Commanders Office:
Squad one is the home of the Commander. As the head of the captains, the commander is the direct link between the Central 46, the law making government and the Gotei 13. The Lieutenant of this squad is also high in ranks, holding control over the topics in the lieutenants meetings and having the final say in them.


Squad two is the host of The Onmitsukidō (called the Stealth Force in the English dub). Given that the Onmitsukidō is currently tied with the Gotei 13's 2nd Division, each Corps Commander also holds a Seated Officer position in said division. The Commander-in-chief of the Special Forces generally also commands top division of the Special Forces, which is the Executive Militia and it is known that the 3rd Seated Officer is the Corps Commander of the Detention Unit. It may be said that the order of the five divisions also goes in order of the top five officers of the 2nd Division.

Squad three has had their share of tough times. In order to keep the divisions working to their potential, Squad 3 has been used as one of the policing squads. Mainly used for execution, Squad three has the duty of ending the lives of those who seek to bring an end to the peace within the soul society.


The 4th Division is the medical/supply division. They are responsible for both treating the injured and doing most of the manual labor, such as cleaning the Seireitei. The 4th Division is further divided into teams that have specific assigned jobs. They are looked down upon by the 11th Division who usually bully them around, although most members of the 11th Division are afraid of the Captain.


The fifth division is home to the kido corps. A force used to train shinigami to properly use kido. The captain of this squad has been known to use powerful kido without incantation and to it’s full force.


Division six is the head of the policing force. Their duties normally include arresting souls or shinigami and bringing them to justice. Sometimes this can be a dirty job and force is needed, that’s why all squad members are skilled in combat.


Squad seven has one of the more difficult duties in the soul society. They are in charge of protecting the squads from any harm. Be it the first or last in battle, you can bet on the captain and lieutenant of this squad being abnormally strong.


Squad eight is in charge of soul safety. Their role is important, they are the first to battle if war wages out in the soul society. They are also known for their past members being directly tied with the commander.


The 9th Division is known to be in charge of the Seireitei news magazine. All the lieutenants of the divisions of Gotei 13 hand in their reports to them. The 9th Division is also in charge of investigations making them the eyes and ears of the soul society.


Squad ten will be the ones you see in Karakura town when things are going down. They are the protectors of the world of the living and will be ones sent in before the rest of the squads in order to get a better understanding of the enemy.


The Eleventh Division is the melee combat Division with a specialization in swords-only combat, forgoing the other Shinigami arts. The Eleventh DIvision is said to be the one of the most specialized divisions in the Gotei 13, in terms of combat. A common theme for the Captain of the 11th Division is to take on the name Kenpachi or the best swordsman of each generation.


The 12th Division has been directly linked to the Shinigami Research and Development Institute over 1000 years ago by former Captain Kisuke Urahara. As such technological and scientific research has become the full measure of what the division involves itself in primarily. Members are tasked with research and collection of data and samples, something both the current and previous Captains are very enthusiastic about, though not to the same extreme.


Also known as The Royal Guard, this is the squad you will most likely to see around the commander. Along with squad 8 this squad is known to have direct links with the commander.
