I was thinking of picking up another pedal.

Right now I have a Digitech multi effects pedal, I think it's the RP300 or something.

Generally, though, I find I use my amp's distortion. I was wondering how major the difference was between a distortion pedal, like the Boss DS1 or 2 or 3 or whatever and a generic amp distortion. My amp is Crate G212 120watt.

If you suggest sticking with my amp distortion, then perhaps you can suggest another pedal.

I use my Digitech pedal mostly for chorus, reverb, delay, flanger, phaser, stuff like that. Not so much for the wah, whammy, or distortion though.

Im not at all familiar with the amp you use, so I cant judge that overdrive, but I can say that Boss pedals tend to be much better overdrives than alot of amp overdrives. However it sounds like you have a pretty good amp, so this may not be the case. Take a look at the Boss website and poke around .They have an interactive pedalboard that lets you listen to their pedals in action.

if you want distortion, get a Big Muff Pi. you get tons of distortion, which can be moulded quite well.

Otherwise, get a Crybaby Wah. A truely great value pedal.

Agreed. Boss and Electro-Harmonix make some of the best pedals around. Can't forget Ibanez either, sometimes they put out a solid pedal for dirt cheap. One of the best shows I ever played, I used nothing but a $10.00 used Ibanez Powerlead for the solos. I'm not sure if Ibanez's quality stays consistent, my only beef.

I find that DOD pedals are the least reliable, very prone to breakage and weird problems. I also used a Wasabi distortion, which sounds kind of canned. Not too impressed, but it worked a lot better than the DOD Death Metal I attempted to use. You at least get a choice of four mediocre distortions. Maybe it wasn't that bad, I don't know. I like my current E-H gear better though.

If you're looking for something exotically weird, try http://www.4mspedals.com/index.html

I'd suggest picking up a Super shifter for some kicks. They're great tools if youwant to double track a solo and don't have the range for it on your guitar.

At the moment, I'm playing my Boss MT-2, and I have to say I like it. Very robust, and very customizable. That's my two cents, at least.

I agree. Get the Big Muff for distortion. I had the metalzone or whatever the metal pedal is that Boss makes and I would suggest it over the regular distortion/overdrive Boss pedals, if you are still going with Boss, because it has more knobs and sounds better.

I really want a harmonizer. Does anyone know of any decent ones?
