Guilds! So expensive!

Why are the Guilds so popular? And, they cost sooo much. A fortune. Well, in fact, I'm very unpopular... I'd spend that gold for NOTHING if I never get members... GUYS CLANS ARE JUST THE SAME BUT FREE WHY BOTHER PAYING FOR GUILDS WITH LOTS OF GOLD? There is really no point.
