Jessica Watson is a 16 year old Australian thats going to sail around the world in 8 months. She convinced her parents who don't seem to worried themselves to help get funding and prepare for the journey.
In Australia they were very supportive until she crashed into or got hit by a cargo ship some days before her actual trip out to sea. Some speculate she fell asleep at the wheel but I haven't heard her go into detail about the whole thing. Anyways after that there was much more negative feedback than before not that anyones gonna stop her of course.
One sailor Don Riley who was the first woman to manage an Americans cup syndicate feels most of the attention is because of sexism. And I really just don't feel that way. I don't think anyone would even let their 16 year old live in an apartment by themselves for 8 months let alone at sea. So I understand the criticism.
So what does anyone think about the whole deal?
