Doing assignments when you're not interested in them is the worst thing ever
Put them off and put them off
I go back to uni tomorrow after a two week holiday - two assignments due this week
I haven't started one and the other is half done
But who wants to do a case study that's 10 years old when you KNOW the company and how much it's changed since then
And I'm not really very interested in GM foods, I have to say...
But I should get it finished tonight :(

Projects that are not only boring, but obsolete, are the worst!

dya know what about like about that Gm stuff?

the companies patent the seed and then no farmer can grow new seed, they have to buy more from the company.

i know native americans who are fighting to save seed corn from becoming obsolete.

There was a huge thing about that when UH tried to patent a taro species. To the Hawaiians the Taro is sacred, and they went crazy over the news.

Yeah, the saving seeds issue is pretty controversial. From what I read, the seeds which come from a lot of hybrid crops (i.e. not GM) actually give really poor yields, so a lot of farmers are buying new seed every season anyway. And if GM crops really ARE more profitable, then it isn't really an issue. Trouble is, GM seeds aren't always going to be more profitable, and it's a lot more of an issue for farmers in developing countries.

Stemming on from your point about the Native Americans, I remember seeing a documentary about seed banks. Apparently diversity of seeds is potentially becoming a problem, with only a few strains being used worldwide and 3 or 4 companies in control of them. There was some statistic like, some major crops have lost 80% of their diversity in the past century.

For a random fact, apparently GM papaya saved the Hawaiian papaya industry...
