- ROKKeNROU - WhiteValkyrie Actually lolita is a fashion movement against the sexualisation of female fashion and bringing back the purity back into peoples hearts, not just clothes. You don't really need to be different when wearing lolita since it is not a costume but you still should try to stay well mannered since lolita is not only clothes, it is a fashion movement and fashion also includes how you act and if you don't act like a lolita, you are not a lolita, just a bad person that ruins the good name of the fashion movement. I agreed until the part I underlined. You just contradicted yourself. You don't need to act different but you have to act like a lolita or else you are not a lolita? WAT :I

The Zombie Gigolo It also makes me think of the days I loved Malice Mizer back in junior high (Several years ago) Its my favorite band and also a great inspiration to the start of the fashion. Anyway, I refuse to put on an act and be something I am not just so I can go along with this 'fashion movement'. Just seems like you're trying to fit in with the crowd, like high school...its immature to me. -C'est la lune qui conduit la danse...-
I don't know if you mixed up your words or not, but Malice Mizer wasn't an inspiration to the start of the fashion, when the Lolita style existed long before Malice Mizer even started becoming active as a group. They did boost the popularity of "Visual Kei", (and in more specifically Mana's case, Lolita), but they didn't create the style. But if you meant that it was the inspiration for you to wear the fashion, disregard that note.

Lolita got definations for a certain reason, if you don't meet the "guidelines" you aren't lolita or do you want every slutty acting b***h that wears a frill dresses and bows but still acts bad called lolita (as example Paris Hilton and Lady Gaga did show in full lolita outfits even made by famous brands but that doesn't make them lolita or would you be happy, if females like that act like they do always and give the fashion a bad image with acting like a$$)? No, you don't... Also you can read at all japanese lolita magazines, how you have to act or you don't fit the criterias for the fashion. Lolita is a fashion movement and will always be or nobody would wear it in japan anymore since you wear the cloth style you like for a reason and if you don't like fashion movement, you wouldn't like the dresses since they are the result of the defination of the fashion movement. Besides that, I did talk about, that you don't have to chance your personality and that is not the same as how you act also the topic is about "how to life lolita" and that is it. I am already part of the fashion movement since ~15 years, I know what I talk about.

-...quand le soleil sera couché dans ton âme froide.- Ah, well I remembered reading that Malice Mizer did contribute to the style becoming a fashion (presently, I mean. I know it is clothing of the past, no one really invented the style at least in our time). I know Mana coined the term EGL, but I also read (and watched online) that Malice Mizer did help the fashion get popular. Perhaps I read wrong, and it was just the start of of teens going to Harajuku..I may be getting my information confused. I was wondering if you had any source on the start of Lolita? I ask more so for interest, and a project I'm working on. WhiteValkyrie Lolita got definations for a certain reason, if you don't meet the "guidelines" you aren't lolita or do you want every slutty looking b***h with frill dresses that acts bad called lolitas (as example Paris Hilton and Lady Gaga did show in full lolita outfits but that doesn't make them lolita or would you be happy if females [skimpy living ones] act like they always do and give the fashion a bad image with acting like a$$)? I thought you said you had to be well-mannered to be a lolita, and you are judging people you don't even know and being rude about it all. Funny little paradox here. WhiteValkyrie Lolita is a fashion movement and will always be or nobody would wear it in japan anymore since you wear the cloth style you wear for a reason and if you don't like fashion movement you wouldn't like the dresses since they are the result of the defination of the fashion movement. To you, it is a fashion movement. To others, it is not. Yes, people like the clothes for a reason...maybe because they are cute, pretty and very different from the norm? I don't like this 'fashion movement', but I LOVE the dresses. And not to be rude, but have you gone to Japan and talked to every Lolita on why they wear the clothing? Even if this fashion movement isn't why they like it, I still think girls would wear it because people like me do.

I am already part of the fashion movement since ~15 years, I know what I talk about. Firstly & foremost: I don't care how long you've been wearing lolita. Waving around a timestamp doesn't mean squat to me. I've been in Catholic schools since I was in preschool. Does that give me the authority to go to church and tell others that I must be right because I've been a Catholic longer than they have? I've been on Gaia for over 5 years. Does that mean I must know about this place more than every single user that happened to have joined later than me? I guess I do, 'cause I've been involved for ~x years. :/
Secondly - Again, if you are a slutty b***h but conform to how one dresses lolita... you kinda are a lolita. A slutty b***h, yes, but still a lolita. Why? Lolita = clothes. Individuals give the clothes meaning, but without those projected meanings they are simply pieces of cloth. YOU think this is a fashion movement because to YOU it is a fashion movement. Some may agree with you, as that is what they, too, see in the clothes. Some see it as a lifestyle. Some as a hobby. Some just like it because it is unusual. Some wear it because it makes them feel pretty. Some because it is cute. Some because it is elegant. Some simply find it nothing more than a fun thing to go out in on the weekend.

I don't have any direct links in my bookmarks, but I have seen scans and translations from this one magazine that showed the start-up of the style. If you're doing a project, try googling it up and hopefully you'll find the link with the translated timeline. But other than that, there's other facts pointing to it, e.x. being that Baby, the Stars Shine Bright has been open since I believe 1988. Angelic Pretty was open before that in the 1979.

Yes, there are some people who are into things like Burlesque, or had a side thing as a fetish model, but had that completely separate from the style itself. The people I've seen, anyways.

I was one of the very first persons who did wear the lolita style as daily clothing and I think I know almost everybody here that is a lolita, special since I organise many of the lolita meetings in osaka since ages. - ROKKeNROU - Firstly & foremost: I don't care how long you've been wearing lolita. Some wear it because it makes them feel pretty. Some because it is cute. Some because it is elegant. Some simply find it nothing more than a fun thing to go out in on the weekend. You are very wrong since clothes are not lolita but a person is lolita or do you want to tell me that a person is lolita just because she wears something that can be used for a lolita outfit even if the rest doesn't fit? Saying something like that is like saying every black shirt is emo. That is what makes the difference between the words clothing and fashion. Clothing styles are specific defination of how something looks, fashion is about how you arrange your appearance. As example a basic blouse with ruffles is something that can be used for lolita outfits but that doesn't makes it lolita. However, people choose clothes depending on their personality, so if you wear the lolita fashion you have reasons behind it why you like/wear it and a fashion movement is mainly just wearing something specific for a reason. With the lenght and shape of fashion you show people what you think or what you want even if you don't know it. So as example the most people wear lolita for the main reason because it is feminime and not slutty like the common fashion these days, a slutty person wouldn't wear it but a person that has something against being like that. That is exactly what it makes something a fashion movement.
