Physical Information Firelizards (also known as "flits" or "flitts") average around 2 feet from nose to tail, although size varies depending on coloration (golds are the largest with greens being the smallest). They have two stomachs; one for digesting food, and one for processing firestone which permits the firelizards to produce flame. They have multifaceted eyes that change color depending on the dragon's mood:
Blue and/or Green: Content or happy. Red and Orange: Anger, agitation. Red and Yellow: Battle / fighting. Red: Hungry Yellow: Fear, worry. Purple: Lustful, preparing to rise to mate. White: Sense of danger. Grey: In pain, emotional or physical.

Colors Firelizards are similar to dragons, with the notable difference color greatly effects intelligence and memory. Their size, too, depends on their color, as does gender.
Also special from dragons, firelizards of any color will Impress to anyone, as long as they are the first person to feed and care for them. Firelizards do not go between if the person they are Impressed to dies, and may become rogue or seek out a new handler.
Green - The smallest of all firelizards. All greens are female, and unlike their dragon cousins, they are also fertile. However, a green tends to forget where she laid her clutch, if not forget about the clutch entirely.
Blue - The fourth largest firelizard. All blues are male. They are slightly more intelligent than greens.
Brown - The third largest firelizard. All browns are male. They are slightly more intelligent than greens or blues.
Bronze - The second largest firelizard. All bronzes are male. Their intelligence is second only to a gold.
Gold - The largest and most intelligent firelizards. All golds are female and fertile. Unlike greens, a gold will not only remember her clutch, but fiercely protect it from predators.

Impression Firelizards do not Impress as dragons do. For firelizards it is quite often the person closest to them who has food and offers it to the newborn and is almost a reflexive, instinctive thing.
When a firelizard Impresses, they can give their owner hints as to their intentions or thoughts through sounds and limited telepathic signals of images or sounds. Because they cannot 'speak', they do not come with names. The person who the firelizard Impresses to provides a name much in the way we would give our pets a name. Generally, firelizards names never end in "th" as this is considered special for dragons, however the enthused person might use a "th" ending name.
A firelizard does not go between if their owner dies; they will either become "wild" or, more commonly, seek out a new one.
Firelizards, unlike dragons, are not a solo bonding. A person (even a rider) can have any number of firelizards at any given time.

Psychic Abilities and Telepathy Despite their relatively low intelligence, firelizards communicate through a form of weak telepathy. They will send images and feelings to their owners, each other, whers or dragons. They can not "speak", but some argue firelizards can learn to recognize and understand words, not unlike the more intelligent breeds of parrot in our world.
Firelizards can teleport between, and it takes them eight seconds to go anywhere in the world (see next post).

Between Between (always written in italics) is a dimension through which dragons, watch-whers and fire lizards travel during the process of teleportation, referred to as "going between". If the firelizard does not have a clear picture of its destination in mind, it is possible for it to become permanently lost in this dimension. Firelizards do not suicide between if their handler dies, but may do so if mortally wounded.
Between is universally described as a place of nothingness. Fire lizards take eight seconds to teleport anywhere on the planet.
Between is characterized by extreme cold (far below zero yet not as cold as outer space) and induces near-total sensory deprivation in humans who travel through it on dragonback. There is no breathable air between, and riders who make exceptionally long journeys suffer the effects of oxygen deprivation. Firelizards can hold their breath for much longer than humans without ill effects.
Firelizards will deliberately go between to destroy any Thread which they come in contact with, as the extreme cold causes it to freeze almost instantly, whereupon it can be safely brushed off.
Firelizards can not travel between times.

Mating and Reproduction Both gold and green firelizards rise, and both are capable of laying eggs after mating. Mating flights are miniature version of dragons, the difference being the firelizard mating does not broadcast to the handlers or people near them and has no effect on anyone but the firelizards themselves beyond perhaps becoming a spectacle.
It is a rare, but possible, for a green clutch to have anything but green, blue and brown eggs. They will usually forget a clutch, or at least it's location, after they have laid it.
Golds, on the other hand, will protect their clutch. Particularly aggressive golds may even strike their handlers if they get too near. A gold will lay eggs of every color.

Life Span Firelizards lifespans allude most people, as they tend to outlive those who would bother studying them. They are estimated to live about one hundred turns, barring any fatal injury or accidents. A Wher may go through multiple handlers in it's life time.
Egg Stage
Eggs are small enough to be carried around. They spend just a single sevenday hardening and will hatch shortly after.
Youngster ("Baby"); 1-2 Months
Firelizards grow faster than whers or dragons. By two months, they have reached their full size.
Adulthood; 2+ months
The final stage. Firelizards have reached their full size and ability.
