A wonderful book by Mia Mask.

If you haven't read I recomend it as well. I recomended it to a man who asked where are all the black females in action movies? Again the question goes "is there really a lack? Have people really looked?". The book shows all the black females in action movies and on the screen.

You can discuss it and talk about if you feel if there is a lack of females in action movies? or is there any black female action movie you personally love.

Like I love strange days with angela basset and grace jones in conan the barbarian and the james bond film. thats how I fell in love with those two females.

There's a lack. However again it's the culture. Black women are usually for comedic sassy roles. I mean the only action stars I would say we have is probably Jada, and Halle. Both are better at drama IMPO. I mean over in the ED forum they were discussion about the upcoming Avatar: The last Airbender movie and why the casting director had to pick a damn near ALL-White cast. Save of course the fire nation which are of course mostly dark skinned actors. (Not black mind you just dark skinned)

I wish Jada or Regina could get half the action roles that ugly Jolie could have.

I dont think there is a lack. Black women aren't just picked for comedic sassy roles. I believe that people just dont pay attention when there are african american action films out. Like I mentioned the movie strange days with angela basset and people barely know that movie. Plus whoopie goldberg was in a few and people forget that the first movies of grace jones and eartha kitt were action films and the many actresses in this book here were action roles. Dont forget the action Tv shows like power rangers had black action stars and many other tv shows had them to. but again people dont look. It goes way beyond halle and Jada.

I admit this year you didnt see it now more than you see back then. But thats I think if we had the right actress for it we could do it. Like if the Vixen movie were to come out. I couldn't see Jada doing it. Maybe regina or someone new.

But just because one year had a lack of usage of black action female action stars doesn't mean there's a lack of them.

Plus besides on the avatar project. People have to realize that cartoon was based on a alternate universe of japan or something. So of course there are no blacks just darkskin people. So their going to hire a cast of tanned or dark skin actors.

Well you're somewhat right plus the fact that "Black" movies and "White" movies are marketed differently. Read some of Spike Lee books it show you the graphs and whatnot.

No looking at the stats there's a lack and even when we do get parts in action, drama, or non comedy movies or TV show it's supporting cast at best.

Like Power Rangers: Until the whole Green/White ranger saga yeah they were pretty equal in terms of screen time, powers, and whatnot. However shortly after when Tommy comes in it's then unbalance. Seriously the White Ranger becomes the unquestionable leader W/ cooler Zord, and a freakin' talking sword.

Let's not kid ourselves, there is a discrepancy in the acting world. For starters, white women get anykind of role and black women have to get the same kind of role. Try to get into the acting business, it's not all peaches and roses.

There are those who have defied the odd's and taken different roles.Even main characterroles. Iadmit it has not been given often as to white women. But it has been given to way more then people think. ((Thus the book.))

Well how many Summer Blockbusters feature Blacks in a starring role? Hell even when Will Smith gets a 4th of July movie he is hardly paired with a Black woman. It's not just BET it's TV and movies period. While I'll admit we have kind of made some strides from playing Mammies and house maids still.

What was the point of Jennifer Hudson role in Sex and the City? From my POV it was just a case of tokenism.

I never seen any episode of sex and the city. I personally dont know how or why that show lasted as long as it did. But if Jennifer hudson was on it. Tokenism or otherwise. It got her seen on a very popular show. which will be able to hopefully expand her career.

about will smith. He was always paired with a black female. He had white women his character interacted with maybe kissed but was never paired up with. I think hitch and Seven Pounds were the only non black characters his character hooked up with and both were spanish women.

There are alot of summer movies staring blacks in the main character roles. Was it more than in the 70's, 80's or 90's no. But there were still alot. Especially with the tyler perry movies now. On Tv I could name over twenty shows with black female main characters. It's what you watch. Remember the futuristic show 2424((Or 2525)) and the misty knight series show. These had black female main characters. On HBO they had the spawn, and black falcon cartoons which featured every black female actresses/actors. Again not alot of people remember or watched this stuff.

No she was just in the movie and nah it didn't do much for her career because she didn't have a role at all. It was almost a Mammy role.

I don't watch much TV as I don't like care of all these mindless, crude, and messed up reality shows which I hope you aren't counting. I'm aware of most of the Black shows still on but most of them are sitcoms.

No Will smith is hardly paired with a Black chick nowadays. Not since ID4 says I. Trust me I was a Will Smith fangirl. Since Wild Wild West onward he has been paired with non-Black woman. I think Ali was the one of the few summer movies in which he at least had some Black women including irl wife Jada.

But all his robot/ ET films he is usually with a white chick. Trust me.

I dont watch the reality tv shows. ((Unless you count America's next top model)). But I notice that everything I did watch never got the popularity it deserved and I still dont know why not. It puzzles me. Like how christiana agulera isnt more popular than brittney spears puzzles me. But I thought shows like The misty knight series was great. Or the chronicles of lesty was good. Black shows decently written that didnt last long. But every time I mention them people just look at me like I'm crazy. Except my cousins who watched it with me.

There was also City of Angels which was about an all black hospital it was so wonderful. It was canned in mid season though. scream

Yes Selma Hayek is Spanish. I'm pretty sure there weren't any Black women in MIB II, and I am Legend kind of doesn't count since everyone is "dead" so it's just him and that dog for an hour or so but yeah he was married to a sister (also his real life daughter in it) but they get smashed by the infected. (See the flashbacks)

So really he is either not paired with anyone or he rarely pairs up with a Sister. Like in the lastest Hancock. (cringes) In which he loses his super powers over a white women who he just so happens to be in love with.

It's almost the same with Jada's little show. She's was married to a white guy but he died and now she with another white guy. Any time there is a Black guy on the show they are pretty egotist or preppy.

Oh Yeah I remember that show city of angels. I always wondered what happened to it.

LOL. Hancock ruined will smith for alot of black women. But hancock does not loose his powers over a white woman. That is just the side affect of staying with the one you got paired with. Hancock was paired with his yes white woman by the other gods. So of course there is a natural attraction there. But as she explained he always loved to save the world more than being with her. thats why he left her.
