I guess it's my turn to rant.
Go me.

The topic is pretty obvious.
I'm about to rant about how much of a n idiot people can be when they have big Ego's.

So I made a new firend on Guild Wars earlier today.
Fancy me, I got to know her for a few hours and then she wanted to be invited to my guild.
We had a lot of fun, we shared a lot in common.
Or so I thought.

So she gets invited, not 10 minutes after she gets invited, she starts bullshit.
So I finally got the spear I was looking for.
I then ask to see if anyone can run me to an outpost so I can get an Elite skill.

She is a Dervish, a Solo class with medium armor, tons of self healing and weilds a scythe.
I'm a Paragon, Second highest armored class in the game, Pure party support.
She runs me to the outpost and as we get there I said, oh wait, I forgot I had a running build. I could of ran my self. Silly me.
Out of the blue not 30 seconds after I said that she goes. "Paragons are useless =P"
In case no one knows.
Paragons and Dervish are pretty much rival classes.
They were two new classes introduced with Nightfall that were COMPLETE opposites.
Dervish has a lot of soloing capability. While the paragon can't solo.
The dervish has no skills that benefit the party as a whole, while the paragon is the best support class in the game.
So there is quite a big fued about dervishes and paragons.

I ask why she said that. She said that paragon's can do anything. They can't farm Underworld or Fissure of Woe (Two of the hardest dungeons in the game.). They can't farm at all.
My response was. "You know your talkig about a support class right?"
Her response, so? They are useless.
Me: Do you know anything about them? They can do plenty.
Her: Like what?
Me: Paragons have the ability to permanently reduce all incoming damage by 70% or more.
Her: Anything else?
Me: Yes, they are the only class who can daze bot. (Daze is a condition that causes you to cast spells 2 times longer and when you are hit while casting a spell it is interrupted. One of the most devastating conditions in the game)
Her: What else?
Me: They are also used greatly in GvG, with the elite skill. "The Power Is Yours!". The team is called. Duel Para.
Her: Fail Elite.
Me: Are you serious? That skill provides an extra energy regen. That's amazing. Especially when you have 2 paragons trading off using it to keep it up permanently.
Her: You're very arrogant.
Me: Excuse me? I'm arrogant?
Her: Oh excuse me, ignorant.
Me: Because I know how to use a paragon, I'm ignorant?
Her: No, because paras suck.
Me: Wow, you don't know anything about them do you.
Her: I bet your Paragon can't beat my Dervish.
Me: Well no s**t sherlock. You're comparing a Damage Class to a Support class in a damage contest.
Her: Exactly, Paragons suck.
Me: You are such an idiot. You probably don't even know what Ignorant even means.
Her: I do.
Me: Well thats too bad, because I'm done talking with you, you're to stupid to see anything from your own blind point of view.
Her: Lol.
Me: And I thought Funk was bad. (Funk is a person who was popular in an Arena I fought in a lot because he was the biggest s**t talker and would say anything to get under your nerves. He would go into the lobby and just start saying whatever he felt like saying. It's also the arena I met her in.)
Her: What? What did I say?
Me: It's your attitude. ~Kicks from guild~

How big does your ego have to be, to be so ******** blind and stubborn to admit you were wrong?
My ******** god. There is no such thing as dignity in this world anymore.
People are too concentrated on trying to make themselves look correct then accepting that they were in the wrong.
You said something was useless, I showed you things that made it awesome.
And you still throw dirt.

I'm so tired of all these egotistical pricks.
PostPosted: Thu Oct 08, 2009 11:45 am

I really have no clue about this Dervish and Paragon thing, but I can feel you about the ego. You told her the facts and just because you two were in separate groups that are rivals she just kept throwing it out there that you suck.

She was basing her image of the Dervish as "oh, we are your rival so you suck and are useless to us." You had the facts that she choose to ignore. I mean I really don't follow with this Dervish, Paragon thing, but I do know that I damn, well, know that you were neither ignorant, arrogant or egotistical in that conversation. You held your ground with the truth, the facts and she didn't want to face them, because no one likes to admit they're wrong..

And she wouldn't do it after see put her Dervish on high pedestal way above your Paragon...it's only because the facts tell that Dervish is better and that's all she cares to see...

I really do wish I could answer why people won't admit they're wrong, but I think in this case she didn't want to because it would make her feel low after she egotistically put her Dervish above you...

I don't know, maybe this doesn't make any sense, because I really don't know about this whole Dervish and Paragon thing...

I'll try to explain it a bit more. The original Guild Wars came out with 6 classes available.
Ranger (Archer), Monk (Healer), Mesmer (A littler hard to explain, they are mages who deal with putting spells on you to make you ******** yourself up, or just mess up your skills), Elementalist (Standard Mage, deals with Fire, water, Earth, Etc.) Warrior (Tank/Melee), and the Necromancer (Necromancers deal with summoning minions and stealing others HP).
2 years later guild wars released "Guild Wars Factions" A new campaign introducing 2 new classes. The Assassin (Melee) and the Ritualist. (The ritualist is a mix between a Monk and Necromancer. They have spells that focus on healing while they summon spirits to help support or do damage)

1 year after factions was released, Guild Released a new campaign called "Guild Wars Nightfall" Which released the 2 new classes Dervish (Melee) And Paragon (Ranged support). How the whole feud started was at this. When Nightfall first released, Of course, no builds have been released yet, Dervish being the easy and simple solo class was heavily favored over the complicated and party needed Paragon. The paragons remained shadowed by the dervish class for it's lack of players, which also made it harder to find or make legit builds (A build is your 8 set of skills. Based on your primary Profession and then smaller add-on's from your secondary) (A secondary profession is by picking any other class that you are not, and be able to use some of their skills to help increase your potential, but your secondary skills will not be as power as if the class was your primary).

About a year after Nightfall was released, Guild Wars announced Eye of the North, but hadn't released it yet. At around this time was the biggest discovery for the Paragon that made them so valuable that even today they are called the best support in the game. A build was discovered which the community called. "The Imbagon" This build consisted of taking 3 PvE only skills, and using the Paragon prime attribute which dealt with gaining energy when shouts were used on allies. (Paragons use shouts and chants to support the party) To use many skills that were hard to keep up permanently. In which the paragon was able to do this. Using a mere 5 skills the Paragon can give the entire party 70%+ Dmg reduction. Which can make Hard mode (Only available when you beat the campaign) Feel like you were making a new character at the start.

But after the year of Dervish being so superior to Paragons, people still argued that Paragons were still useless because there was no PvP build for them. Paragons weren't able to dish out the damage needed for PvP like most classes. And with the release of Eye of the North, that was easily fixed. Eye of the north did not introduce any new classes, but it did release dungeon raids and various new skills. These skills allowed the paragon to become the Daze Bot. Daze is one of the most devastating Conditions known to date. It's a very rare condition that in PvP, you will only see a paragon use. And in PvE you will almost never encounter it. If your healers receive the condition Daze, your party is pretty much screwed. (Daze causes the foe to cast spells two times longer, and when they are hit, they are instantly interrupted and the spell is canceled.)

With the introduction of the Daze Bot Paragon, "PvE only" became a thing of the past. Though Paragon are still party support wise, and Daze is only effective against casters, none the less the Paragon is the only class now able to keep up the most harsh condition, Daze permanently. But after being suppressed by the Dervish class so much, Most people who took the role of dervish have always felt they were superior to the paragon, and because of this began the Paragon/Dervish rivalry. Though Dervish still argued the Paragon Cannot farm or run.

One of the main things people have a dervish for is to do something called "Droks run" Which is to run people through one of the most brutal places to get max armor. Recently a paragon build was introduced which allowed the paragon to run Droks, bringing them up even more, though most Dervish still argue Paragons can't farm, in which they can't. The paragon is not a solo class as stated above, and thus has no farming build. The running build of the Paragon had something no other class can do. They were able to keep a shout called "I am Unstoppable" Up Permanently, which is one of the main skills a dervish uses to run droks, The paragon uses a skill to increase the time shouts remain on themselves by 50% IAU lasts for 20 seconds and recharges in 30. The extra 50% causes it to last 30 seconds, making Paragon's almost impossible to stop once they start. IAU gives the user Added armor and immunity to cripple (A condition that makes you run 50% slower) And immunity to knock downs.

Here are a few screen shots so you can see what they look like.

Dervish

Paragon

If you need me to explain anything that you might be confused about, please let me know.

P.s.: Another factor that played in the rivalry was that The Paragon dealt with Angelic features, some of their skills allowed them show Angel Wings. While the Dervish dealt with Demonic features, various skills from them allowed them to take on a demon form.

Ive been thinking.
Off topic sorta for a moment.
I prefer to fend for myself alot.
So Dervish is for me lol
Though Id train to host abilities to help others.

Still, on topic.
People with Egos rock!
Cause when you stomp them out,
Its fun to watch them cry ^_^

That's the thing, the Dervish has almost no skills that do, thus training a Dervish to be support is either gonna fail or won't happen.
It's the same, trying to make a Paragon go Damage isn't gonna happen, or it's gonna be epic fail.

Guild wars isn't your standard MMO, there isn't really such a thing as training, because everything about your character can be changed except for your primary class. Your characters are completely customizable. Max level is 20. Which helps with in-game balance.
Guild Wars is a very unique MMO and it's system works really differently from your standard MMO. It's nothing like WoW or EverQuest.

send me a link!
Wait, do I have to download it?
PostPosted: Fri Oct 09, 2009 1:41 pm

You have to buy it from the store.
There is no monthly fee though.

I'll record me in a PvP match with my Monk.
My monk uses Paragon as a secondary to help increase my allies speed while I heal them.
My monk instead of being a Healing Monk, is a Protection monk.
