I drew this at the beginning of the year and found it just recently. I really liked this drawing so I decided to put it in the arenas to see if it was just myself that liked it, or if it was actually good. Well I know that I shouldn't really go by what the arena vote is, but I ended up getting a 2.3.. and I kinda thought it was better then that.
So now I want to know if there is something I can fix on it. I know the shading is not that great because I'm still teaching myself about that. But is there anything major that I should be looking at as well?

Here is the image. Please critique.

Very nice shading! Her legs seem a little awkward.. It might just be me, though. Anatomy isn't my thing... Anyways, I really like the eyes. Which is good, because in my oppinion the eyes in anime are everything.
All in all, heck of a lot better than I can do and really nice 3nodding xd 3nodding

Right! Critic mode!
4/5 Very cute and detailed, especially the clothes. The legs seem awkward, but if you erase some guidelines that will be the only problem. Love your style.

I'm not a great artist myself, but I'll try my best to critque.
The shading is okay, like you said, but you're shading some parts of the outfit in a way it wouldn't be folded. Also, another thing I'd like to say is I can't identify what the character is really wearing.
It may be just me, but when you do a piece its best not to confuse the viewer, unless your goal is for them to guess with their own creativity.
Her arms and legs are a bit awkward, I can see how shes holding herself but the way she wraps her arms around herself is a bit unnatural. I don't know, thats my own opinion.
By the way that shes standing, she would probably fall in real life, especially with her legs in that position.
All in all thats all I have to really say, though I think your drawing deserved a little more than what you received, improving is the way to go!
Good luck on your future arts n__n Oh, and I don't mean to be rude or harsh, just my opinions. ♥

Thank you all for your opinions. They were really helpful. A lot of you mentioned the pose. I will work harder on that. I was kinda trying to go for a falling backwards. Kinda like when people stand on a desk and fall back into peoples arms. Though you wouldn't be able to tell by just this picture. I guess I need to kinda fix that. sweatdrop Maybe I should redraw it on a bigger piece of paper with her knees more bent. Not really sure.
Also, the dress is one of those kinda like pillow dresses.. I don't really know how to describe it. Its a double layered dress. meaning when it gets to the bottom it doesn't stop it goes back inside the dress and back up. I don't know if you can get what I'm saying. I saw this dress and wanted to draw it. I thought it looked kinda cute. XD I think I might have also seen someone draw it before.. but I'm not sure..
