metal gear solid, peacewalker
id like to start this review by saying im not a huge metal gear fan, im i huge fan of the whole stealth genre though and metal gear solid twin snakes was my second outing in to the world of stealth-em-ups ( my first being the vastly underrated splinter cell) but needless to say i enjoyed my time in Snake's world of tactical espoinage.

however as much as i enjoyed the game i never really took to the franchise and left metal gear pretty much alone untill recently, a hunting buddy of mine (a big metal gear fan) asked me to download the game for him (ill put the site on at the end) and send it to him, at first i was hesitant but decided to do it anyway.

after downloading i tried to get it to work on my psp, unfortunately this took a while is i needed the firmware upgrade to play it but after much hassle i managed to give it a go.

the first thing that struck me was the controls, normally in a psp game (or most games) the X button is used to confirm and the O is used to cancel, however this is not the case for MGS razz W after realising this i managed to start playing the game proper.

once in the game the controls took some getting used to after monster hunter, the left pad was used for actions such as ducking or hiding against objects and weapon selection (the weapon selection was much like the inventory on MH with [] and O moving you left and right when the button is held) camera controls were assigned to the XO[]^ buttons with L &R acting as aim and fire respectively.

the demo is rather short but still has the stealth aspect down as well as ever, stunning a soldier and routing through his pockets was still as fun as it was so many years ago, and hiding from guards is still as nevre wrecking as ever.

and if you have a friend with a psp you can do a co-op mode but i dont so i cant review it right now

all in all its shaping up to be a good game and hopefully we'll get and english language version soon enough

undead knights
ok, another week and another japanese game to review, this week the rather unique zombie game Undead Knights from those wonderful people at tecmo, the makers of Dead Or Alive Series and Ninja Gaiden

the first unique thing for a tecmo game is there are no boobies, the only female character is wrapped up rather than having her jublies on display for the world to see, a la Dead or Alive.
the second unique thing is the zombies, where as in most games the zombies are ineffectual bad guys noming at your skull in this game they help you, yes thats right, you are the zombie overlord, turning humans into your mindless brain scoffing slaves.

much like games like pikmin and overlord these zombies are used to attack enemies, activate traps and even open gates and can be used as bridges, they can even be picked up and throw at enemies or slamed into the ground knocking all nearby enemies over, however because zombies are made of rotting flesh they only have a limited lifespan, meaning you need to repenish your undead minions at every opportunity.

the story is pretty basic, evil king kills you, even evilier guy brings you back, you go crazy rampage nuts on everything with a pulse, zombies eat people, everyone laughs and we all have tea, although its an interestin premise having you starting the zombie apocalypes rather than having to prevent it and the use of zombies seems to be limitless in possiblities.

overall i enjoyed it and would definatly recomend the demo to anyone who fancy taking charge of a zombie army

ASSASSINS CREED 2

ubisoft's follow up to the excellent assassin's creed and for as much as things change they stay the same

the game sees you taking on the role of desmond once again this time in the embodyment of an italian ancestor by the name of ezio
once again trying to thwart abstergo and the knights templar for obtaining the pieces of eden (if you have no idea what im on about because you didnt play the first game dont worry,
they give you a quick recap)

for those of you who have played it before it wont take you long to get back in to the swing of assassination, and the new array of
weapons will make your job so much easier in some cases and much more fun in others.

little else has changed gameplay wise, the controls are exactly the same and taking to the blade was effortless as always
ubisoft have really gone to town with the assassination system too, introducing new ways of using the blades and disapearing into anonimity

my only major gripe is with the memory system, not being able to replay my favourite missions to try and find another way of doing it
was always my favourite bit in the original and it can be a little repeatative at times but if you enjoyed the first one you'll enjoy the second one

there's also one bit that will have you ROTFLYAO for sure, but ill let you find it yourself

all in all its a great game and number 3 is going to have to try hard to beat it
