A Reluctant Beginning 10/18/09 - 11:40am _____ and ???
She supposed it wasn't the smartest thing to have in a bookstore...after all, the light, as in most stores, was largely fluorescent, which couldn't be very good for any living thing, particularly one that depended on light for its very existence. But as ____ looked at the tiny green thing, she couldn't help but think that maybe a little plant life in the store wouldn't be such a bad thing. After all, the closest they had so far were some plastic counterparts and the long-dead-and-processed pages of the plant's brethren. A little green could really brighten the place up, and keep her company during those long stretches where her only company had previously been the not-really-there occupants of the novels around her. At least the little plant existed somewhere outside of her imaginings, right?
Yeah...this was a good thing, she thought. And what's the worst that could happen? It starts to wither and she puts it outside with a "free to good home?" sign in hopes that someone with a greener thumb could give it a home?
"Alright, little plant. You can stay, for now," she said out loud to the small green sprout, who said nothing in return.

A Pleasant Surprise 10/22/09 - 8:36am _____ and ???
'Well whaddya know...maybe fluorescent lights aren't so bad after all...'
For the past few days, _____'s little green sprout had sat on the counter next to her cash register, a nice little splash of green that she honestly hadn't had much hope for. It was such a tiny little thing, and she still didn't think a bookstore was a particularly fitting place for a young seedling to grow. Still, her coworkers and customers alike seemed to like the little thing, and she had to admit that it definitely brought a smile to her face when she'd looked at it, so she'd kept it around, carefully watering it and nudging it into any sunbeams that happened to cross the counter from the glass of the shop windows.
Perhaps ____ had a greener thumb than she'd thought, because there, where her little green companion had previously been, was a bright, blooming pink rose.
It wouldn't take a rose expert to know that the little plant was something to behold. The rose, as the little sprout had turned out to be, was one of the largest _____ had ever seen, with almost perfectly-proportioned and arrayed petals in a beautiful, gentle pink hue. And as _____ walked up close to the gorgeous sight in front of her, she realized that the rose's scent was every bit as beautiful as its sight.
"Wow....." she breathed, stunned.
