D jump. i was the only sax able to get it before the stupid new reed. =/

I use those same reeds too x3 And yes, I like the taste of new reeds. Dunno why xP
And...that's bad horrible reed maintenance. Leaving a wet reed on the mouthpiece will cause it to warp. Meaning the reed's shape gets a little twisted. It needs to dry on a flat surface, which is why you put it back into it's case.
Furthermore, leaving it on the mouthpiece could promote mold growth.
