"Okay, Ror, it's just a little bit further~!" a cheerful, high voice claimed.

"Sis... where...?" an unsure, quiet voice replied.

The sky was overcast as far as one could see... but that didn't matter to Chuu. Especially since little white, feathery flakes of ice were falling from the thick blanket of clouds. The snow created a small dusting on the cap-clad heads of the treeborn girl and adopted brother- Chuu also had scarves wrapped around her ears to keep the cold from getting to them. It was a wonder that she could still hear Mirorim speak!

"Oh, you'll see~... oh! I almost forgot today's lesson! See the white stuff that's falling from the sky? It's called snow!"

"...Snow," the mirrorchild said in his own shy voice. He reached out his hand to catch some, but it quickly melted on his gloves. "Sis... where... where snow...?"

"Where'd the snow go? It's still there... you see, when snow gets warm enough, it melts and becomes water!"

"Snow... warm... m-...melt... water."

Chuu smiled and clapped in approval. "Yes, that's right! And we're here!" she exclaimed happily, indicating in front of them. It was Bass'ken Lake, covered in a layer of ice. It seemed to be strong enough that some people were skating on it- but a rescue staff and a medical staff were there, just in case anything happened. Someone had already put up a skate rental, too.

There was a loud squabbling and yelling coming from not too far off of the lake.

A woman with silken black hair was furiously running after a little boy that looked like her son- he was picking up snow and throwing it at her along the way.

"You get right back here you little BRAT!" the woman screamed, reverting to the child's tactics and throwing snow back, "When I catch you we're going HOME!"

The little boy was giggling deviously as he threw another handful of half melted snow. He couldn't pick up much, but for a toddler he sure could run.
"Maa go' ded!" he laughed, "Hitchoo byebye!"

They were running straight for Chuu in a clamor that was inescapable.

One of Baniru's wildly thrown snowballs missed Karma's vicinity... and kept travelling in the air to smack Chuu in the ear. The brightly-colored scarf slid off of it thanks to the impact, and a purple, fuzzy hearing organ was exposed to the cold of winter.

The treeborn winced slightly, but managed to bring out a small giggle. "Hey, be careful!" she said to whomever might be pitching snowballs around the place. Bending down to pick her scarf back up, a black-haired boy careened straight into her arms.

"Oh, hi there! Are you out to play in the snow, too?" Chuu asked, delighted that she might make a new friend or two while out showing Mirorim the world.

"Out to play in the snow, too?" Mirorim mimicked out of pure habit.

"BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" Karma was screaming, still trying to run full steam ahead against Chuu. He hoped he would go through her, but so far his progress did not show so.

The mother of the toddler came running up, puffing a wisp of white air out of each ragged breath.
She really needed to get in shape.

"Thanks... for stopping... my kid..." she managed to wheeze, offering a hand to take the child back. She hadn't had this much adrenaline in her since two months ago, when she was in a car that was about to fly off a cliff.

"He's a... little moron... I'll tell ya..."

Chuu giggled as Karma tried to power his way through her. That tickled! And he did manage to push her back a couple of inches! The screaming made her wince a bit, but the little one was so cute! "What are you trying to do- oh!"

She noticed a panting woman make her way up here, and she must have been doing some running. She looked tired! And she also looked a lot like this small boy... was she his older sister? Or his mother?

"Oh, you're welcome! I'm more than happy to help you!" the treeborn answered, picking her scarf up off of the ground and wrapping it back around her ear. The strips of fabric weighed down her ears, making it look a bit like she was in constant dismay if you didn't pay attention to her facial expression.

Mirorim studied the words of this woman carefully. He looked at Karma, then looked back at the woman. And, finally returning his gaze to the other child, he simply said, "Moron."

"Thank- are you alright?" Baniru asked suddenly, seeing Chuu's ears droop. That meant that you were sad, right? At least, with many of the strange half animal breeds she had met on gaia it was.

The woman tugged Karma forcefully to her side, and much to his dismay, he was unable to move. He shifted his pudgy little golashes in the snow, before he heard the word.

"Moron."

"Maran?" Karma chirped out presumptuously, a look of 'wtf idiot' plastered across his face.
"Jek."

He didn't like this other new boy at all. He was quiet, and creepy, and had these blazing eyes that looked like they could burn through a wall.

"Hush," Baniru tried to quiet Karma down, "Come now, say thanks to this girl and her... brother."

Like any of that was even heard. In one ear and out the other for the toddler, today.

Noting Baniru's concern, Chuu responded, "Oh, I'm fine! It's just the scarves. They make my ears a little sore, but I really don't like them getting cold." All of this was said with a smile, as it was rare that she didn't have one on her little face.

Mirorim watched Karma get pulled to his guardian's side- why was he so disheartened? Didn't he like being close to the one who cared for him?

As habits were, he used Karma's voice for a bit: "Jek." He would go home to find that one of his beads was now half-red, half-blue.

"Jek? No, he's Ror!" Chuu said, giggling. "Oh... you don't need to thank me. He just ran into me!"

"Well, I- HEY!"

Karma had managed to wriggle free of his guardian's grasp, running for Ror with all the fierceness of a mini tiger. He listened to his own golashes slosh noisily and clumsily- after all, he couldn't go very fast with such thick snow.
"Bububu, Jek you!"

Baniru reached out to grab him, but her fingers nearly missed the threads of his coat by mere inches. She cursed to herself, under her breath, before letting out a worried, "Watch out!"

The sun overhead the lake was beginning to set, making the snow glimmer and shine and reflect with dozens of hues, spinning the world into a rainbow of frost. The wind had picked up a bit, and perhaps that's also what was slowing Karma's progress.

The little toddler gathered a snowball in his tiny hands and hurled it towards Ror's face, though with his poor aim one would doubt it would even hit his leg.

Mirorim stood unphased by Karma's actions, not moving an inch when the smaller toddler thrust his face up at him, making his brick hair flutter slightly with the breeze created. His countenance scrunched up in a perfect imitation of Karma's expression, and he repeated the utterance of "Bububu!" along with it.

"I think they'll be okay~," Chuu replied optimistically. "Oh... do we know each other's names yet? I don't think so! Mine's Chuu, and my little brother is Mirorim! It's nice to meet you!" All smiles and sunshine; that's what this one seemed to be.

The treeborn took a few seconds to marvel at the landscape's response to the sun. "Wow, that's so pretty~!"

A small, misshapen snowball landed between Mirorim's feet. He took it not as a threat, challenge, or display of malice... but as an invitation. It sparked a memory of just a few days ago when he and Chuu had made something out of snow. Wordlessly, he packed more frozen white around the ball to make it more sturdy, and began to roll it so it would collect.

Chuu heard the familiar crunching of snow being rolled, and turned around with delight. "Make a snowman? That's a great idea~!"

I don't know what would have made Karma angrier. The fact that Ror was copying him, or the fact that he thought he looked exactly like Ror was portraying.

Fortunately, Baniru managed to swing he furious toddler into her arms for a few moments of talking; just enough for the boy to calm down.

"It's nice to meet you too!" said the woman with an apologetic smile, "I'm Baniru, and this is Karma."
She would have pointed, but it was clearly obvious who she was talking about. Besides, her hands were full trying to keep the wriggling toddler from biting her.

"Here, see honey? Why don't you go make a snowman with Mirrorim, he seems to really like you!"

Karma just frowned. And frowned. And frowned...
He even made a frowny face in the snow with his foot when he was set down.

"Jek." the boy mumbled unpleasantly, scooting over to help pack on snow. Even if this... complete stupid evil insane retarded dumb idiot was being annoying, Karma figured that the big purple fluffy person was trying to be really nice- at least she talked nice and moved nice- and that he should try to appease someone today.

Mirorim had a while yet to grasp a concept such as emotion, so he just kept imitating Karma's face as it got angrier and angrier. Thankfully, he stopped as Baniru picked the boy up.

Not seeming to notice or mind the apologetic look, Chuu responded, "Those are nice names!" with her usual cheery smile.

As the two toddlers rolled up snow together, the treeborn noticed that Karma seemed a little bit upset.

"Are you okay, Karma? Would you like something to eat?" she asked with a hint of concern. And before she could be properly answered, a handful of pastry puffs materialized in her mittened hands before the boy's face. "They have hot fudge inside, so just one can warm you up a whole lot! Would you like one, too, Baniru?" she offered.

Mirorim had already removed a glove and taken one; living with Chuu meant he was used to this.
