i'm catholic, but i spent my whole life being taught by my daddy what to beleive. he was raised part catholic part methodist. i've been baptized, confirmed, and had communion. but for the most part i haven't gone to church. like i said my dad has led me.

don't think i'm not religous though, i definatly am as spiritual as the next girl. i usually have religon studies and discussions with my daddy but since hes been gone i decided to join a catholic guild here on gaia so i don't miss out on anything and discuss as if i were with him.

unfortunatly i found out why my dad didn't want me to go to church. he was sheltering me from the intolerant and false superiority of the catholic church and it's beleifs. in these forums they said stuff like "protestant religons aren't legitimate" "catholics are on the right path" and "protestant religons should rejoin the catholic church". my religon is full of hypocrates! i feel so ashamed of my religon. it dosen't seem very christian to still be complaining about someone disagreeing hundreds of years ago. whatever happened to acceptance? we don't even know who is right or wrong within christianity. now i know why when we talked about religons he was always like "now they have the right idea" and stuff like that. i accually want to thank him for not raising me a true catholic, and teaching me christianity with a buddhist attitude. sheltering me from the shameful church politics.

for the record i disagree with all of those stetements i quoted. we don't know who is right or wrong, only god does. and hes not very open about it wink but i am highly accepting of my sister branches of christinity, and thats where i don't seem to fit in. it's their choice and it shouldn't be anyone elses place to try and change another worshipper.

but now i'm dissapointed. i feel like i just found out santa isn't real (sorry if i ruined it for you). i think i want to convert now, and accually be more active in whatever religon i turn to. i want to find something i can more actively fallow and beleive in.

i don't want to stray too far from catholicism. like i don't really want to throw all the customs i've learned and fallowed out the window, i just want to forget catholic politics.

i have a friend who said i should become a quaker ^_^
that is sounding pretty good right now.

i was thinking of joining the church of england, going anglican, but i don't know any of the politics. all i know is that they have similar customs.

if you have any advice, religons you think i would enjoy, info on the anglican church please pm me of e-mail me at kunoichi.chic@gmail.com

i don't know if i'll be coming back to this guild or not, i check my e-mail more often then i go on gaia.

God bless you all!

Moved to 'Advice' forum.

For the record, the Catholic Church isn't the only denomination that engages in that sort of behavior. I've seen plenty of Protestants calling Catholics pagans (and worse). I know that two wrongs don't make a right, as they say, but at least it does put the whole thing in a bit more perspective. The two groups (although one can hardly call Protestantism a 'group' given how fractitious it is) have been sniping at one another for centuries. Disparaging one's fellow Christians is hardly just a Catholic pass time.

Additionally, when you do see traditionalist Catholics arguing that Protestants aren't legitimate, simply direct them to the text of the Second Vatican Council (specifically The Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, Lumen Gentium, Chapter II). That ought to shut them up.

I dont know i would say that even some christians do it too. the pastor at my moms church( i changed churches from my moms) used to do that sort of stuff like "Catholics arent going to heaven" " pegans are satanista" and stuff like that saying that the only way to get to heaven is if you a christian. and i dont believe that i think that if you have taken Jesus as your lord and savior and stuff like that, that you are going to go to heaven.

Oh, don't worry. This is not specific of the Catholic church. There are quite a few other denominations who do this. Acceptance seems to the a trait that is, for the most part, lacking in the Christian church.

Hey! welcome to the club! Seriously though, christianity has been lacking of love for a long time.

Welcome to why I dislike denominations. It's nothing but politics, judging and all-around un-christian-like behavior.

convert.... out of your denomination or your religion?

I would suggest non-denominational. That's basically not having any traditions that aren't specifically laid out in the Bible (communion, baptism..). Also, dogma that is not laid out specifically in the bible is highly suspect.

Of course, I'm rather biased, considering my denomination (or lack thereof)
