B'shir was relieved that the Weyrleader had come up with something for the class to do. A part of his mind wondered if D'astel hoped to tire his charges so that they couldn't ask any more inane questions or get into physical altercations, and if that was the case B'shir congratulated him whole-heartedly on his strategy. Three laps was longer than it sounded, considering the size of the hatching grounds. A'ram had always been insistent that his grandson keep physically fit, and so the distance wouldn't leave him completely enervated, but it would be a good workout. He enjoyed the mindlessness of physical work, to be honest.

Do I have to watch? I could run, too, Sakneth volunteered. It would be better than having to deal with all those other dragons. I'm sure they're all stupid and boring.

Stay, B'shir said firmly as he went to join the other weyrlings. He would have liked to do a few pre-run stretches, but he didn't think the Weyrleader would look kindly on delay, so he rolled his shoulders and neck as he walked and bounced on the balls of his feet a few times. Better that than nothing.

Sakneth moved sulkily toward his clutchmates and positioned himself in an aloof position. He wasn't in the mood to favor lesser creatures with his conversation. He kept his attention divided unevenly between watching B'shir and Teharth, with his human receiving the bulk of it. He would have loved to ignore the brown completely, but he didn't trust him.

All in all, it was for the best that Rieta had impressed one of the most placid and sweet tempered dragons in the clutch. Because while some of the weyrlings were calling their dragons to order or, in Amelia's case, at least trying to, Rieta had yet, since impression, to do anything but obey every one of Awunrayth's quiet requests. She kept her mouth shut when told. She didn't call out of turn. She hadn't said a thing during the entire argument.

No, Rieta was utterly and thoroughly dragon-whipped. So, for her at least, the order to run was a bit of a relief. Because, for all that she tried to do her best by everyone, Rieta wasn't above irritation from time to time, irritation she usually got out by saying something. But no, not today, not with Auwnrayth insisting they set an example. So it seemed she'd get out said frustration by running instead.

Giving said dragon a quick pat before departing, Rieta leapt easily to her feet and started off around the hatching grounds with a quick stride. She wasn't speedy, really, but she was in shape. She could run for quite awhile without being left breathless. The sand added a bit of difficulty, but it was something to think about other than her own irritation.

K'han had to roll his eyes at the few who chose now to speak up. Sure, after D'astel assigned punishment for everyone, then you speak your objections!

At any rate, he gently hooked a hand around one of Roheth's headknobs and led the reluctant bronze back to their seat. He met D'astel's eyes just long enough to nod a silent affirmation that he'd heard and understood, even if he didn't necessarily agree with the Weyrlingmaster's decision. Complaining wouldn't help. It was important to be stoic in these kinds of situations, set a good example.

Anyway, the penalty could've been a lot worse. K'han had gotten in enough sticky situations as a rambunctious kid around the Weyr, that the whole punishment thing sort of bounced off him. The lecture would be long and boring, and he would probably fall asleep at least once, but D'astel could have just assigned them all to their least favorite chores and had done with it. With Jilis, there was the chance (however small) of learning something remotely interesting.

Or maybe that was just the irrepressible optimism talking. Hard to tell.

Roheth was... less than thrilled at how completely his efforts had been ignored. The bronze's eyes whirled unhappy colors, though he followed his rider's example and stayed still and silent. At D'astel's command he followed the other dragonets off to one side, with only a soft nudge at K'han's side. Do your best.

When have I not? Now this was more up his alley! K'han, oddly enough, found the prospect of running laps to be something of a relief. Naturally a high-energy, physically active sort of person, he took much more readily to doing than to sitting and listening. Three laps around wasn't exactly a casual stroll, but it hardly sounded like an impossible task!

And... well, if a little bit of a competitive streak came out, and if he started trying to pass a few of the slower weyrlings... It was all in fun, right? Not a race, didn't matter who came in first. K'han would just like it to be him, that's all.

Sharath simply huffed in indignation from her spot on the sand, rubbing her head against Amelia's side as she wished her rider good luck and to show them that they were not to be trifled with. And, if she could, to trounce that uppity R'ysan.

The goldrider shook her head, patted her dragon and rose, slipping into an easy jog with the rest of the riders. She didn't expect any of them to speak to now - they all seemed particularly put out about the lecture tomorrow but Amelia couldn't really feel entirely guilty. What she said needed to be said - didn't it? She couldn't very well let people run over her and claim she was things was not.

While Amelia ran, and seemed to be near the beginning of the pack, Sharath arched her neck proudly as if saying that rider is Mine! She quickly grew bored of watching them run circles, however, and shuffled over towards the other dragons, seeking company through proximity if nothing else. Dragons understood the order, knew without doubt she was a queen and her ire was not directed at them.

R'ysan winked at Ayishia even as she scowled at him then flashed a smile as he turned away. Oh he didn't mind one single bit that she didn't like him. Why should he care what she thought? So he glanced down at Reg as soon as the Weyrleader called for the run and left it at that.

Just hang out here a bit Reg. Time for a few laps.

But I'd rather be running with you than sitting here.

Yeah yeah. Well, I'll be done soon enough. It's not like this is difficult. he smirked as sprinted off across the sands to do his laps. Wasn't like 3 laps was any big deal but probably for others it might have been tough. But it gave him a chance to stretch out and let go for a bit and go into his own mental space for a short time.

Reg sighed and huffed just a hair not sure what to do with her spirited rider at times. Actually she was more frustrated with herself because she was still too young to keep up with him. She wanted to be as spirited and free to do whatever she felt like just like him So she wanted to hurry up and become and adult quickly. However, growing up had other disadvantages because she still wanted to be small enough so she could go everywhere with her rider even in the tunnels and to dinner. She liked human things...shiny human things. So many toys and she wanted them all!

Then she noticed that a sibling had sat beside her as she had been lost in thought. Oh hello, Nachith, how are you? she said while trying to keep her own personal frustration from bleeding over. Most probably would have related it to R'ysan rather than her own feelings about herself but still she didn't want to share that.

R'ysan didn't bother to compete with the others as he ran but was rather amused as he saw Amelia towards the front. He wondered if this was because they let her in front or if she got there under her own power. Either way as far as he was concerned, this jog was more for himself than anything. He didn't care who finished first. So he tested his muscles as he ran and made note of the areas he'd need to strengthen. Hey Reg, if you want to help me out...let's try a memory game. Remember, Right leg, Hamstring - tight. I need to do some stretches later.

Reg looked puzzled for a moment and flopped her tail on to her feet, Hamstring. Ok. Ummm....right leg. Are you sure its the right leg?

Yes, its my right leg. Can you remember that?

Yes of course I can! she squinted and watched R'ysan's legs as he ran. She probably could remember but...how long she remained interested in remembering was another story.

K'ae was a little annoyed that she would be getting another lecture. Lectures weren't fun. It meant she'd have less time to spend playing with Lofrewth. But whatever. She was a dragonrider now! Bonded to the most incredible green ever to grace Pern. She refused to let a silly thing like a lecture get her down. She jogged happily along, easily. She grew up with a lot of physical labor down in Southern. Running? Please. No big deal. She was built for this sort of thing.

Lofrewth wasn't worried about a lecture. Being grounded firmly in the present, it was near impossible for her to worry about future events. What she was interested in, however, was that pack of humans busy jogging. Look what fun they were having! Lofrewth wanted to have fun too! She stood up, ready to take off after the group of Weyrlings.

<> K'ae questioned, seriously. She really didn't want to get into any trouble. Not right now, when the Weyrleader was worked up, and would no doubt hand out punishment readily.

<> Lofrewth remarked, starting forward.

<> K'ae interjected, starling Lofrewth and causing the petite green to sit back down. <> K'ae suggested, hopefully.

<> Lofrewth complimented, jumping up and clearing her throat a few times, which sounded like a mixture of coughing and retching. Bouncing lightly in place, she watched the humans for a moment or two, and then started her song. Wasn't everything better with music? And since there were none of those humans with music things here, she would make her own!

She trumpeted, then chirped, whirred, clicked and hummed in random order. Being young, and a dragon, Lofrewth had very, very little musical talent. She was loud though, because everybody ought to hear her! <> she requested of the other Weyrling dragons, broadcasting her message so that they all could hear her. <> she added, excitedly, never stopping her 'singing'.

Lofrewth's jumping and howling served only to cement his impression that chromatic dragons were lower on the scale of intelligence and poise than he, and greens were obviously at the bottom end of the scale. A part of his mind wondered if he should make allowances for her behavior because of that, but in the end he decided not to. It was his duty to point out to her that she looked like an idiot and was embarrassing not only herself but her rider and dragons in general.

Sakneth narrowed his eyes at his striped sister and asked in a scathing tone, Have you been stung by something, or are you just simple-minded?

The young bronze couldn't believe his idiot sister wanted their clutchmates to join her in putting on her moronic display. Are you hoping the humans will run faster if you keep that up? I can see how that might work, but they'd undoubtedly be running away from you, and in no hurry to return. You look like you're having a fit.

B'shir was oblivious to this exchange, which was probably for the best, as he probably would have run over to Sakneth and done as Janga had done with her blue. That is, punch the damnfool dragon. There were definitely times when B'shir wondered if that was the only way to get through to Sakneth. Not that he'd ever tried it, but if he'd any idea how cutting Sakneth could be to others he would be sorely tempted. He was used to bearing the bronze's abuse, himself, but that was different completely.

Lofrewth didn't pause or stop her singing when Sakneth questioned her. Really, he was a boy. And boys couldn't always be expected to know what they were saying. He probably didn't even realize how rude he sounded! Poor thing. Lofrewth felt it must be hard to go through life with a handicap like that. Or maybe he didn't know how to have fun! That was even worse. Should she try and inform him of what he was doing wrong? No. Probably not. Boys didn't like to be informed of their shortcomings, Hers had said. Alright. She would tolerate him because of that.

<> she informed, matter-o-factly. <> And wasn't that the truth. Lofrewth was not shy in the slightest. Embarassed? Please, she was as confident and proud as could be. If one allowed themselves to be caught up in all the confines of 'dignity' and 'honor', well then you stopped living. And since Lofrewth planned to have more fun than any other dragon before her, she couldn't let a little thing like people's opinions of her get in the way. Besides, her intentions were good, she really only wanted people to be happy.

K'ae was not in the least embarassed by her dragon's behavior. <> K'ae cheered mentally, laughing out loud a little at how ridiculous Lofrewth's singing sounded. She bit her lip to keep from falling into a fit of giggles. The brave little green was putting on quite a show. K'ae did make a note to herself to try and teach Lofrewth later about little things like key and rhythm, but hey, she was a baby dragon. She couldn't be expected to have abilities on par with the masterharper.
