For someone who never really aced anything at school, when it came to explaining how things worked he was pretty good. He was better in his mother tongue, obviously, but being with Emma had improved his English by miles, so his voice was steady and confident while explaining the technique of surfing.
After demonstrating a couple of times how to swim with the board, and then finally mount it, he paddled back to Emma with the board and looked at her with an encouraging smile.
"Just try getting on it and paddling for now, si?" he said, standing at the top of her board and holding it in place so it couldn't take off anywhere.
"I'll keep hold of it so it doesnt move while you get on and then you can start to move like this," he carried on, making the small paddling motion with his hands.
