Kai wondered why he bothered trying sometimes. With a soft sigh, he stepped away from the bigger boy, eyes filling with the exhaustion he felt. Luke would always be the same, though he knew this in particular was a touchy subject. "Yes, she did bring the car. Please, don't mock my intelligence Lucas. I'm not like your idiot friends. it doesn't take a rocket scientist to notice that every time you go to your father's place, you return with a fresh batch of bruises. I can understand if you don't want to talk about it, but at least let me help alleviate the pain."

With that, the small boy left the room and returned with some cream, which he used to soothe the marks with a washcloth. "There," he whispered, placing the container on the coffee table. "If there are others under your clothing, you can apply it there. Would you like something to eat or not?"

He wasn't sure what Luke had intended by coming over here. He would never consider them a real couple. hell, the jock didn't even LIKE him. Not as a person and certainly not as someone he was dating. This was all a stupid game. Either Kai played along and put up with 'dating' the jock or Luke's lackeys would attack him.

Blue eyes slid back to the other boy's eyes, Lucas could feel his eyebrows furrowing together with a slight annoyance. What gave Kai the right to assume that he knew what the hell was going on? A dark hatred slowly bloomed as the smaller spoke, not allowing much attention to what the younger said anymore. Yet, the moment that the container was set down Luke seemed to be drawn back to his unfortunate reality.

With a scowl on his features, Luke grabbed the smaller and forced him to sit. A wild anger flashed in sapphire eyes as the footballer leaned in, blocking escape. "Those retarded acquaintances know more than you think." The jock stressed the word because there was no way in hell that he would consider them close enough to be friends.

The eyes narrowed as the teen's fist tightened and rose, "Just what the hell do you know anyway?! It is known of your damn business or anyone else's!" Luke yelled, but his arm stopped midway before hitting the smaller. The eyes widened momentarily, before the expression faded into a softer expression that was filled with regret and slight guilt.

The boy backed off a bit, now standing in the middle of the room. The long fingers shakily ran through his hair as the thumb on his other hand lingered in his pocket. "Uh, you should probably rest..." Lucas mumbled, refusing to make eye contact. He then instinctively repeated something he used to say frequently when he was younger, "Besides sick people shouldn't worry 'bout injured people. Injuries heal, but people can die from getting sick. Honestly..." The teen sighed before glancing over at Kai.

"So!" Luke suddenly pointed one of his slender fingers at the ill boy, "Until your feeling better, you're gonna rest and eat soup...or whatever it is sick people eat these days..." Luke added in a smart a** tone as though he had never been sick. It was like a slight parody from when he was smaller, yet he didn't even realize it. "So, stop your mother hen attitude cause until it is obvious that your better you are going to be resting - so nyah." The older teen folded his arms, signaling that he was done with his little speech.

"Just what the hell do you know anyway?! It is none of your damn business or anyone else's!"

The boy didn’t even flinch as the other rose his fist to strike him. He fully expected Luke to hit him and had no fear towards the thought. After all, it wouldn’t be the first time. His expression didn’t change as the man’s fist lowered. In all honesty, disgust was curling in his stomach. It was forming a tight ball. “What the hell do I know?” he repeated calmly at the end of the other’s little rant about sick people. A scoff appeared on his delicate expression. “Yes, what the hell do I know.” It was mocking now-- tinged with hate.

The boy shook his head and turned on his heel to return to his room. “I know what a bruise made by a fist looks like. I know how to make them vanish even when they cover 90% of your body. I know what its like to be incapable of moving for two weeks because you entire body is stiff from the experience. You’re right, it’s not my business, but then why did you even bother coming here in that condition? ‘How would I know?’ How you can even say that is mind-boggling to me. You may get the s**t beaten out of you ever rare occasion you go to your father’s, but did you suddenly forget the fact that you beat me to a bloody pulp EVERY DAY not too long ago.”

He tossed the other a scathing glare over his shoulder-- something chilling and deadly. “Just go home, Luke. I’m sick, I’m tired, and I’m simply not in the mood to deal with your bipolar BS. I still don’t understand why we’re playing this stupid ‘boyfriend’ game. Personally, I just wanted people to stop hitting me. What is your motive. To embarrass me? To make my life hell from the inside? Go home, grow a pair, and leave me to my Goddamn soup.”

With that said, he stormed out of the room, slamming his bedroom door shut.

Lucas watched the other walk off and slam a door. Strange mixed feelings overwhelmed the boy as he sighed and walked over to the door.

"Do you really want to know why I came here?"The boy softly whispered through the door. "It is because the only friend I have ever had hates my guts vehemently. But, he doesn't know that I had to make him hate me. I don't want him to know that there was a very specific reason that I would go old of my way to make him look as battered as possible, then hoped to hell that he would just let the bruises remain visible for once so that I wouldn't have to do it again so soon. He doesn't know that I had to do this so that he wouldn't..." Luke choked on his words, not wanting the truth to be known. "So that he didn't know what was really going on."

The teenager clenched his fists and continued on, "I admit, I started to hate him too because he kept making the marks disappear - the marks that actually ensured him safety from something much worse. And I will also admit, as he grew fat I was secretly glad inside because it wouldn't seem like I was harming the one I cared for, but a complete stranger."

"So that is why I came here." Lucas sighed, resting his forehead on the door. "but since you want me to leave so badly, I guess I will just go make your soup and get out, huh?" With that, the young man walked out to the kitchen silently.

Kai sighed shakily as he listened to Lucas speak. He pulled his knees to his chest and rested his forehead against them. He didn’t understand. What excuse could Lucas possible have for all those years of torture and ostracizing? What was ‘the truth.’ The fact that the other wouldn’t just say it only made matters worse. If there was a reason for all of this, for all the pain and loneliness he had endured over the years, he wanted to hear it. Maybe hearing why it had happened would make it better.

“What is the truth,” he whispered softly as Lucas re-entered with his soup. Biting his lower lip, he took the tray, set it on the night table, and grasped Luke’s hand in a weak grip. “Please tell me. It’s only fair.” His face was flushed from fever, probably heightened by all the stress, and he leaned slightly against the jock in exhaustion. His small, frail body seemed to quiver slightly-- unable to decide between hot and cold.

He looked up at the other with large blue eyes. “I just want a reason Luke. Please. Just tell me why. What did I do?”

The teen raised his eyebrow slightly when he had re-entered. Had Kai just asked what the truth was? Luke quickly pulled his eyebrows together as the soup was taken and put aside, now sure that Kai had asked what the truth was. Why wasn't he still screaming? Why did he quiver? Lucas figured that the fever was probably starting to really get to the other.

"I...I'm not sure if I am even able to say the truth..." The young man mumbled. Lucas felt his eyes widen softly as he was enveloped by the blue pools. He bit down on his tongue violently, trying to resist the temptation to hug the weaker male.

“I just want a reason Luke. Please. Just tell me why. What did I do?”

That lone comment caused the blond footballer to break inside. Lucas bent, and gripped Kai into a tight hug - hiding his face in the other's shoulder blade. "You didn't do anything! It's not your fault. Don't you dare ...." Luke choked on his words, feeling Kai's fever blaring. "It's.....It's that b*****d's fault... All my stupid, disgusting bastardly father's fault. He is a sick, sick man. Who doesn't have the right to be called a father."

The small boy blinked in shock as he was embraced by those powerful, muscular arms. Cheeks flushing bright pink, he returned the hug, running a small hand affectionately through Luke’s hair. “I-I didn’t?” he whispered. He didn’t understand what had happened if it wasn’t his fault. Luke was blaming his father. What could have possibly occurred? He kissed the other’s temple gently. “What happened?” he asked softly, tone still a bit dazed.

He touched the man’s cheek carefully, looking into Luke’s eyes with his own large, foggy ones. This type of touch… it was certainly different. He was accustomed to being handled roughly—pushed and pulled to and fro like a rag doll or beaten to a bloody pulp. After all, his parents were quite literally never home to give him affection and he had no one at school who showed him even the faintest bit of common decency. He liked being held.

He didn’t pay attention to the fact that the male’s body practically covered his own smaller one or that he wasn’t glaring hatefully at the other anymore. He pressed their foreheads together, sighing softly. “You don’t have to tell me why… if it’s difficult for you.”

"No, you didn't. Unless you consider being too cute to be a crime." The football player mumbled softly with a slight embarrassed blush as he felt the smaller, weaker arms return the hug. Had Kai been this fragile all this time? Lucas furrowed his eyebrows together as he thought of what a monster he, himself had to be for hurting someone so innocent.

He could feel the small fingers in his hair, the light kiss on his forehead. Had such endearments ever been used towards him this way? He couldn't recall. Lucas looked up in confusion as a hand touched his slightly swelling cheek. Why was there no death glare in the other's eyes? Why did he act so sweet?

Lucas stared for some time, silent, wanting to take this moment and bottle it away so nothing could taint it. Unfortunately, time can no be bottled, no matter how hard somebody tries. "You would be disgusted if you knew," was all that could come from the teen's mouth before he pulled away, slowly. Luke glanced at the floor sadly. "Come on, ya better eat your soup before it gets cold..." Silently, the blond pondered how, when, and if he would be able to tell the other.
