Gylren was merely watching the dragons in the Weyrbowl with his usual calm manner, lounging on a large boulder off to the side. He tugged gently in the light cloth of the scarf he always had wound around his neck, replacing it to cover the scar that adorned his neck like a necklace that would never come off. The tall, lanky Candidate draped himself luxuriously over the boulder, readjusting his position to one more comfortable. Folding his arms behind his head, Gylren closed his eyes and began to doze off, letting the sun's rays keep him warm as he stretched out lazily. Today was a good day to just flop over somewhere like this, and Gyl was going to take advantage of that.

Raysan chewed on twig of grass as he peered out toward the bowl. It might take a little time for all of the new sites and people to sink in but he was certainly not one to pass up a challenge even if it meant that he was a fish out of water for awhile. Eventually that would change but for now he would take things in stride, and learn what he could about this new place.
While in that thought, he spied out of the corner of his eye what might be a comfortable spot to let the notions of the great change in his life sink in. Soon, he knew that they'd be assigning him to some sort of daily chores, that he was certain about but for now, he was sort of left with nothing to do. Maybe that was a smart thing for a least a short time because it was kind of pointless to be assigned tasks if you didn't know you way around the place. Well at least, it wasn't efficient!
As he sat down on one side of the boulder, just out of the sun's reach, he finally let out a relaxed sigh. Maybe he could afford one moment of doing nothing at all? Now that was a concept he hadn't thought of in awhile and felt rather guilty for thinking it considering at home his sister was probably working her fingers to the bone with their sharding parents dipping out the second of another round of beer!! He clenched his hands in frustration losing that moment of serenity. "Oh for shards sakes!" he grumbled under his breath and turned to gaze out over the bowl suddenly realizing that not to far away another person also had taken a spot on a boulder. However, this boy looked far more at peace than he did.

"Mmm?" Gyl cracked open a barely-visible eye at the newcomer, propping himself up on his side and resting his head on his hand. He gave Raysan a thoughtful look before smiling his welcome. Gylren opened his mouth to say something, forgetting for a moment exactly why he wore that scarf, but when it popped back into his head, he shut his mouth with an apologetic look. He waved a little before sitting up and focusing his attention on his current rockmate, wondering exactly what it was that had gotten him so flustered. Today was too good a day to be mad, so he'd have to cheer him up somehow. But how would he do that, hmm? It'd be difficult without talking, but Gyl would find a way, like he always did.

Raysan glanced over at the other boy who had seemed like he was about to say something before that smile but then shut his mouth abruptly. Although a smile was on the boy's face he really wasn't sure why the boy was just sitting there and staring at him looking rather apologetic but Raysan was already frustrated and this look was just adding a little more tension across his shoulders and spine. It just seemed a bit odd....Ok...maybe more than than....down right weird. So Raysan did a quick mental check just to confirm that he didn't have a bug on his face or something then brushing away the black strands of hair from his eyes he finally figured he handle the matter whatever it might be, "Hey, whatcha looking at?" he said with a slightly guarded tone and waited for the boy to respond.

Gyl kind of got the feeling that maybe he shouldn't be staring, and he looked over his shoulder at the dragons behind them by way of answer. He also figured that maybe he should give at least an attempt to explain exactly why he hadn't said anything yet. But oblivious Gyl was oblivious, and thus any possible confusion at his silence was completely unnoticed. Maybe he should carry around a little book to write down what he wanted to say in, as that would clear up a lot of confusion and make things much, much easier. Too bad he hadn't though of that sooner, otherwise this would be a much easier situation to negotiate through, rather than doing charades and gestures by way of communication.

Alright....Raysan thought as he stared back at the other boy his eyes starting to narrow just a little feeling like this kid was starting to mock him. "You got a problem with me?" he said with a direct tone that demanded an response. The boy better start coming up with an answer of some sort before this one sided conversation turned into a one sided argument. Raysan really didn't like the silent treatment when in his opinion he'd done nothing to deserve it. It just plain annoyed him. However, some jerks just rolled like that and maybe this guy fit that bill. Needless to say, Raysan wasn't about to just walk off until this guy gave him some sort of response. He was pretty sharding sure that the boy could talk he heard a least one noise from him before got all tight lipped.

Gyl held up his hands in a supplicating gesture with a shake of his head before gesturing to his throat and making a slash through the air, trying his best to tell exactly why he wasn't speaking. His thoughts flashed back to the idea of a notepad, and he honestly wished that he would have had the foresight to actually bring one. He didn't have any writing utensils or anything to write on on him, which wasn't good. It seemed that the other Candidate wasn't too happy, and Gyl really didn't want to get in a fight or anything. That would be bad, especially when he was so newly introduced to the Weyr.

Raysan watched the boy's hands and the gestures towards the throat. Could it be that the boy had a sore throat? Ok. Well that would give some explanation as to why he wasn't answering him right of the bat. Although...the boy looked reasonable healthy at least to him. Well, he wasn't a healer so it wasn't up to him to make judgments on how the body worked.
He scratched his head for a moment and then finally smirked shaking his head, "Alright, so you've got a sore throat. I get it." He leaned back against the stone crossing his arms behind his head and took in a slow breath then started to watch the dragons in the bowl. "Nice day out here." he said absentmindedly not introducing himself at all considering the other boy probably couldn't even return introduction - there wasn't much point at least in his mind.

Sore throat? Uh, hmkay, that'd work. Gyl nodded when Raysan mentioned the weather, smiling as a breeze flowed through the weyrbowl, ruffling his hair with its invisible fingers. The scarf fluttered and was tugged off by the overly playful wind, leaving Gyl to flail at it before grabbing it midair as he jumped-slash-fell off the boulder. This managed to show off Gylren's scar pretty well, however, which was not the intention. He hadn't known that it had become so obviously visible then, but he replaced the scarf with a slight flush, climbing back on to the spot he had previously occupied. Gyl made sure that his scarf was tightly replaced this time, frowning slightly.

Raysan's eyes flashed upward as the scarf fluttered by and even before he bothered to react the other boy was practically leaping with after it. As the boy, fell of the boulder and landed at his feet, Raysan got a pretty good view of what the scarf had been hiding. Mm...so maybe that's what this boy was trying to say before. He wasn't quite sure. The scar looked old and really didn't bother Raysan either way as he looked at it. He chuckled under his breath as the kid scrambled back on to his perch tying the scarf on tightly. Was that actually what the kid was concerned about? People seeing that scar?
"Oh, is that all? So it ain't a sore throat after all?" said Raysan rather lightly as he repositioned himself after the suddenness of the other's mishap. He didn't really care about the scar. Might have been from a bad experience but if you lived to see the next day then it weren't nothing.

Gyl nodded, running a hand through his hair, looking a little abashed. He didn't like showing off the scar, and especially not unintentionally like that. At least the other guy wasn't seemingly prepared to tear his head off anymore, which was something. Gylren was relatively on it today, surprisingly, so he was able to tell at least that much about what Raysan was currently feeling. A Green soared overhead, temporarily distracting Gyl from his rockmate and sending his eyes skyward, a slight slime playing around his lips as he watched the Green. She really was a beautiful dragon, and in the air, she was graceful. Gyl silently wondered who her rider was, as they must be a pretty good person to have Impressed something do beautiful.

Raysan's eyes also caught the glimpse of the dragon above causing a lighter smile to capture his lips even if it were only for a short time. Ah...maybe it did feel good to be at this place rather than trying to figure out the next meal or the next sale. He really doubted he could ever let himself get too lazy but at least for a short time he found that the moment could be a pleasant one. "I betcha in a week that sight will be old news." he muttered as he watched the beast continue on its journey. So many dragons around this place it was going to hard not to be acclimated sooner or later.
He yawned and stretched some considering his rockmate pretty much was the silent type it was almost easy to drift off into his own little world and not be too worried about distraction.
