When broken glass floats is the memoirs of Chanrithy Him who spent her childhood trying to survive the genocide in Cambodia during the Vietnam war. It is a beautiful book that makes just about any hardship you're going through seem bearable. Trust me.
I first started reading it when I was sick for 2 and a half weeks with a intestinal virus. all I could eat was toast, white rice, broth and eventually boiled chicken. all pretty bland stuff. When you are reading about someone who is starving from lack of food and is willing to each raw fish heads that were thrown out by her captors to survive... makes that diet seem like a feast.
This is kind of along the same lines as Anne Franks diary, except it's not a diary and it has a happy-ish ending. She lives. It's definatly worth a read.
