So,
I'm doing a scarf exchange and doing most of my crochet work at work. (Due to the recipient being allergic to kitties.) With this, I was requested to do a tea cozy and a scarf.
A scarf for a man.
I need help for a style and stitch. I normally just do the regular crochet stitch, but I was hoping for something a bit fancier. Any suggestions? Any manly suggestions?
Who's made gifts for friends or co-workers? What was it? How did you get suckered in? Are you currently making something? Is this thread so wonderful that you are going to make something now after reading this?

Have you tried an afgan stitch? You'll need an afgan hook, which is like a knitting needle with a hook at the end---it makes a flat pattern with squares in it, and people used to do intricate cross-stitch designs in the squares. Just a plain scarf made like this might work. Of course, the choice of yarn and the size of the hook make all the difference!
I'm not a big knitter, so scarves usually just end up in (knit one row, purl one row), with macrame fringe on the ends!
I did end up crocheting some fingerless gloves and a hat last winter after seeing your pictures here, and with all the driving I do, they were wonderful! So, yeah, you'll probably make me want to get all that stuff out again.....lol!

I never knew about afghan hooks! I'll look at those next time I'm in Michaels. Karl, my other half, wanted me to make the blanket as seen on the yarn label - so I might make practice on that.
I will keep the scarf simple. I used a larger crochet hook so the scarf isn't as dense. It moves well but is still thick enough to be warm. As I don't knit, I just will alternate with one of the colours. I like to over complicate things so with this I am keeping it nice and simple. 3nodding
sunsetsmile - you should post pictures! I'm getting into things again now - I have two scarfs on the go and quite possibly an Irish flavoured tea cozy. Keeps me out of trouble! ;3

Since the last post here, I've knitted a huge scarf with pockets on the ends, with a hat and fingerless gloves to come, and I bought enough yarn for 2 sweaters!!! Just when I thought I could stay out of the yarn department----- And it's even worse than that. There are Angora goats for sale here, two does, a wether, and a buck, all registered. Also three beautiful llamas with championship bloodlines that I'm thinking about. I've been fighting this grow-my-own-fiber thing for YEARS. I haven't decided on any of the animals yet, but............! These animals are healthy and beautiful, the owners are just at the point of moving into town, and are more concerned with the animals being well-cared-for than profit, at this point. Prices are just almost unbelievable. I think I'd be a fool not to jump..........!

Get the goats, get the goats, get the goats get the goats.
Goats are fantastic creatures! I wish I had some.
I've now finished the scarf, working on two more. Almost finished the one, well, almost finished both.
Next I am going to try and do a lovers knot shawl for my Oma and another scarf for another friend. gonk
I also was "given" a "project" of making a baby blanket. (And I don't need to worry at all! Only needed by December 21st! scream ) Any ideas? Any stitches? It's suppose to be red and white. I haven't really committed to it; I don't like how I was basically told to do it, not asked. >_>

You have been busy! Have you done a search for free crochet patterns? There are lots of free patterns out there! Someone beat me to the goats, darn it, but at least now I know that there are angoras here somewhere, and I'll track them down in the early spring. I did put a deposit down on two of the llamas, though, and we are working on moving the fence and building a small open shed for them, which we will enclose with straw bales during the winter. The bales can mulch the garden in the spring. The price is wrong, but go to http://locksleyfields.blogspot.com/ for a picture of Midknight and Dakodah! I am so excited! We do have a pair of pygmy does that we got this spring, and they are so funny, and so affectionate---and so jealous! It will be interesting to see how everyone gets along!

I don't know about a pattern for it but I'll try to get it from the person that posted it.

Have yet another scarf in the works and a baby blanket. (Not for the person who "gave" me the project, but for a friend at work who's girlfriend is pregnant. I've got eight months to work on it, so I'll be fine. :3 )

Hi! I knit heaps of stuff, but don't cocquet. Mabey try something new like a small purse or handbag. For boys? Jumper? Depends how old they are I mean I wouldnt give a 15 year old a scarf. What about a beaney? Stripes are always effective. For knitting, vary the stitches, use a cable needle or switch between large needles and small needles ti creates a really good effect but takes HEAPS of practice to get it even. Good luck with it!
