Oh my, you're right. Sorry about that, I shouldn't post anything when I'm tired >_<
This happens all the time when I haven't slept for days.

In other news, here's something I've always wondered: Why do some people spell it "magic" and others spell it "magick"?

and don't forget 'magik'

basically, magic and magick are real words (according to wikipedia), magic describing in simplest sense any sort of supernatural ability or what have you, magick being any act designed to cause intentional change.

I quote:
Magick is not capable of producing "miracles" or violating the physical laws of the universe (e.g., it cannot cause a solar eclipse), although "it is theoretically possible to cause in any object any change of which that object is capable by nature".

now, as we all know normal Magic has at least sixty seven and a third billion different incarnations and all of these systems work differently if only in what word makes your brain explode, so the best way to describe it is that Magick is a form of Magic with very restricted potential in relation to other systems where, for instance, very very powerful Sith lords (starwars) can and have caused stars to collapse with nothing more than their mind. Magick is more about controlling the natural way of things, than forcing them to do weird or even just extreme things.

But then, we are by in large talking about people who make and run RPs, who probably have a statistic of being about 16 years old, meaning they probably just say Magick/Magik to sound different.

The main thing that matters is that in setting guidelines for magic, however broad or tight, the magic should a) not be able to do anything the DM doesn't want it to do and b) seem realistic, which should be achieved by keeping its potential within the bounds of a power source. If internal energy such as life-force or qi or mana fuels magic, it can't be as powerful than if it is fuelled by cosmic energy, but it would be much less limited than if the magic was bestowed by a deity or dictated by science. Sorry if that's a random time to say it but I figured I'd put in another 2 cents do this discussion.

I prefer not to separate magic and magick, mostly because magick looks really odd and is used by FF12.

It is a roleplay.. featuring magic... anything can happen, it doesn't have to abide by our natural laws...

Many people make this mistake when creating roleplays and I feel the need to point it out. Magic is not an excuse to make completely impossible things happen. Even in a classical setting magic does not break the law of physics that energy cannot be created or destroyed, and thus it preserves the basic laws of nature while appearing to break them.

Not all the time. In this one "world," the term magic is used when something logically impossible is achieved.

"Magic is a miracle other than Magecraft, the final achievement of a magus, the ability to make possible something that is impossible to realize in the current era. If it is possible to realize "magic" regardless of time and fund, then the "result" isn't magic."

Such as the ability to materialize matter from nothing (Other means do not count), to completely destroy matter, etc.
The setting does not provide an accurate and clear description on HOW they do it, but they still can. And I don't think the storyline has suffered from it.

maybe it would be more appropriate to say magic Should not be used as an excuse to do the utterly impossible
